Referring now to Figure 9 there is disclosed another modification of this invention wherein the holder I 3c is provided with clamping arms I9c which are reversed from the clamping arms I9. In other words the clamping arms I9c extend over the top of the shield I IIc. The rear end of the holder I3c includes a base 2'I engaging over the back of the handle II c and secured thereto by a fastening means 28.

In the use and operation of this device, the paring knife may be used in the normal manner for peeling onions or other vegetables and where such vegetables are juicy the shield I4 may be secured to the back of the knife, the clip I8 being slipped over the forward end of the handle II so as to support the holder I3 and the shield I4 along the back of the knife blade l2 with ltheshield disposed in forwardly divergent relation to the edge of the back of the knife, as shown in Figure 2. What I claim is: l. As an article of manufacture an attachment for a knife havinga handle and a blade, said attachment comprising an absorbent Vshield having substantial length and width, means secured to said shield and extending around the end thereof for supporting said shield lengthwise of and free from said blade, and a split band adapted to be disposed about thehandle, said means being pivotall'y secured to said band, whereby said shield may be adjusted from an operative position lengthwise of said blade to' an inoperative position rearwardly of said blade. I

As an article of manufacture an attachment for a knife having a handle and a blade, said attachment comprising an absorbent shield having substantial length and width, means secured to said shield and extending around the end thereof for supporting said shield lengthwise of and free from said blade, said means including forwardly divergent clamping bars, said bars being operatively connected to the handle of the knife.

As an article of manufacture, an attachment for a knife having a handle and a blade, said attachment comprising a shield comprised of naturalsponge having substantial length and width, means secured to said shield and extending around an end thereof for supporting said shield lengthwise of but spaced from said blade, and'means connecting said last mentioned means to the handle of the knife.

As van article of manufacture, an attachment for a knife having a handle and a blade, saidattachment comprising a shield comprised of sponge rubber having substantial length and width, means secured to said shield and extending around an end thereof for supporting said shield lengthwise of but spaced from said blade, and means connecting said last mentioned means to the handle of the knife.

As an article of manufacture, an attachment for a knife having a handle and a blade, said attachment comprising an absorbent shield 'havingsubstantial length and width, means secured.- to said lshield for supporting said shield lengthwise of and free from said blade, said means beingfoperatvely connected to the handle of the knife.
