ST-BLOT'I'ER. I
Patented. @ct. il, rails.
Application filed February 25, 1918. Serial No. 219,023.
To all whom it may concern:
.Be it known that l, HARLAND W. CARD- wnLL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Texarkana, in the county of Bowie and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wrist- Blotters; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object toprovide an extremely simple and inexpensive, yet a highly eficient and durable blotter to be attached to the wrist of the user so as to be always accessible for use; and with this object in view, a further aim is to provide a novel construction whereby the blot termay be supported in a horizontal position by a wristband.
With the foregoing general object in view, the invention resides in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described and claimed, and shown in the accompanying drawing wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the blotter in use;
til
front edge to the Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the invention detached;
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view;
Fig. l is a longitudinal section on the plane of the line 4-4. of Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 is a transverse section on the plane of the line 5-5 of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the metal strip of the wrist band and the lateral fingerkof this strip which supports the blotter ac i In the drawing above briefly described, the numeral 1 designates a suitably shaped blotter back (preferably thou h not necessarily forms of leather. ioined at its rear edge of the blotter back 1 at the central portionof the latter, is a wrist strap 2 which is rendered adjustable in size by any suitable means 3 and rovided with a snap fastener or the like l for ease of application and removal.
A lining 5 of fabric or any other suitable material isprovided for the lower side of the blotter back 1, and the edges of the latter are preferably turned around the edges of said lining and stitched as shown at 6. A portion of the lining extends over the central portion of the strap 2 as seen at 7 and is stitched around its edges thereto. a
curved strip 8 of metal or any other suitable comparatively rigid material is interposed between the portion 7 of the linin andthe strap 2, whereby to form a curved seat for the users wrist. A rigid finger 9 extends forwardly from the front edge of and is located between the linthe strip 8 ing 5 and the backing 1, thus horizontally supporting said backing and maintaining it at all times in proper position for immediate use. The parts 8 and 9 are preferably cut from a single piece of sheet metal and together form a If-shaped body, the head of the 'l' constituting the strip 8 and the shank thereof forming the finger 9.
Any preferred means may be employed for holding the blotter 10 in place, but I will in most cases provide pockets 11 at the corners of the blotter back 1 for this purpose.
In use, the strap 2 is adjusted to the proper length I and fastened around the users wrist as shown clearly in Fig. 1, the blotter then underlying the posterior portion of the hand. Whenever it is necessary to use the blotter, it is immediately accessible and may be quickly and easily manipulated.
Since probably the best results are obtained from the several details shown and described, these details are preferably employed, but within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous minor changes may well be made.
I claim:
1. A wrist blotter comprising a blotter back, a strap for passage around the users wrist, said strap being joined at its front edge to the rear edge of said blotter back at the intermediate secured against the strap to form a seat for the wrist, and a substantially rigid finger joined to said strip and extending forwardly therefrom, said finger being secured intermediate portion of the latter a lining portion of the latter, a a. curved strip of substantially rigid material dil extending over a curved strip of substantially rigid mateemme and secured to said lower strep is i slde of said back, said hnlng also extending over the adjacent portion of said strap,
in a horizontal position when. the
Secured around the users Wrist.
In testimony whereof it have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HARLAND W. CARDWELL m l interposed between said strap and the portlon of said lin ng secured thereto, and
a rigid lateral finger extendin from said Witnesses: strip and positioned between said back and R. L me,
said lining whereby to support the device J. S. GRAY.
