This invention relates to new and useful im-i provements and structural refinements in hold-f ers for toilet paper, more particularly, holders for rolls of toilet paper, and the principal object of the invention is to eliminate the waste of paper which usually occurs when conventional holdersare employed, this object being achieved by pro viding a holder which permits only one or two sheets of paper to be removed from the roll at" one time and which prevents the roll of paper as a whole to be removed from the holder.

An important featureof the invention therefore resides in the provision of means for preventing the rotation of the roll of paper on the holder,

whereby only a predetermined length of paper may be unwound from the roll at one time.

Another feature of the invention resides in the provision of means for locking the holder so that a roll of paper thereon cannot be removed, these locking means being concealed by the roll of paper until such time as the roll is completely unwound and used, at which time the holder may be unlocked so that the supply of paper may be replenished.

Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the-invention consists of a toilet paper holder designated generally by the reference character ID, the same embodying in its construction a substantially rectangular frame'il2 consisting of a stationary, angulated strap or member l4 and a movable, angulated strap or member [6.

'The free end portions 24, 26 of the respective members I4, I6 are receivable in opposite ends of a roll of toilet paper 28, and it will be noted that before this roll is applied to the holder, it is compressed so that the central opening therein is substantially v elliptical as indicated at 30, the elongated cross section of the member portions 24, 26 being of such a size that when said mem-j ber portions are inserted in the elliptical opening, the roll 28 is prevented from rotating, so that only a predetermined length of paper, possibly one or two sheets, may be unwound from the roll at one time.

The free endportion 24 of the stationary member I4 is provided with a catch 32 consisting of a pair of spaced, wedge-shaped elements. Moreover, a tongue 34 is provided at the free end portion 26 of the movable member Hi, the tongue 34 terminating in a relatively wide head 36 defining a pair of wings 38 which are engageable with the aforementioned elements 32. v As is indicated in Figure 1, the movable member It may be opened as indicated at 40 to a position shown by the phantom lines 42, so as to facilitate application of a roll of paper to the holder by inserting the end portions 24, 26 of the members l4, l6 into the opening 30 of the roll. Thereupon, the, holder may be closed by simply swinging the member l6 toward the member l4, during'which'. action the wings 38 will engage the wedge-shaped elements 32,.it being understood that the mem ber I6 is sufficiently resilient to permit the por-- tion 26 thereof to be swung outwardly until such time as the head 38 of the tongue 34 passes the elements 32 and springs back against the-front surface of the portion 24 of the member l4, substantially as shown. In this position the end portions 24, 26 of the respective members I4, IE will be securely locked together by the engagement of the Wings 38 with the edges 44 of the elements 32, and what is more important, the entire lock mechanism will be concealed within the roll 28 sof' to effect un -j that the holder cannot be unlocked authorized removal of the roll.

It will be understood from the foregoing that the spring 54 urges the pin 46 and the finger piece 50 in the direction of the arrow 56, that is, toward the tongue 34,, this being so arranged that the locking pin 46,. under the influence of the spring 54, extends over the head 36 of the tongue 34 and prevents the tongue to be sprung outwardly" out of engagement with the catch elements ,32.v

However, after the r011 of paper is completely unwound or used, the locking mechanismsbecomes immediately exposed, so that by simply be retracted so that the tongue 34 maybe disen gaged from the catch element 32 and the holder unlocked to facilitate replenishing the paper PP Y- In the event that the relief paper 28 is wound upon'the usual, tubular core 58, such a core. may be torn or otherwise opened after the paper .is used, so that access may be. had to the locking mechanism.

Finally, as an additional precaution against tampering, it is to be noted that an angle bracket or guard 60 isv secured to the tongue 34 adjacent the head 36 of the latter, so that a screw driver, or the like, cannot be inserted into'the roll'of paper for the purpose of retracting the pin 45 and opening the locking means.

'When the device is being locked, the end edge 62 or: the head 36 of the tongue 34 engages and depresses the pin 46, so that the. pin is automatically retracted during the locking operation, and, is subsequently returned to its projected, locked position by the spring 54.

While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes, in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spiritand scope of the invention as, claimed.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

In a. toilet paper holder, the combination of aframe comprising a stationaryangul'ated member secured to supporting structure and having a free end portion receivable in one end of a toilet paper roll, a movable angulated member hingedly connected to said stationary member and having a free end. portion receivable in the other end of the roll, a locking tongue at the free end. of said movable member and a catch on .the free end portion of said stationary member, said tongue being engageable. withisaid catch, means'for posi tivelv latching said tongue-in engagement with said catch, and a guard on said tongue adjacent the free end of said movable. member and positioned in alignment with said means for positively latching said tonguewith said catch, said tongue and said guard being disposed centrally and. between the ends of a paper roll positioned inthe holder.

2. In a toilet paper holder, the combination of a frame comprising a stationary angulated member secured to supporting structure and having a free end portion receivable in one end of a toilet paper roll, a movable angulated member hingedly connected to said stationary member and having a free end portion receivable in the other end of the roll, a locking tongue at the free end of said movable member and a catch on'the "free end portion of said stationary member, said tongue being 'engageable with said catch, means for positively latching said tongue in engagement with saidcatch, and a guard on said tongue adjacent the free end of said movable member and positioned inalignment with said means :for positively latchingsaid tongue with said catch, said lastmentioned means including a spring-pressed locking pin mounted on said stationary member adjacent said catch, said pin being engageable with said tongue whereby said .tongue is maintained in engagement with said catch, saidtongue and said guard. being disposed centrally and be tween. the ends of a paper roll positioned in the holderand said guard'having a, portionadjacent to said pin whereby the pin will be protected from tampering.

In a toilet paper holder, thencombination of. a frame comprising a stationary angulated member secured to supporting structure and having a free. end portion receivable in one end of a toilet paper roll, a movable angulat-ed member hingedly connected to said stationary member and having a free end portion receivable'in the other end of the roll, a. locking tongue at the free with said catch, a guide on said. tongue adjacent the free end of said movable. member and posi-. tioned in alignment with said means for. positively latching said tongue with. saidlcatch, a U-shaped bracket secured to the front surdace of the. free end portion of thestationary member, said lastmentioned means including a spring-pressed locking' pin slidably mounted through. said U-shaped bracket on the stationary member. andv adjacent said catch, said pin being .engageable with said tongue whereby said tongue is. main-.-. tained in engagement with said catch, said tongue. and said guard being disposed centrally and icetween the ends of a paper roll positioned in the holder, and. said guard having a portion adjacent to said pin whereby the pin will be protected.
