Description
NOW 27, 1951 L. J'. MGELROY POSTAGE STAMP CONTAINER Filed May 15, 1.9448
. IN VEN TOR. 70 cf j@ 7l/EQ?" Patented Nov. 27, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE POSTAGE STAMP CONTAINER Leo J. McElroy, New York, N. Y.
Application May 15, 1948, Serial No. 27,160
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a postage stamp box or container.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a container for postage stamps which is of such size as to receive the ordinary stamp booklet which is purchased at the post ofce and wherein there is provided a straight edge member which is adjustable along the interior of the box to a location above the perforations of stamps so that the stamps can be easily and properly severed from the stamp book.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a stamp book container with a straight edge for eiecting the easy removal of the stamps from the book which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, compact, the slide easily adjusted and eiicient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the container with the cover closed upon the bottom part.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the container opened up and With the straight edge positioned to have the stamp taken from the book and to serve as an edge over which the stamp may be torn.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken at a similar location to Fig. 2 but of the modied form shown in Fig. 3.
Referring now to the gures, I represents a bottom part to which there is connected a top cover II by a hinge pin I2 extending respectively through hinge projections I3 and I4 on the respective bottom and top parts. The cover is retained over the bottom part I0 by a depression I5 in the cover matching with a depression I6 on the bottom part. The bottom and cover parts are of such size as to receive a small stamp album I'I in which are arranged sets of stamps IB. 'I'hese sets have perforations I8 to permit the easy separation of one stamp from the other.
According to the modication shown in Figs. 3 and 4, there is provided a straight edge slide I9 on the hinge pin I2. This slide has a sleeve portion 20 which surrounds the hinge pin and is adjustable along the same. The slide has a straight edge 2| over which the stamps can be torn when the straight edge is adjusted to the line of perforations separating the rows of stamps.
The straight edge will also serve to retain the stamp book in place within the container and permit the same from readily and easily dropping 2 out of the container when the cover is opened from the bottom part. The slide may be kept between the pages of the book and thus in this manner prevent the stamp book from sliding downwardly when the container may be held in a vertical position.
It will be apparent that the container is of such size as to be easily carried in a pocket or pocketbook. The parts are rounded at the corners and will be held in tight engagement with one another when they are hinged together so that the bottom part ts within the cover or the cover extended over the bottom part.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as dei-ined by the appended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:
A stamp package comprising a standard stamp book having lines of perforations between the stamps, a bottom part having hinge projections at one edge, a top part having hinge projections at one edge cooperating with the hinge projections of the bottom part, a hinge pin extending between the projections, and means for holding the top and bottom parts together when the top part is extended over the bottom part, said hinge pin extending between the hinge projections of the parts and a straight edge slide hinged upon the hinge pin and adjustable along the hinge pin for alignment between the rows of stamps and with lines of perforations thereof and over which the stamps can be torn, said slide extending across the parts and the stamps and lying within the parts and being in length substantially the width of the parts.
