[Class 16.] The free edges of the covers of a bound book are associated with a sliding-clasp fastener adapted in one extreme position to retain the covers in closed condition, and in the other extreme position to render the covers free to be moved hingedly in relation one to another. The covers a of a pocket, account, or hymn book, a Bible, ledger, or a register are shown as of the yapp type, the edges b having opposed foundation strips c of a sliding-clasp fastener e sewn at f or otherwise connected thereto. The clasp g is adapted to move in a curved direction into a small space h between the back of the book and the back portion of the covers, so that the covers a can open out with complete freedom. In order that the clasp may operate freely at the corners of the book cover the width of the foundation strips c may be increased, or the width of the lips b may be reduced at the corners to give a more gradual curve. Means for locking the book when closed comprises an apertured tab secured to the corner of the book adjacent the clasp g when the fastener is closed, a padlock being passed through this aperture and an aperture provided in the finger-piece g<1> of the clasp.
