HAIR CUTTING ATTACHMENT FOR ELECTRIC RAZORS Filed March 5, 1948 Bernharf F. Sand/Ia INVENTOR- Patented Apr. 3, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HAIRCUTTING ATTACHMENT FOR ELECTRIC RAZORS Bernhart P. Sandlie, Malta, Mont.
Application March 5, 1948, Serial No. 13,125
- 2 Claims. 1
The present invention relates to new and useful improvement in attachments for electric razors and more particularly to an attachment whereby the electric razor may be used for cutting hair.
An important object of the invention is to provide a comb forming shoe for movement over the scalp and pivotally supporting an electric razor thereon in a position to cut the hair, the pivotal movement of the razor raising or lowering its cutting edge to regulate the length of the hair.
A further object of the invention is to provide an attachment of this character which may be easily and quickly placed in position on an electric razor, hair clipper or the like without necessitating any changes or alterations in the construction thereof.
An additional object is to provide an attachment of this character which is simple and practical in construction, efficient and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purpose for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure l is a side elevational view showing the electric razor supported in position on the comb forming shoe;
Figure 2 is a front elevational view;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the comb forming shoe, and
' Figure 4 is a similar view of the clamp for attaching the razor to the shoe.
Referring now to the drawing in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a I preferred embodiment of the invention, the
numeral 5 designates a substantially rectangular shaped clamp generally which includes a U- shaped portion 6 having one end rolled as shown at I and provided with a hinge pin 3 and to which one end of a locking plate 9 is pivotally attached, the free end of the plate being curved downwardly as shown at It to provide a catch for looking engagement with the other rolled edge I I of the U-shaped member 5. I
2 Trunnions I2 project outwardly from the opposite sides of the clamp 5 and the clamp is secured in position on an electric razor I3 adjacent its cutting end.
A comb forming shoe I4 includes a base plate I5 with upstanding ears I6 at each side thereof having openings H for pivotally receiving the trunnions I2. The front edge of the plate I5 is formed with teeth I8 and a thumb or finger grip I9 projects upwardly from the rear edge of the plate.
In the operation of the device the clamp 5 is secured in position on an electric razor I3, or upon a hair clipper, and a trunnion I2 of the clamp 5 engaged in the openings I! of the comb forming shoe I4 to provide for a vertical rocking movement of the razor whereby to raise or lower the cutting edge thereof. The shoe I4 is then moved along the scalp while the razor cuts the hair to a desired length.
The thumb or finger grip I9 enables the operator to hold the shoe I4 firmly against the scalp without danger of tilting.
In View of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of'the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what claimed as new is:
1. A hair cutting attachment for electric razors comprising a U-shaped shoe including a comb plate at its base, and a rectangular-shaped clamp attached to an electric razor and pivoted to the shoe for vertical tilting movement of the razor, said clamp comprising a substantially U-shaped base in which the razor is positioned, and a latch plate pivoted to one end of the U-shaped base for overlying the top of the razor and interlocked with the other end of the U-shaped base for locking the clamp on the razor, and trunnions on the sides of the U-shaped base pivoted to the sides of the shoe.
3 V 2. A hair cutting attachment for electric razors comprising a U-shaped "shoe including a comb plate at its base, and a rectangular-shaped clamp attached to an electric razor and pivoted to the shoe for vertical tilting movement of the 5 razor, said clamp comprising a substantially U- shaped base in which the razor is positioned, and a latch plate pivoted to one end of the U-shaped base for overlying the top of the razor and interlocked with the other end of the U-shaped base for locking the clamp on the razor and trunnions on the sides of the U-shaped base pivoted to the sides of the shoe, and said shoe including an upstanding thumb grip at its rear edge.
