The primary object of the present invention I claim: is to provide a simple fastening means for a pro- 1. A protective safety garment comprising, a tective garment that will become completely disflexible apron having a downwardly extended porengaged from the wearer when given a sharp tion of substantial width adapted to substantially pull or tug. Ihave discovered that, to accomplish cover the abdominal front of the wearer and this, it is essential that the snap-fasteners be having an upwardly extended bib of lesser width placed on the back of the garment and not on than the downwardly extended portion, each of the front, as has heretofore been done. Prefthe upper outer corners of the abdominal portion erably, the stud portion of. the snap-fastener exof the garment having secured thereto an in-" tends inwardly towards the body of the wearer, wardly extended snap-fastener stud, a securing and the socket portion on the strap is presented strap adapted to extend around the body of the outwardly to receive the stud. wearer and having near each of its ends a snap- The invention is illustrated in the accompanyfastener socket member of which the open end ing drawings, in which of the socket faces outwardly to be snapped onto Figure 1 is an elevational view of an apron one of the aforesaid inwardly extended studs, the equipped with the improved securing straps; Fig. upper outer corners of the bib also each having 2, an enlarged fragmentary sectional view showan inwardly extended snap-fastener stud, and a ing how the stud on the apron engages the outsecuring strap adapted to extend around the rear wardly presented socket on the strap; and Fig, 3 of the neck of the wearer, said last mentioned is a fragmentary perspective view showing how strap having near each of its ends a snap-fastener the fastener may be pulled away from the strap. socket member of which the open end of the In the embodiment illustrated, a fabric apron socket faces outwardly to be snapped onto one of 4 having a bib 5 is preferably provided on its the inwardly extended bib studs, whereby in an front or outer face with a coating to give it longer emergency the garment may be quickly removed wear and prevent penetration by oils, gases, paint, by a single quick outward pull on the front por-' or the likee apron is wn provided with tion of the garment by the wearer, at least one foul S p buttons Which ve re W y p 40 of said socket members on each strap being lonsented studs. such as shown in Figs- 2 and gitudinally adjustable on the strap.
The Straps may be of 1934191181101 2. A protective safety garment comprising a and are provlded a end pqrtlons wlth flexible aprong having secured to each of its two snap'fastenelg which z i ga side edge portions an inwardly extended snaptenet's 6 on t e apron to ma 6 re easa e i' fastener stud, a securing strap adapted to extend nection. Preferably, one of the fasteners is th b k d f th M bod mounted on a slotted carrier member 9, so as to around e as an S1 es 0 e We 6 s y be adjustable onthestmp1 and having near each end of the strap a snap- It will be noted that by the arrangement Shown fastener socket member of whlch the open end of a sudden outward tug on the apron 4 will cause the Socket faces outwardly to be snapped onto the fastener to become disengaged. On the other hand, if the stud 6 were on the opposite side of the apron, it would not be released by a strong tug, and if the apron were caught in a machine one of said inwardly extended studs, whereby in an emergency the garment may be quickly removed by a single quick outward pull on the garment by the wearer.
3. A protective safety garment comprising a flexible apron having secured to each of its two side edge portions an inwardly facing snap-fastener member, a securing strap adapted to extend from the garment edges around the back of the wearers body and having near each end of the strap an outwardly facing snap-fastener member complemental to the adjacent snap-fastener on the apron and adapted to be snapped thereto to hold the apron on the wearer, whereby in an 10 REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
