My invention relates to garments and particularly to garments formed with a drop seat and and having belt straps attached to the drop seat and connected at the front, together with auxiliary straps attached to the belt straps and drop seat `for guiding the drop seat into closing position.`

An object of the invention resides in providing a garment of such character which will be eX- tremely serviceable.

Anotherobject of the invention resides in providing a garment in which the drop seat will be `held securely in position.

\ A feature of` the invention resides in providing a garment in which the garment is prevented from sagging when in closing position.

Another object of the invention resides in pro vidingan attaching loop at each side of the garment through which the auxiliary straps pass and in further providing metal engaging members connected to the drop seat for engagement with the loops for supporting the drop seat from the loops.

A still further object of the `invention resides in providing a plurality of said loops on each side of the garment adapted to be engaged by said engaging membersfor holding the garment in gathered position.

Another object of the invention resides in constructing said engaging members with hooks connested to the auxiliary straps and adapted to engage the loops on the garment.

Another object of the invention resides in constructing the engaging members with shoulders cooperating with the hooks to hold the loops in position and the drop seat supported through the Fig. 2 is aV fragmentary perspective view of the f:

Where garments provided with drop seats are constructed with auxiliary belt straps adapted to extend through a guide member attached to the garment, considerable wear of the straps at the locality of attachment of the same to the drop seat occurs. Also considerable sagging of the drop seat occurs when the garment is too large for the user. The present invention overcomes this diiculty by utilizing an engaging member attached to the drop seat and to the auxiliary strap for engagement with theguide member on the garment. These same engaging members also serve to hold the garment gathered at the sides of the same.

Theinvention may be embodied in several different types of garments,such as garments having a jacket and trousers combined, or a bib or Suspenders combined with trousers, or with trousers` alone. For the purpose of illustrating the invention I have shown a garment, indicated in its entirety by the reference character A. This garment is of the type having a jacket IIJ and trousers II connected therewith,

The trousers II comprise legs I2 and I3, which are searned together along the sides of the garment, as indicated at I4. The trousers are formed with two front portions I5 and I 6 and a rear portion I1, which are adapted to `be secured together through a placket I8 and concealed buttons. Such construction, being well known in the art, has not been shown in detail in the drawing. a p

The jacket I0 consists of two front portions ZI and 22 and a back 23 connected to the same with seams 24 which lie in continuation of the seams I4. The front portions 2| and 2'2 lie in continuation of the front portions I 5 and I6 of the trousers I I and are secured together by means of buttons 25. Jacket I0 includes a collar 2S and may or may not,` as desired, be constructed with sleeves.

The Waistline of the garment is designated at 29, as best shown in Fig. 2. Formed as a continuation of the rear portion Il of the trousers I I is adrop seat 32, the upper marginal portion 33 of which is disposed substantially at the waistline Z9 of the garment. To the marginal portion 33 of the drop seat 32 is attached ahem 34 which extends completely across the same and which strengthens and supports the drop seat. The material from which the hem 34 is constructed extends outwardly beyond the drop seat and is seamed at its edges to form a pair of belt straps 35 and 38 connected to the drop seat and projecting outwardly therefrom. These belt straps thus become attached at one end' to the drop seat 32. The other ends of the belt straps have secured to the same, complemental buckle members 3l and 38 which may be attached to one another, as shown in Fig. 1, to hold the belt straps in position andthe drop seat properly supported. These buckle members may be adjusted along the belt straps to vary the girth of the garment.

In conjunction with the two belt straps 35 and 35, two auxiliary belt straps 4I and 42 are employed which overlie the said belt straps. The auxiliary belt straps 4| and 42 are stitched or otherwise secured to the belt 35 and 36 near the outer ends, as designated at 43. These belt straps are attached to the hem 34 by means of engaging members 44 and 45 which will be presently described in detail. When the two straps 35 and 36 are straightened out, the straps 4l and 42 overlie the same and are of substantially the same length between points of attachment, `as the said straps 35 and 36 and vthe `intervening portions of the hem 34.

Disposed on the back 34 of the jacket it), substantially at the waistline 29, and on each side of the garment, are loops 46, 41 and 43. These Iloops are attached by means of strips of fabric 49 which pass through the said loops and are stitched to the garment proper. The loops 46 are situated in proximity to the seam 24, while the `lo-ops 47 and V48 are disposed in spaced relation to one another and to the loops 46 and are situated rearwardly of fthe'same seams.

The engaging members 44 `and 45 -being identical in construction, only the engaging member 45 which is shown in detail in Fig. 5, will be described. This .engaging member is constructed from sheet metal and is stamped to form an eye through which stitches 52 may be taken to secure the same to the waistband 34. This engaging member is constructed with a hook 53 at Vthe outer end thereof which is adapted to hook into the various loops 45, 41 and 43, as will be presently described in detail. The hook 53 is itself constructed with an eye 54 through which the end of the auxiliary strap 42 passes. The strap at such location is folded back upon itself and stitched to hold the same securely attached to the engaging member. The portion of the engaging member-45, in which the eye 5I is formed, is provided with a shoulder 55 opposite they hook 53'.

The use of the invention is as follows: When the drop seat is lowered, the `same occupies the position shown in Fig. 3 and the loops 46, 4l and 48 ride upon the auxiliary straps 4I and 42 near the ends where said straps are attached to the belt straps 35 and 36, as indicated at 43. When the drop seat is to be raised, the buckle members 3l and38 are drawn forwardly and the straps 4l and 42 slide along the loops 46, 4I and 48 until the loops 48 reach the engaging members 44 and 45. The hooks 53 may then be inserted linto the i-lrst loops 48. Where the garment is of the proper size `for the wearer, the engaging members 44 and 45 are hooked into the loops 48 only. After engagement of the engaging members 44 and 45 with the loops 48, the buckle members 3l and 38 may be hooked together at the front. 'I'he garment then takes the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2. If the garment is slightly larger than required for the wearer, the excess material in the sides of the garment may be taken up or gathered by sliding the portions of the garment adjacent the loops 41 rearwardly and bringing the said loops 41 into engagement with the loops 41, as shown in Fig. 4. If the garment is excessively loose, said garment may be still further taken up at the sides by bringing the loops 46 into engagement with the engaging members 44 and 45, the parts then taking the position shown in Fig. 5. It will thus be seen that the garment may be gathered at the sides so as to provide a neat form-fitting garment, regardless of the size of the wearer. Due to the fact that the loops are engaged by the engaging members 44 and 45, al1 strain of the garment is transmitted directly from the drop seat to said engaging members and the various loops engaged thereby. In this manner, fraying of the auxiliary belt straps is prevented and similarly, roping of the belt straps is avoided. When the belt straps 35 and 36 are in place and secured together the abutments 55 on the engaging members 44 and 45 engage the loops 48 and draw the back 23 smoothly over the body of the wearer.

The advantages of my invention are manifest. An extremely simple and practical construction is provided whereby wear and fraying of the auxiliary belt straps is reduced. With my invention the engaging members, cooperating, with the loops, support the drop seat independently of the belt straps. These engaging members also serve to attach the auxiliary belt straps to the waistband. The shoulders 0n the engaging members serve to draw the back of the `garment smoothly over the person of the wearer while the hooks on the engaging'members engage the various loops and hold the garment gathered at the sides. When the belt straps are secured together through the buckle member of the garment, the engaging members become securely attached to the loops and the drop seat is held in closing position so that strain upon the belt straps is entirely eliminated. The garment can be constructed at a nominal cost and the engaging members add only slightly to the cost of the garment.

Changes in the specific form of my invention as herein disclosed, 'may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

1. A garment including trousers having a rear opening therein, a drop seat connected .to the trousers and covering said opening, said drop seat being free at the upper end and terminating substantially at the waistline of the garment, a pair of belt straps, each attached at one end to the drop seat at the waistline thereof, complemental buckle members attached to the belt straps at the other ends thereof and adapted to secure the belt straps together, loops attached to the garment along the waistline at opposite sides of the garment, auxiliary straps passing through said loops and secured to said belt straps and hooks forming a connection between said auxiliary straps said drop seat and adapted to engage said loops for holding the drop seat suspended from the loops.

A garment including trousers Ahaving a rear opening therein, a drop seat connected to the trousers and covering said opening, said drop seat being free at the upper end and terminating substantially at the waistline of the garment, a pair of belt straps, each attached at one end to the drop seat at the waistline thereof, completo secure the belt straps together, loops attached to the garment along the waistline at opposite sides of the garment, auxiliary straps passing through said loops and secured to said belt straps and drop-seat and hook connected to said auxiliary straps andadapted to engage said loops for holding the drop seat suspended from the loops, and shoulders on said hoolns for engagement with the loops to hold the back of the garment in position.

3. A garment including trousers having a rear opening therein, a drop seat connected to the trousers and covering said opening, said drop seat being free at the upper end and terminating substantially at the waistline of the garment, a pair of belt straps, each attached at one end to the drop seat at the waistline thereof, complemental buckle members attached to the belt straps at the ends thereof and adapted to secure the belt straps together, loops attached to l drop seat, `engaging members formed with eyes therein, stitches extending through said eyes and into said drop seat for securing said engaging members thereto, hooks formed on said engaging members, said hooks having eyes therein through which the auxiliary belt straps pass, said hooks being adapted to engage said loops.

A garment including trousers having a rear opening therein, a drop seat connected to the trousers and covering said opening, said drop seat being free at the upper end and terminating substantially at the waistline of the garment, a, pair of belt straps, each attached at one end to the drop seat at the waistline thereof, complemental buckle members attached to the belt straps at the ends thereof and adapted to secure the belt straps together, loops attached to the garment along the waistline at opposite sides of the garment, auxiliary straps passing through said loops and secured to said belt straps and drop seat, engaging members formed With eyes therein, stitches extending through said eyes and into said drop seat for securing said engaging members thereto, hooks formed on said engaging members, said hooks having eyes therein through which the auxiliary straps pass, said hooks being adapted to engage said loops, and shoulders formed on said engaging members adjacent the first named portions and disposed opposite said hooks for assisting in resisting movement of the loops relative to the engaging members.

A garment including trousers having a rear opening therein, a drop seat connected to the trousers and covering said opening, said drop seat being free at the upper end and terminating substantially at the waistline of the garment, a pair of belt straps, each attached at one end to the drop seat at the waistline thereof, complemental buckle members attached to the belt straps atthe other ends thereof and adapted to secure the belt straps together, loops attached to the garment along the waistline at opposite sides of the garment, auxiliary straps passing through said loops, each strap being secured at one end to one of the belt straps, and a hook disposed at the other end of each of the auxiliary straps and connected to the drop seat, said auxiliary straps leading the hooks into engagement with said loops and holding said belt straps attached to said loops.

A garment including trousers having a rear opening therein, a drop seat connected to the trousers and covering said opening, said drop seat being free at the upper end and terminating substantially at the waistline of the garment, a pair of belt straps, each attached at one end to the drop seat at the waistline thereof, complemental buckle members attached to the belt straps at the other ends thereof and adapted to secure the belt straps together, loops attached to the garment along the waistline at opposite sides of the garment, auxiliary straps passing through said loops and secured to said belt straps and drop seat, and fastener members carried by i said auxiliary straps and adapted to engage the loops when the belt straps are in applied position, said belt straps covering said fastener members when in applied position.

7 A garment including trousers having a rear opening therein, a drop seat connected to the trousers and covering said opening, said drop seat being free at the upper end and terminating substantially at the waistline of the garment, a pair of belt straps, each attached at one end to the drop seat at the waistline thereof, complemental buckle members attached to the belt straps at the other ends thereof and adapted to secure the belt straps together, loops attached to the garment along the waistline at opposite sides of the garment, auxiliary straps passing through said loops, each strap being secured at one end to one of the belt straps, and a fastener member for engagement with the loops disposed at the other end of each of the auxiliary straps and connected to the drop seat, said auxiliary straps leading the fastener members into engagement with the said loops and holding said belt straps attached to said loops.
