Description

April 26, GENNUSA I 2,468,192
FLOATING SOAP AND HOLDER THEREFOR Filed Feb. 8, 1946 1770007727 lawn Ira? c7. Gen/1 41.9w,
W26 WW Patented Apr. 26, 1949 3 Claims. (Cl. 4528) This invention elates to an improved floating soap, and a holder therefor.
,A primary object of thisinvention is the ,pro-
,vision ofan improved deviceadapted to 'be' utilizedwith a cake of soap, regardless of. the spec'ific gravity of the particular soap employed, whereby the soap will float under all conditions.
A further important object of this invention is the provision of a holder for such floating soap, characterized by means whereby the soap is maintained out of contact with any surface, in such manner as to avoid the soap sticking thereto, or remaining in water, with consequent dissolution and waste of the soap.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a float for soap characterized by means whereby the soap may be readily detected when floating in soapy water or the like.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a holder particularly adapted to the use with such floating soap, characterized by means whereby the soap is maintained in ready position for use and easily accessible at all times.
Still another object of the invention is the provision of means in association with a cake of soap, whereby the soap may be utilized with a maximum completeness, and whereby the customary dissolution and breaking up into small flakes of a cake of soap, when the same has been almost completely used, is obviated.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device adapted to be associated with a cake of soap, which, when the soap has been completely utilized, may be employed as a toy for children, or the like.
Other objects will in part be obvious and in part be pointed out as the description of the invention proceeds, and shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of this inventive concept.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top view partially in plan and partially in section of one form of soap and its associated holder embodying features of this inventive concept.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken substantially along the line 22 of Figure 1, as viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially along the line 3-3 of Figure 2, as viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows.
Having reference now to the drawings, there is generally indicated at II) a cake of soap of any desired kind and of any desired specific gravity, the shape thereof being optional. Positioned int e,rior.ly .of. the v melded witlitheJsea ws utigai earianu eetur pre a ly. mm e soap .1 and p eieteblyia e n ubula memb r H wliicfii of plastic. elthw nothe b e ma er al i tiliz dif d s red ,lfh en c t u e, 1 L S l1-. 9l1d tbs-ext e i of the cake of soap I0 and are compressed or flattened, as indicated at l2, in such manner as to seal the tube H in air-tight relation. This compression and sealing may be efiected in any desired manner, as by heat treatment of the ends of the tube after the soap has been cast therearound, or prior to the casting thereof as may be necessary or desirable. The flattened ends l2 form tabs, as best shown in Figures 2 and 3, of elongated, substantially rectangular cross-section. Apertures l3 may be passed through the tabs l2, if desired, and permit the hanging of the soap and its associated tube II on a nail or hook or the like, in the event that the device is not utilized with the holder of the instant invention, to be more fully described hereinafter.
If desired, the tabs I2 may be of a relatively brilliant color, distinguishing the same from the body of the soap, in order that the soap by means of the colored tabs can be readily visible when floating in soapy water, as in the bath or the like.
It will be seen that by virtue of the air-filled buoyant tube II, the cake of soap l0 may be readily floated, regardless of the normal specific gravity thereof, the size of the tube being readily calculated in accordance with the density of the soap and the particular components thereof.
The soap I 0 provided with the tube l I comprising a feature of the instant invention is adapted to be held and supported in a holdergenerally indicated at l5 and including a base portion [6 provided at its extremities with upwardly extending portions or lugs I1. Each of the end lugs I1 is provided at its mid point with a channel or groove l8, so dimensioned as to accommodate the tabs l2 in such manner as to preclude rotation of the soap and its associated tube H, and correspondingly so spaced as to prevent longitudinal movement thereof within the holder, it being pointed out that a particular size holder is adapted for a particular size cake of soap. In this connection, it is to be noted that under normal conditions two sizes of soap may be standardized, as for example, one for bath use and one for laundry use.
It will thus be seen that when the soap ID of the instant invention is supported in the holder l5, all contact of the soap with any surface whatsoever is substantially precluded, the same thereof i aholloW trally disposed hollow, extending through said soap, said member being :sealed at its ends, said sealed ends forming fiattened tabs extending exteriorly of said soap.
being wholly supported by the end tabs I: in
the slots l8. Obviously, no moisture may accumulate in the holder due to the absence of sides thereof, and such moisture as is retained by the soap after use will readily drain there from when the same is suspended in the holder in the manner previously described.
From the foregoing it will now be seen that there is herein provided an improved floating soap and holder therefor, which accomplishes all the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial importance.
As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as v illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
I claim:
1. In combination with a cake of soap, a cenbuoyant tubular member 2. In combination with a cake of soap, a cen- 4 trally disposed hollow, buoyant tubular member extending through said soap, said member being sealed at its ends, said sealed ends forming flattened tabs extending exteriorly of said soap and having apertures therein for suspending said soap.
3. In combination with a cake of soap, a centrally disposed hollow buoyant tubular member extending through said soap, said member being sealed at its ends, said sealed ends forming flattened tabs extending exteriorly of said soap, and a holder comprised of a base and upstanding lugs at the ends of said base, said lugs having slots therein for the accommodation of said tabs.
