ATTORNEYS Patented Aug. 31, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE TOOTHPICK SHAKER Stephen Kassovic, La Salle, Ill.
Application December 17, 1945, Serial No. 635,571
1 Claim. 1
The invention relates to a dispenser and more especially to a tooth-pick dispenser.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein toothpicks can be carried therein and on inverting the same from normal position the toothpicks held can be singly dispensed through a shaking action imparted by hand to such device, the latter being usable in public or private eating establishments, with resultant saving in waste of toothpicks.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the same is in the form of container of bottle-like appearance, and enables a determined quantity of toothpicks to be stored therein, for protection against dust and dirt during storage, the device being readily accessible and is convenient for manipulation for dispensing purposes.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in operation, neat in appearance for dining service, strong, durable, thoroughly sanitary, light in weight, possessed of few parts and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1 through the dispensing end, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the device.
Figure 5 is a side view of a slight modification.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary vertical longitudinal sectional view through the filling end of the modification shown in Figure 5.
Fig. 7 is a bottom plan view of the modified form of the shaker shown in Figure 5.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device constituting the present invention comprises, a cylindrical bottle-like body 10, having a removable dispensing cap or head II, which has a slanting area l2, provided with a discharge opening or aperture l3 at the lowest point of such 2 incline, when the body [0 has been inverted from a normal upright or standing position, so that a gravity action will take place within such body for the displacement of tooth-picks stored therein to have a tooth pick singly delivered therefrom.
The inner surface of the incline or slanting area is guide channeled at M providing platforms with arcuate shoulders for directing the tooth picks l5 toward the opening or aperture l3, to have the foremost one of such tooth picks enter such opening or aperture for a dispensing singly of a tooth-pick from the interior of the body through shaking action hand imparted thereto.
The end constituting the bottom It to the body i0 is permanently closed and fiat so that the device can be brought to rest on a support or the like when the said device is in normal upright position.
The cap or head H is detachably connected to the body 10 by the screw threaded connections 11 and on removal of this cap the body can be filled with a quantity of tooth-picks Hi to be subsequently singly dispensed therefrom.
In Figures 5 and 6 of the drawing, there is shown a slight modification of the device wherein a screw plug closure I8 is substituted for the cap or head I I and such plug closure is provided with a finger grip I9, the closure being screwed into the body of the device so that its open end edge 20 will make rest contact with a support when the device is in upright normal position.
I claim:
In a toothpick shaker, a tubular casing having one end perpendicular to the axis thereof and the other inclined providing a long and a short side of the casing with an opening in the inclined end adjacent the wall of the long side, the inner surface of said inclined end formed with thickened portions relatively spaced forming a narrow channel for receiving one toothpick at a time and leading to the opening and said thickened portions providing platforms at each side of the channel for retaining the bulk of the toothpicks out of the channel, the said inclined end having a smooth inner surface continuing through the channel to the opening, and the said platforms having arcuate shoulders leading from said smooth surface to the said channel.
