F. H. MCENANEY DENTIFRI GE RECEPTACLE Filed March 26. 1924 l/H llllll @M @M/Egea@ @y INVENTOR WITNESS:
ATTORNEY Patented Oct. Z0, 1925.
UNITED sTATEs FRANK H. MOENANEY, F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DENTIFBICE REGEPTACLE.
Application filed Hatch 26, 1824. Serial No. 702,114.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK H. MC- ENANEY, a citizen of the United States, residinw at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and tate of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dentifrice Receptacles, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates to a dentifrice rece tacle.
he principal object of the invention is to provide a compact and neat toilet article which may be carried in the pocket or a 4 traveling bag, and which is capable of instant use as the tooth brush and the dentifrice are enclosed in a single container.
A further object of the invention is .to provide a means of dispensing the dentifrice upon the bristles of the tooth brush, without removing the dentifrice tube from the container.
A further object of the invent-ion is to construct an article of the class mentioned which is simple in construction, cheap of manufacture and highly sanitary for the pu ose intended.
ith these and other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawingz in which igure 1 is a perspective View of the invention with the parts enclosed.
Fi ure 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectiona View therethrough.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a sectional elevation showing the position of the tooth brush ready for use.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the reference numeral 10 designates a receptacle or casing which is opened at both ends and which is provided with a partition 11 intermediate its ends whereby to form a pair of compartments 12 and 13. The open end of the compartment 12 is provided with a socket 14, and adjacent the socket 14 is an internally screw-threaded portion 15. A tooth brush 17 is normally housed in the compartment 12 and comprises a bristle section 18 and a handle section 19. The bristle section 18 and the handle section 19 are detachably connected together in any suit- -serves as a handle.
`the same is retained therein by a ca able manner but in the present instance the means 1s shown as comprising a set screw 20, whereby a new bristle section may be associated with the head when desired.A The handle section 19 is formed with a screw threaded portion 21 for co-action with the threads 15 of the casing when the same 1s 1n normal position as shown in Fi re 2. AdJacent the. screw threaded portion 21 there 1s provided a smooth portlon 22 for co-act1on with socket 14 when the tooth brush is 1n position for use such as shown 1n Flgure 4 and in which case the casing The end of the handle 19 1s formed with a manipulating portion 23 whereby the brush may be screwed into the casing or removedtherefrom as will be readily understood. c Insertible in the compartment 13 is a dentifrice tube 24 of the collapsible type, and
25 detachably connected to the open en of the compartment. A presser member 26 made of a flexible material such as fiber, rests upon the entire length of the tube 24, and the side edges of the member are beaded as at 27 for co-action in the inner wall of the compartment. The member 26 is adapted to be brought into pressing engagement with the tube and for this purpose I employ a lever 28, which is fulcrumed to the casing as at 29, and is provided with a head 3o which projects through a slot- 31 inthe casing and into the compartment ,13. A pin 32 passes throu h the head and into longitudinal grooves 3 formed on the member 26 whereby the presser member may be removed from the compartment when desired. The head 30 of the lever is formed with a rounded face 34 for co-action with the top of the presser member and it will be seen that upon the raising of the lever 28 to a position shown in dotted lines in Figure 2, that the presser member will move in a downward direction to im lart an even pressure over the entire lsur ace of the tube. This downward movement will cause the beaded edges 27 to coact with the inner walls of the compartment to hug the tube and-to assist in the complete ejection of the contents therefrom.
From the foregoing description, it will be manifest that the tooth brush is removed from its compartment and the cap removed from the dentifrice compartment, after which the bristle section of the brush is Q maaien which t e brush section is insertedjn'the socket as shown in Figure and is then' read for use.
'le have described .what I deem td be the most desirable embodiment of` my inl'vention, it isrobviousY that many ofthe details may be varied without in anyway departing from the spirit of my invention and I therefore do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein set forth nor 175 to anything less than the Whole of my inventionrlimited only by the appended claims g What is claimed as new is 1. An article ofV the class mentioned including a receptacle open at one end, a dentifrice tube adapted to be inserted in said receptacle, a yieldable presser member overlying the entire length of the tube and coacting with the inside' walls of said receptacle and operable means for moving said presser member into pressing engagement with said tube, said means comprising a lever fulcrumed to said receptacle and having a head engaging said Ypresser member.
2. device of the class described including a tubular housing, a collapsible tube removably mounted in said housing, a yieldable presser member within said housin and extending approximately the length o said tube, portions formed on said memberfor engagement with the inside walls of said housing, and a lever fulcrumed to said housing for co-action with said presser member to cause said portions to partially surround the tube to eject the contents therefrome In testimony whereof I have afiixed my si gnature. Y
s FRANK H. MOENANEY.
