Description
Feb. 9, 1943. w. K. PETRIE DIARY, NOTE-BOOK, AND THE LIKE Filed Aug. 22, 19 42 In lll lll:
I 1; fW,iBM,Wa JLTM Patented Feb. 9, 1943 UNITED ST i' OFFICE Application August 22, .1942, Serial No. 455,766 In Great Britain June 24, 1941 1 Claim.
The invention relates to improvements in pocket-diaries, note-books and the like.
An object of the invention is to provide a combined diary and note-book such that the pages of the diary and the pages of the note-book overlap whereby the pages of the note-book may be used as a book-mark for the pages of the diary and vice versa.
In the accompanyin drawing, Fig. 1 is a front view of a combined diary and note-book according to an embodiment of the invention. Figs. 2 and 3 are sectional views, the sections being taken on the lines II-II and III-III respectively of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the combined diary and note-book open for use.
The embodiment of the invention illustrated includes a backing sheet I of suitable material, such as leather, artificial leather or the like, desirably of oblong shape, which is folded to present two binding folds 2 and 3 into which are inserted pads or piles l, 5 of paper sheets. The sheets of the said pads are held in position by snap-fasteners 6.
One pad partly overlaps the other pad so that, in use, one pad, or one or more sheets of said pad may be used as a book-mark for the sheets or pages of the other pad.'
Conveniently and as illustrated, the one fold 2 may be arranged adjacent to one end of the backing sheet and the other fold 3 may be arranged at or about the middle part of the backing sheet I, the backing sheet I being extended in front of the pads whereby the said pads are enclosed in a folder. If desired, the folded-over edges of the backin sheet I may abut against one another as shown, or one folded-over edge may partly overlap the other folded-over edge.
The pages of one pad may be ruled oil into dated spaces as shown in Fig. 4 while the pages of the other pad may be headed Notes.
In Fig. 4 the pages of the pads are shown ruled in the direction of the shorter dimension of the pads. If desired, the ruling may be in the direction of the larger dimension of the pads.
The combined diary and note-book may be provided with a loop 1 adapted to carry a pencil 8, or a pen, and on the inner (or outer) side of the backing sheet a pocket or pockets may be provided.
If desired, the backing sheet may be provided with a supporting strut so that the combined diary and note-book may be used as a desk or table diary; or the combined diary and note-book may be fitted to or carried by a supporting frame, stand or the like adapted to be placed on a, desk, table or the like.
I claim:
A combined diary and note-book comprising a backing sheet having a back section, said backing sheet being folded upon itself at opposite ends of said back section to form binding folds and front fiaps, a pile of sheets of note paper having one marginal edge inserted in one binding fold and a pile of diary Paper having its opposite marginal edge inserted in the other binding fold, and snap fasteners securing each of said piles in the appropriate fold inwardly from the marginal edges of said piles, one of said front flaps being relatively short and terminatin adjacent the binding fold it forms so that it does not cover a large area of the sheets of paper secured in that binding fold, the other front flap being of a length sumcient to cover at least the major portion of the sheets of paper secured in the binding fold which it forms so that it forms a front cover, the length of the piles of sheets of note paper and diary paper, respectively, relative to the distance between the binding folds, being such that said piles of note paper and diary paper overlap.
WILLIAM KINNELL PETRIE.
