a' 'myzw ATTCI RN EYB Patented Oct. 30, 1945 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HOLDUP FOR LUG STRAPS Wingo Herron, Augusta, Ga. Application September 27, 1944, Serial No. 556,045
1 Claim.
The invention relates to a loom attachment, and more especially to a hold-urp device for a lug strap of a loom.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the lug stick and the picker staff or stick are held 'loop connected with each other, and within the or stick and without mutilating activity on the latter in the operation of the loom.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eilicient in operation, strong, durable, readily and easily applied in place and removed when required, adapted for loose interfitting with the lug strap, and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which shows the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary side view of a loom frame having the lug stick, picker stick and lug strap with the device constructed in accordance with the invention applied to the latter, and the picker stick in contact therewith.
Figure 2 is a sectional'view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 3 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the lug strap with the device in position therein.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detaiL A designates generally a portion of the loom frame, having arranged therewith the lug strap I0 loosely connected at II to' the lug stick I2, and within this strap is located the picker staff or stick I3, as usual, which is loosely attached to the frame A for operation in the ordinary well known manner.
Within the lug strap II] is hung the hold-up device B, which comprises a frontal section or ply I4, preferably made of a piece of leather having a determined thickness, and backing ply or section I5, preferably made from fabric bonded with a rubber composition, which is die cut to shape and then vulcanized in a mold. These sections or plies I4 and I5, after the cutting and shaping of the former, are brought together in matched relation to one another, with a centrally located longitudinally disposed inherently springy steel strip I 6 interposed therebetween, and riveted, as at I1 to each other, best seen in Figures 2, 3 and 4 of the drawing.
The hold-up consists of a head I8, a bottom portion I 9, and an intermediate body area or portion 20, respectively, and in opposite sides of the latter are inwardly directed notches 2| for the loose accommodation of the side stretches of the lug strap IU, whereby the hold-up will be interfitted thereto, as best seen in Figure 4 of the drawing, for hold-up action against the stall or stick I 3, which can be readily noted in Figure 1.
The springy leaf or strip I6 is maintained against displacement by certain of the rivets I1' which -anchor it in place, as will be apparent from Figure 3 of the drawing, as Figure 2 thereof.
What is claimed is:
A hold-up for a, lug strap of a loom, comprising a fibrous frontal section, a rubber vulcanized fabric backing section thereto, a springy metal strip between said sections at the medial portion thereof and extending from the top of said sections to the bottom thereof, means uniting the sections and strip together, a head formation to the sections, a bottom portion formed on said sections and an intermediate body area therebetween and having opposed notches for loosely receiving side stretches of said lug strap.
