1 Claim.
My invention relates to improvementsV in harness belly-bands. Its principal objects are, rst, to provide a simple Yand inexpensive bellyband for harness of the usual and well known type, which, by reason of its rigidity, strength and adaptation, aords better means for assembling the harness and for increasing theV strength and efliciency of allV parts thereof. Second, to provide an improved belly-band for harness, which affords adequate means for preventing breech-straps connected therewith fromV slackening or loosely drawing together or becoming entangled as heretofore, and keeps the harness better equipped for service in action. My invention is illustrated by the accompanying drawing in which similar letters and figures of reference indicate like parts. Referring thereto, Fig. 1 is a plan View of my harness belly-band as preferably constructed. Fig. 2 is a detail View of the metal band detached, which is enclosed within the band shown in Fig. 1. Y
Fig. 3 is a cross section on the dotted line 2 2 of Fig. 1. In the drawing A, indicates the outer leather band within which the metalrstrip B is Said strip is preferably divided longitudinally, leaving .an open space f between a pair of outer bars B and B', which may be infllled by a leather strip, or other suitable material, as shown in Fig. 3, f'. It is provided with 30 terminal loops b, b, and an opposite central loop c, adapted to engage the pair of breech straps d, d, and choke strap e, by the snap hooks l s, which terminate them respectively. The terminal loops project from the leather band and are spaced apart therein to hold and keep the 5 breech straps sufciently apart to keep them taut, and from entanglement or slackening or overstepping thereby. i,
The construction may be modied without departing from the spirit of the invention. 10 There are other apparent advantages that need not be mentioned, and experience has proved its utility.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let- 15 ters Patent is In a` harness, a belly-band therefor comprising an outer band, a metal strip of sufficient strength and weight to sustain the outer band in position .and support the harness connected 20 therewith embedded therein, a pair of loops spaced apart adapted to engage breech-straps of the harness and hold them apart rigidly, and Y a central loop adapted to engage the choke-strap detachably tothe belly-band, said loops united integrally with the metal strip and protruding therefrom thru the outer band in said spaced relation, substantially as set forth.
PHILIP S. SIDELL.
