Description

Aug. '25, 1942. A. B. MULLER SANITARY ATTACHMENT FOR CHILDREN'S TOILET SEATS Filed Sept. 27, 1941 INVENTOR- ATTORNEY.
Patented Aug. 25, 1942 SANITARY ATTACHMENT FOR CHILDREN S TOILET SEATS Albert E. Muller, Fort Wayne, Ind., as'signor to Juvenile Wood Products, Inc., a corporation of Indiana Application September 27, 1941, Serial No. 412,588
3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in sanitary attachments for childrens toilet seats adapted for intercepting and deflecting liquid expelled by a male infant while seated, and for directing the liquid into the bowl of a toilet. The invention is especially adaptable to that type of ,childs seat usually superimposed upon a regular or adults toilet seat, the front of which is vided with a gap or open space between its side portions.
An object of the invention is to provide a sanitary shield in the form of a liquid deflector that is readily attached to and detached from an open front seat without use of an auxiliary fixture.
Another object of the invention is to provide a toilet deflector constructed of a single body of material shaped in such fashion as to preclude secretions and permit thorough cleansing of the shield.
And a further object of the invention is to so construct the shield that, when mounted in lace in the gap of an auxiliary seat disposed in operative position on a regular seat, dislodgment of the shield by either inward or outward movement of the shield is circumvented.
Ordinarily, removable shields of this general character, through playfulness of the occupant, frequently become detached from the seat and dropped into the toilet bowl, or, are thrust outwardly and dropped upon the floor. It is therefore the purpose of this invention to so 'construct the shield that unintended removal thereof from the seat while occupied is obstructed.
Other objects and advantages of the invention appear in the following description.
An illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a structure in which the invention is incorporated;
Fig. 2 is a rear elevational view projected from Fig. 1, including in dotted outline the initial form of the shield before emplacement upon the seat attachment; and
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the shield on the line 3-3 of Fig. l, and including fragments of the seat attachment.
The illustrative embodiment of the invention consists of" a single body of pliant waterproof material, such as rubber, shaped to have "a vertically elongated rear open cavity I and an exterior lug 2 about its medial portion extending along its sides and across the front of the body. Preferably, the front portion of the lug has the form of one or more ribs 3. Each side portion of the lug has formed therein a horizontal gain 4 for the reception of the corresponding side portion of the childs seat 5 When the shield is in position for use. Each gain terminates at its forward end at a point spaced from the front end of the lug so that stops 6 are provided that overlap the front edge of the seat 5 when the shield is in operative position, and at the opposite end of said gains are provided outwardly projecting beads 1 on the side walls and front edges thereof that engage the adjacent walls of the seat at the junctures of the seat opening 8 and the gap 9.
The upper or receiving end portion ID of the body preferably is rearwardly inclined toward the occupant of the seat, the sides thereof being flared outwardly, and the lower portion II depending from the medial portion of the shield suitably to effect drainage of liquid from th cavity.
In use, the shield is applied to the childs seat by compressing the sides of the shield while inserting it in the gap 9 thereof thus permitting the side portions of the seat to be readily received in the gains, and when the shield is in place the stops contact with the front edge of the seat while the beads bear against the curved wall of the seat slightly beyond the juncture of the seat opening and the gap. The walls of the shield inherently tend to assume their initial extended shape and exert reactionary pressure against the adjacent contacted edges of the seat, thus firmly securing the shield in place during use. Removal of the shield is readily accomplished by again compressing the side walls thereof while moving it out of the gap. This is a desirable feature of the invention as it permits read removal of the shield for frequent cleansing which is conducive of sanitation.
Variations from the particular construction above disclosed may be resorted to by the exercise of skill in the art, without departure from the spirit or scope of the invention, and the following claims are intended to be inclusive of such variations.
What I claim is:
1. A sanitary shield for a male childs toilet seat where the seat is provided with a central opening and a gap leading therefrom through the front of said seat, said shield being composed of a single pliant body shaped to have an open rear cavity and a medial external lug extending along its sides and across its front, said lug having gains in its sides to receive adjacent portions of the seat, stops at the forward ends of the gains for engagement with the front edge of said seat, and outwardly projecting beads to engage the wall of the seat at places approximately back of the juncture of the seat opening and said gap.
2. A sanitary shield for a male childs toilet seat where the seat is provided with a central opening and a gap leading therefrom through the front of said seat, said shield being composed of a single pliant body shaped to have an open rear cavity and a medial external lug extending along its sides and across its front, said lug having gains in its sides to receive adjacent portions of the seat, and stops at the forward ends of the gains for engagement with the front edge of said seat.
3. A sanitary shield for a male child's toilet seat where the seat is provided with a central opening and a gap leading therefrom through the front of said seat, said shield being composed of a single pliant body shaped to have an open rear cavity and a medial external lug' extending along its sides and across its front, said lug having gains in the sides to receive adjacent portions of the seat, stops at the forward ends of the gains for engagement with the front edge of said seat, said body having an upwardly extending, rearwardly inclined and lateral outwardly flaring receiving portion, and a pendent portion to provide a drain for said shield.
