Description
Dec. 3, 1929. M. M. COSTIGAN 1,737,572
NURSERY CHAMBER VESSEL Filed Nov. 5; 1928 Patented Dec. 3, 1929 UNETED STATES PATENT OFFICE MARTHA MAUDE COSTIGAN, OF CLARENDON HILLS, ILLINOIS NURSERY CHAMBER VESSEL Application filed November 3, 1923. Serial no. 316,988.
The main objects of this invention are to provide an improved form of chamber vessel adapted for use in the nursery, particularly by male children; to provide an improved chamber having an improved form of bafiie conductor shaped to prevent the discharge of urine over the forward edge of the chamber; to provide an improved baflle device of this kind which is detachable to facilitate cleaning and removal when no longer required; and to provide an improved cham-' ber of this kind upon which the child may be placed astride the baffle without discomfort.
An illustrative embodiment of this invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a central section of a nursery toilet seat to which an improved baflie has been applied; the view being taken on the line 1-1 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same, taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1 and showing a portion of the baffle in dotted outline.
Fig. 3 is a perspective of the battle shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
In the embodiment herein shown, the improved chamber vessel includes a seat portion having the usual opening, at the front of which is located an improved bafiie conductor having a part which embraces the rim of the seat.
Various forms of conductor bafiies may be employed. In the form shown, the improved battle is applied to a nursery toilet seat 1 having the usual central opening 3 surrounded by a rim 4.
The battle conductor shown includes a bowlshaped body part 5 having a flange 6 integrally formed on the lower end thereof. The flange 6 and the lower wall of the body part 5 form a jaw 7, which is adapted to embrace the rim 4: of the seat. Formed in the flange 6, are apertures 8 for receiving screws 9 or other suitable fastening means for securing the baflle to the seat.
The lower wall of the body part 5 is recessed to form a central trough 10.
It is believed that the advantages of this improved device will be apparent from the foregoing description and the accompanying drawing.
Although but certain specific embodiments of this invention have been herein shown and described, it will be understood that certain details of the construction shown may be altered or omitted without departing from the spirit of this invention as defined by the following claims.
I claim:
1. A shield for toilet seats comprising a bowl shaped body portion, a lip on said body portion, a trough in the bottom wall of said body portion extending centrally of said lip for draining said body portion, and a flange at the end of said lip extending below said bottom wall and forming a jaw in conjunction with said bottom wall for receiving the rim of a toilet seat of standard construction.
2. The combination with a toilet seat comprising an inner peripheral rim having a rounded upper portion and a substantially flat bottom side, of a balfle comprising a bowl shaped body part, a lip on said body part shaped to conform with the curvature and rounded edge portion of said rim, and a flange on said lip, said flange being adapted to abut against the flat bottom side of said rim and forming a jaw in conjunction with the adjacent side of said bowl shaped body part for receiving said rim.
Signed at Chicago this 1st day of November 1928.
MARTHA MAUDE COSTIGAN.
