Description
Feb. 10, 1942. J. c. GALLAGHER SCREEN SHADE FOR MOTION PICTURES AND THE LIKE Filed Sept. 21, 1940 Patented Feb. 10, 1942 SCREEN SHADE FOR MOTION PICTURES AND THE LIKE James C. Gallagher, Green Bay, Wis.
Application September 21, 1940, Serial No. 357,782
3 Claims.
The invention relates to improvements in screen shades for motion pictures and the like andhas for its primary object the provision of a simpl and efiective screen shade of the character indicated which is capable of economical production and highly efiicient in use.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists of the combinations and arrangements oi parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a screen shade embodying the invention and shown in position of use;
Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the upper portion of the rear wall of the shade;
Fig. 3 a top plan view of one side of the shade with a portion of the cover broken away; and
Fig. 4 an enlarged side view of one upper corner of the shade.
The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing comprises an elongated sheet of corrugated paper board scored along the lines ID to facilitate the folding thereof to form a rear wall .II and two side walls I! hingedlyconnected 'along the scored lines It. At their front edges the side walls l2 are folded backwardly upon themselves at l3 and secured by wire stitches l3, thereby reinforcing said forward edges.
A cover member I also made of a sheet ofcorrugated paper board is scored along the line l5 adjacent its forward edge to form a downwardly folded securing flange it which is inserted in slots II provided in the 'upper reinforced edges of the side walls It as indicated and whereby said cover member will be adjustably secured to said side walls I! to hold the sheet in operative position as. indicated in Fig. 1.
If desired a motion picture screen l8 may be formed as indicated directly upon the rear wall II or where the screen is provided with a stand of its own it may be placed within the rear portion of the shade. A slot [9 is preferably provided centrally in the rear wall II to facilitate the attachment of certain types of motion picture screens as will be readily understood. Owing to the frictional engagement between the flange IS on the cover l4 and the slots H in the side walls i2, said side walls may be readily adjusted to diiferent angular positions as indicated in Fig. 3. The specific form and arrangement of parts is a simple and eflective one for the purpose.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying the invention into eiiect, these are capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the precise details disclosed but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A screen shade comprising a single sheet of material scored along parallel lines for bending to form rear and side walls hingedly connected together;' and a cover member consisting of a single sheet of material adapted to rest upon and cover the space between said walls and scored adjacent its forward end to form a downwardly bendable flange, there being slots in the upper edges of said side walls to receive said flange.
2. The construction specified in claim 1 in which the forward edges of the side walls are doubled back upon themselves and the slots extended through said doubled back edges.
3. A screen shade comprising a rear wall member; side members hingedly connected with the sides of said rear wall member; and a cover member resting on said wall members and provided at its forward portion with a downwardly extending flange, there being slots in the upper edges of said side walls to receive said flange.
JAMES C. GALLAGHER.
