Description

Jan. 1, 1924 I -1,479,423
A. DE '13. BARTON EDUCATIONAL DEVICE Filed Nov- 16 1922 Patented Jan. 1, 1924.
' ET E ALMA DE 13. BARTON, F LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
EDUCATIONAL DEVICE.
Application filed November 16, 1922. Serial No. 601,294.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALMA on B. BARTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Educational Devices, of which the following is a specitication.
This invention relates to educational appliances, and more particularly to means for facilitating the display of cards, charts, and other educational paraphernalia.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a device whereby charts, cards, and other objects of various sizes can be conspicuously displayed and readily mounted and removed for the clear exposition of the different subjects to classes.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device capable of being suspended in effective disclosing position and which can be compactly rolled or folded up. A. further object is to provide an efficient, practicable and substantial flexible exhibit holder that may be, upon necessity, laundered and thus kept clean and attractive. Another object is to provide an exhibit holder upon which objects may be readily mounted and arranged without positive fastenings, or the objects may be positively and securely attached as by pinning and otherwise.
Other objects and advantages will be made manifest in the following specification of an embodiment of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective of the exhibit holder in displayed position.
Fig. 2 is a perspective showing the rolled holder.
Fig. 3 is a perspective showing the folded dismantled holder.
Fig. 4 is a perspective and sectional view of a fragment of the holder.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is shown as consisting of a flexible sheet 2 which may be of stout fabric, such as canvas or other suitable material. Along the top and bottom of the sheet there is provided hems 3 into which may be slipped removable stiffening rods 4. These rods may be of any desired cross section as clearly shown in the drawings. The upper rod is adapted to receive suspending means, such as screw eyes 5 whereby the holder may be suspended in fully extended vertical position as upon screw hooks 6 or other supports.
To facilitate the mounting of various objects to be exhibited, there is applied to or formed along the sheet 2 a plurality of suitably spaced and preferably parallel holding lips 7 which may be applied to or formed on or of the sheet, as desired. In the present case the lips 7, are shown as consisting of longitudinally extending strips of fabric which are stitched along a medial longitudinal line at 8 to-the sheet 2, so that the strip forms upper and lower open grooves or channels 9 into which may be slipped objects or articles to be exhibited, such for instance as alphabetic cards 10 or picture cards 11.
It will be seen that by the present device it .is possible to mount readily and without extraneous fastening, if desired, objects or sheets, or cards, or charts of various dimensions, the lip or channel formingelements 7 providing substantial supporting means for receiving the objects to be exhibited.
It will be seen that when the device is made of washable material the reinforcing rods can be readily removed and the holder can be laundered and thus rendered neat.
and presentable again.
Further, it is possible when the device is out of use to roll it up compactly as in Fig. 2, or it may be overfolded to occupy smallest possible space by the removal of the rods as shown in Fig. 2. 7
Further embodiments, modifications and changes may be resorted to within the spirit of the invention as here claimed.
What is claimed is:
1. An educational device consisting of a pliant, backingless display sheet provided with a plurality of spaced elements forming pairs of spaced upper and lower horizontal channels or grooves into which may be slipped objects to be exhibited.
2. An educational device consisting of a pliant display sheet provided with a plurality of spaced pliant strips forming pairs of spaced upper and lower horizontal channels or grooves into which may be slipped objects to be exhibited.
3. An educational device consisting of a display sheet provided with a plurality of spaced parallel flexible pliant strips forming pairs of spaced upper and lower horizontal channels or grooves into which may he slipped objects to be exhibited.
4:. An educational device consisting of a display flexible sheet provided with a plurality-of spaced flexible strips stitched on medial lines and forming upper and lower horizontal channels or grooves into Which may be slipped objects to be exhibited. v
5. An educational device consisting of apliant sheet having parallel spaced'strips; forming pliant lips providing upper and lower horizontal channels for the reception of respective upper and lower edges of objects to be mounted upon the device. m
In testimonywhereof I have signed my name to this specification.
ALMA DE B. BARTON.
