SHOULDER STRAP FOR WOMEN'S UNDERGARMENTS Filed Aug. 16, '1955 .L uc lle E.Schma2z INVENTOR ATTORNEYS United States Patent SHOULDER STRAP FOR WOMENS UNDERGARMENTS Lucille E. Schmalz, 'St. Jacob, Ill.
Application August 16, 1955, Serial No. 528,667
1 Claim. (Cl. 2-323) This invention relates to shoulder strap construction especially designed for use in connection with slips, brassieres or similar undergarments, the primary object of the present invention being to provide a shoulder strap which will prevent the shoulder strap from becoming accidently unfastened.
An important object of the invention is to provide a strap of cloth material provided with eyelets of rigid construction secured thereto for the reception of the usual fastening hook, so that the hook may be readily held within an eyelet of the strip of cloth, thereby adding rigidity to the strip connecting means, insuring against accidental displacement of the hook positioned therein.
Another object of the invention is to provide a strip of cloth material having a line of spaced eyelets, the strip of cloth material being of a width equal to the width of the shoulder strap to which the strip of cloth material is secured, so that the eyelet strip may be secured along its marginal longitudinal edges to a shoulder strap, to the end that the eyelets of the added cloth strip are practically invisible, resulting in a neat appearing garment.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure l is a perspective view illustrating an eyelet constructed in accordance with the invention, as secured to the shoulder strap.
Fig. 2 is a fragmental plan view of the underside of a shoulder strap supplied with an eyelet strip.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line 44 of Fig. 2.
2,753,569 ?atented July 10, 1956 Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 indicates a brassiere and the reference character 6 indicates conventional shoulder straps of the brassiere and to which the eyelet strips forming the subject matter of the present invention are secured.
As better shown by Fig. 3 of the drawing, the eyelet strip, which is indicated by the reference character 7, is constructed of cloth material and is in strip form of a Width equal to the width of the shoulder strap to which the eyelet strip is secured. The eyelet strip is secured to the shoulder strap 6 by a line of stitching 8, the eyelet strip being secured to the under surface of the shoulder strap so that the eyelet strip 7 will be invisible when the undergarment to which the eyelet strip is secured is being worn. The eyelet strip is provided with a line of spaced eyelets or garments 9 which are constructed of suitable rigid material such as plastic or the like, to add rigidity to the eyelet strip. The shoulder strap is provided with a hook 10 at one end thereof, which hook is adapted to hook into an eyelet 9 to hold the shoulder strap with which the eyelet strip is connected in its adjusted position.
Because the eyelets are constructed of substantially rigid material, it will be obvious that the hooks will be held therein against accidental displacement.
It will further be seen that when the hook is positioned within an eyelet, the shoulder strap will provide a backing for the eyelet strip to completely conceal the hook 10.
The usual slide indicated at 11, is provided on the strip so that the length of the strap may be adjusted and held in its adjusted position by the slide.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
In an undergarment formed of a fabric body and a pair of shoulder straps, each strap comprising an elongated narrow fiexible strip fixed at one end to the rear of the garment, the other end of said strip being folded upon itself, a hook secured to said other end of said strip, a relatively short strip, stitching engaging about the marginal edges and the ends of said short strip securing said short strip to the inner side of said. first named strip, and grommets secured to said short strip for engagement with said hook, said hook and grommets being concealed in the outer side of said first named strip.
