The invention relates to a soil erosion control device and more particularly to a soil saver or flow water diverter.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein through the use of a plurality of sheet metal sections a shed can be erected about a tent to prevent Water and soil working inwardly at the floor area of said tent or eliminating soil erosion at a gully in that the natural water course will be diverted and in this manner obviating soil erosion, being also protective to ditches or the like.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the sections for diverting water flow can be readily set up in proper position so as to eliminate soil erosion and for diverting the course of the flow of water during a rainy period.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is simple in its make-up, thoroughly reliable and eifective in operation, convenient for. quick setup, and inexpensive tomanufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a campers tent set-up showing the device constructed in accordance with the invention and in operative association with said tent.
Figure 2 is atop plan view showing a water gully with the device set up in operative relation thereto.
Figure 3 is a .plan view of a blank from which one of the sections of the device is made.
Figure 4 is an elevation of a section of the device.
Figure 5 is an end elevation thereof.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, particularly Figure 1, A designates generally a set up tent for a camper while B denotes generally the device for preventing soil erosion and constituting the present invention.
The device B is composed of a determined number of sheet metal sections l0, each being made from a substantially rectangular shaped flat blank 4 i of sheet metal.
This blank II of sheet metal longitudinally thereof is bent to provide a lower straight anchoring edge or flange l2 and an outwardly and upwardly curved upper water shed portion [3 offset with respect to the edge or flange l2 and creating 6 at the bight l4 an impact or driving ledge I5 exteriorly of the section l0.
These sections ii) are adapted to be set up outside of the tent A at the end of the latter confronting the slope of the ground and along opposite sides of said tent by forcing the edges or flanges l2 into the soil to have ends of the said sections adjacent to each other in a stepped overlapped relation one to the other and the portions l3 upstanding to the extent of the height thereof from the ground surface so that water flowing in the direction of the slope lay of the ground will be diverted from a. natural course in the direction of the tent A laterally to opposite sides and away from the same so that in this manner the water will not seep into the floor area of such tent nor will soil erosion occur next to the tent and particularly from the higher lay of the soil without the same.
In Figure 2 of the drawing a ditch or gully C is represented and about the blind end thereof and along the sides or banks are set up the plurality of sections 10, these being arranged similarly to their arrangement in Figure l and avoid through water flow soil erosion at the ditch or gully C. 1 The blind end of the ditch or gully C is located at the flow side of the water over the ground or soil and in advance of this blind end the water flow is diverted from its natural course to beyond the banks or sides of the said ditch or gully. In this manner there is avoided any further washout at the gully or ditch course C and soil erosion with the result that the said gully or ditch can be planted with grass seed with the result that the planting will be protected.
The sections l0, when set up and related to each other in the manner as shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing, afford a water shed or water diverter for the elimination of soil erosion at any particular or determined area.
It is possible to drive the edge or flange E2 of each section It] into the ground by exerting pressure or hammer blows at the edge l5 formed by the bight M between the said edge or flange l2 and the portion l3 of this section 10.
The device in the working assures protection to a determined ground area and to ditches or gullies for eliminating or preventing soil erosion either before or after such erosion takes place.
What is claimed is:
1. A structure of the character described com prising a plurality of sections in echelon arrangement with respect to each other and overlapped at their meeting ends, each formed from a single sheet of material having rigidity, and a longitudinally directed bight in each section for efiecting a laterally ofi-set upper portion with respect to its lower portion constituting an anchoring flange.
2. A structure of the character described comprising a plurality of sections, each formed from a single sheet of material having rigidity, and a longitudinally direct-ed bight in each section for effecting a laterally oiT-set upper portion with respect to its lower portion constituting an anchoring flange, the said bight forming astriking area a striking area for driving the lower portion into the ground to form an anchor.
