IM PROVEMENT IN NEEDLE-WRAPPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 203,958, dated May 21, 1878; application filed May 4, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN M. THOMAS, of Brooklyn, Kings county, State of N ewYork, have invented a new and Improved Wrapper for Sewing and Knitting Needles, of which the following is a specification:
- In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents aperspective view of my improved wrapper for sewing and knitting needles, and Fig. 2 is a top view of the blank from which the wrapper is made. Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish for sewing and knitting needles an improved Wrapper by which'they are inclosed in neat and convenient manner, the wrapper being readily opened for inspecting the needles without removing them therefrom, and quickly closed again, so that the needles may be conveniently shipped and handled; and the invention consists of a needle-wrapper made of a re-e'nforced blank, withbottom closing-flap,
longer side flaps, having transverse slits, up-
per shorter side flaps, and a closing top flap or ifzlongue, that fits into the slits of the lower side aps. r V a Referring to the drawing, A represents my improved wrapper for sewing and-. knittin g needles, which is made of a size corresponding to the size of the needles, and made of ablank, B, (shown in Fig. 2,) which is re-enforced by a layer of muslin or other fabric at the bottom and side flaps, so as tofurnish a strong and durable inclosure for the needles.
The blank B is cut with a short bottom flap, a, and lower side flapsb, which are provided with transverse slits b and connected by the needle ends to view. The wrapper is closed by foldingthe flaps 01 over the ends ofthe needles, and bringing then a top flap, 0, down over the-upper flaps d, the tongue of the top flap being inserted into the slits of the lower side flaps. The sewing and knitting needles are in this manner securely inclosed for shipment and sale, but instantly available, either forinspection or use, by opening the top flap and upper side flaps. Thus a neat and convenient Wrapper, that is especially adapted for knitting-needles, is furnished, which protects them, in superior manner, against rusting, and admits of their convenient handling by the trade. 7
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A Wrapper for sewing and knitting needles, made of a r'e-enforced blank, with a bottom flap, lower transversely-slitted side flaps, upper folding side flaps, and a closing top flap and tongue, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
