Description

Amm@ 2lb @36 T. @gaab@ CRIBBAGE BOARD Filed July 20, 1955 I nuenior f m Patented Apr. 21, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CRIBBAGE BOARD ford, Mass.
Application July 20, 1935, Serial No. 32,424
2 Claims.
This invention relates to a cribbage board, the general object of the invention being to provide the board with a movable center to carry the holes for the pegs, means for normally holding the center flush with the rest of the board and with the tops of the pegs ilush with the upper face of the center, with means whereby the center can be depressed to project the pegs so that they can be readily grasped and removed from the holes.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in Which:-
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the improved board.
Figure 2 is a similar view with the center piece removed.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view showing the center depressed to enable the pegs to be readily grasped and removed from the hole.
In this drawing the numeral l indicates the board which is of elongated rectangular shape and has an elongated rectangular-shaped opening 2 in its center across which extend the elastic bands 3, the ends of which t in slots 4 formed in the side Walls of the opening 2, said ends being secured to the upper walls of the slots by the tacks 5. As shown in Figure 4 the bands are flush with the center piece 6 when the same is in raised position to hold said center piece with the upper face flush with the upper face of the board l. This center piece carries the vertically arranged holes 'l for receiving the pegs 8, the upper ends of the holes being countersunk as shown. A bottom board 9 extends across the under face of the board l and is suitably secured thereto and the central portion of this board forms a rest for the lower ends of the pins.
Thus it will be seen that the resilient bands normally hold the center piece 6 ush with the board I and with the upper ends of the pegs ilush with the upper face of the center piece so that the pegs will not interfere with the playing face of the board I and the center piece 6. However, when it is desired to remove a peg all that is necessary is to press upon the center piece so as to lower it as shown in Figure 5 and as the lower ends of the pegs are resting upon the bottom board the pegs will not move and thus will project from the center piece so that they can be readily pulled from the holes.
Headed tacks I0 are inserted into the top of the board I adjacent the corners of the opening 2 with portions of the heads engaging the center piece for preventing the center piece from moving upwardly beyond the position where its upper face is flush with the upper face of the 15 board l.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be 20 made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:- 25
1. A device of the class described comprising a board having a centrally arranged opening therein, a bottom piece closing the lower end of the opening, a member fitting in the opening and having holes therein, means for normally holding 30 the hole carrying member in raised position and permitting the member to be lowered and pins for iitting in the holes and of a length to have their upper ends ilush with the upper face of the hole carrying member while the lower ends rest 35 upon the bottom piece whereby the pins will project from the holes when the hole carrying member is depressed.
2. A device of the class described comprising a board having a centrally arranged opening 40 therein, a second board of less thickness than the first board fitting in the opening and having a plurality of pins receiving holes therein, resilient bands extending across the openings and upon which the hole bearing board rests, stop means for normally holding the hole carrying board with its upper face flush with the upper face of the first board, a bottom board and pins for tting in the holes and of a length whereby their upper ends will be flush with the upper face of the hole carrying board when the same is in raised position and while their lower ends engage the bottom board.
