- The disclosure relates to music games and more particularly pertains to a new music game for playing a game comprising selecting songs in predetermined categories and rating them.
- The prior art relates to music games which provide means for voting on selected songs to determine a winner of the music game. However, the prior art does not disclose a music game which uses a plurality of cards with categories of songs indicated on the cards for selecting categories of music, a music player for playing a song belonging to the selected category as determined by a selecting player of a plurality of game players, and recording scores corresponding to player ratings of the selected songs for determining a winner.
- An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a music player being configured to access and play one of a plurality of songs when a select actuation is initiated with the music player, the accessed and played song defining a selected song. Each of a plurality of cards has one of the categories indicated thereon, and a drawn card of the plurality of cards determines a previously determined category. A score table comprises a plurality of cells arranged in a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns which is configured for tracking a number of rounds of the game, a score for each of a plurality of game players in each round, and a total score.
- There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
- The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.
- The disclosure will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:
-
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a music game according to an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 2 is a top view of a dry erase board of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 3 is a top and bottom view of a plurality of cards of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of a folded dry erase board of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 5 is a top view of a dry erase board of an embodiment of the disclosure. - With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to
FIGS. 1 through 5 thereof, a new music game embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by thereference numeral 10 will be described. - As best illustrated in
FIGS. 1 through 5 , themusic game 10 generally comprises amusic player 12 configured to access and play one of a plurality of songs when a select actuation is initiated with themusic player 12, the accessed and played song defining a selected song. The plurality of songs is distributed within a plurality of categories, wherein the selected song is chosen from a previously determined one of the categories. Each category may be a defined genre of music. Themusic player 12 has an internet connection for accessing the plurality of songs and a microphone for initiating the select actuation, wherein the select actuation includes one of a plurality of game players audibly instructing themusic player 12 to play the selected song. Themusic player 12 is in communication with a plurality of music services to access the plurality of songs. The music player may also be configured to be in signal communication with aspeaker 14 for playing the selected song, and may additionally be configured to wirelessly transmit the selected song to thespeaker 14. - Each of a plurality of
cards 16 has one of the categories indicated on afront side 18 of thecard 16, wherein the previously determined category used during the select actuation is identified by the category indicated on a drawn one of the plurality ofcards 16. A score table 20 comprises a plurality ofcells 22 arranged in a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns. The plurality ofcells 22 is configured for tracking a number of rounds of the game, a score for each of the plurality of game players in each round, a title of the selected song for each of a plurality of player turns, and a total score. The score table 20 may be integrated onto adry erase board 24, printed onto a paper sheet in a pad of paper sheets, or the like. If integrated onto adry erase board 24, thedry erase board 24 may be foldable for storage, and themusic game 10 may further comprise adry erase marker 26 for tracking the scores for each of the plurality of game players in each round. - In use, the
music game 10 is played in a series of rounds, each round comprising a consecutive series of the plurality of player turns. Each of the plurality of game players takes one of the plurality of player turns, during which the game player is defined as a selecting player and each of a remaining set of at least one game player is defined as a rating player. During each player turn, the selecting player attempts to access and play one of the plurality of songs belonging to the previously determined category on themusic player 12 within a predetermined time period. - If the selecting player fails to access and play a song belonging to the previously determined category within the predetermined time period, the selecting player receives a score for the player turn totaling zero points. If the selecting player successfully accesses and plays one of the plurality of songs belonging to the previously determined category within the predetermined time period, the title of the selected song is recorded in a
corresponding cell 22 in the score table 20 and each of the rating players provide a rating to the selected song. The rating is made on a scale from zero to three, wherein a zero-rating indicates a least favorable view of the selected song and a three-rating indicates a most favorable view of the selected song. The score for the player turn equals the sum of all of the ratings provided to the selected song for the player turn. The score for the selecting player for the round is then recorded in thecorresponding cell 22 in the score table 20. - After the series of rounds is completed, all of the scores for each player turn for each player are summed to determine each of a plurality of total scores for each game player. The game player with the greatest total score wins the
music game 10. - With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
- Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
