Application February 11, 1935, Serial No. 5,977 1 Claim. (mesa-25s) The object of the present invention is to provide a cheap and simple means of retaining bracing bars in the slots of fins mounted upon heat exchanger conduits. A further object is the reinforcement of finned coil end plates and especially so at their points of suspension.

Figure 2 is an elevational view of a slotted fin.
Figure 3 is an elevational end view of a cooling unit embodying the invention.
Figure 4 is an elevational side view'of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawing:
InFigure 1, the plate I has slots 2 and holes 3 in its fiat portion. Around the outer edges of plate I are upturned portions 4. The nearest upturned portion 4 has fold backs 5, through which, and the adjacent portions of the fiat portion of the plate I, holes 6 pass.
In Figure 2, the fin 1 has a bore 8 and slots 9.
In Figures 3 and 4, afiuid circuit conduit has a plurality of parallel reaches I0 in banked rela- .tionship, the individual parallel reaches being joined'by return bends I I, which project through the slots 2 of the end plates I, defining the end limits of the finned portion of the coil.
The parallel reaches II), have a number of fins I mounted thereon and in intimate heat transfer relationship therewith. The slots 9 in the fins I frictionally engage bracing bars I2, which extend beyond the individual end fins of the parallel reaches. The extensions of the bracing bars I2 are embraced by the upturned portions 4 of the end plates I, thereby retaining the bracing bars I2 in the slots 9 of the fins I. 5
The bracing bars in the center of the coil are retained within their respective slots due to the nested relationship of the coil.
"The holes 6 in the end plates I are for the purpose of engaging hanger support means for the 10 assembly.
The upturned portions 4, of the end plates I, serve as reinforcements, whereby equivalent rigidity may be obtained with a thinner material than could normally be obtained without such re- 15 inforcement.
