- The disclosure and prior art relates to bed covering devices and more particularly pertains to a new bed covering device for which allows access to a portion of a mattress such that articles may be placed into a well extending into the mattress.
- An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a panel that is comprised of cloth material and has top side, a bottom side and a perimeter edge. The perimeter edge includes a first end edge, a second end edge, a first lateral edge and a second lateral edge. The top side has an opening therein configured to allow a housing to be extended through the panel. An outer perimeter wall of cloth material is coextensively attached to and extends downwardly from the perimeter edge. The panel and outer perimeter wall form a covering that is positionable on a mattress such that the opening exposes a well in the mattress.
- There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
- The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.
- The disclosure will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:
-
FIG. 1 is a top perspective view of a mattress cover assembly according to an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 2 is a bottom perspective view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 3 is a rear view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 4 is a front view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 5 is a side view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 6 is a top view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 7 is a bottom view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 8 is a bottom perspective view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 9 is a top perspective view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 10 is a top perspective view of an embodiment of the disclosure. - With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to
FIGS. 1 through 10 thereof, a new bed covering device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by thereference numeral 10 will be described. - As best illustrated in
FIGS. 1 through 10 , themattress cover assembly 10 generally comprises apanel 12 that is comprised of cloth material and hastop side 14, abottom side 16 and aperimeter edge 18. Theperimeter edge 18 includes afirst end edge 20, asecond end edge 22, a firstlateral edge 24 and a secondlateral edge 26. Thetop side 14 has anopening 30 therein configured to allow ahousing 70 to be extended through thepanel 12. Thehousing 70 may be extended through thepanel 12 such that it is retained within a well 72 in amattress 74 upon which thepanel 12 is positioned. The opening 30 has a geometric shape and in particular will typically have a rectangular shape. Theopening 30 is spaced from the first 24 and second 26 lateral edges and may be equally spaced from the first 24 and second 26 lateral edges. Typically, the opening 30 will be adjacent to thefirst end edge 20, which will align generally with a head of themattress 74, so that the opening 30 is within 1.5 feet of thefirst end edge 20. While the opening 30 may be spaced from thefirst end edge 20, it may instead be extended into thefirst end edge 20 such that it forms a “notch” in thefirst end edge 20 as is shown inFIG. 1 . Thepanel 12 may have any required size, but typically the panel will have a length and width to cover a standard mattress and thus will be sized depending on the size of the mattress, most typically a queen size, king size or California king size. - An
outer perimeter wall 32 is coextensively attached to and extends downwardly from theperimeter edge 18. Theouter perimeter wall 32 comprises a cloth material. Thepanel 12 and theouter perimeter wall 32 comprise a unitary structure and the cloth material may comprise any conventional material used for mattress protectors, mattress pads and bed sheets, for example. - A securing
member 34 may be attached to abottom edge 36 of theouter perimeter wall 32. The securingmember 34 is configured to releasably secure theouter perimeter wall 34 to themattress 74. Thesecuring member 34 may include a plurality ofstraps 38, such as shown inFIG. 2 , attached to and extending between various points along abottom edge 36 of theouter perimeter wall 32. Thestraps 38 would be positioned under themattress 74 and would typically be comprised of a resiliently stretchable material to pull thepanel 12 tight against a top side of themattress 74. Alternatively, thesecuring member 34, as shown inFIG. 8 , may include a resilientlystretchable material 40 being attached to and extending along thebottom edge 36 as shown inFIG. 8 and would be conventional to fitted sheets and mattress pads used to hold such securely to a mattress. - An
inner perimeter wall 42 is coextensively attached to and extends downwardly from anopening edge 44 in thepanel 12. Theopening edge 44 at least partially bounds the opening 30 in thepanel 12. Thus, theopening edge 44 may only include three sides if the opening 30 extends into thefirst end edge 20 or four sides should the opening 30 be spaced from thefirst end edge 20. Theinner perimeter wall 42 comprises a cloth material and will form a unitary structure with theouter perimeter wall 32 and thepanel 12. Should theopening 30 extend into thefirst end edge 20, theinner perimeter wall 42 will join theouter perimeter wall 32 atjunctures 46 of theopening edge 44 and thefirst end edge 20 such that theinner perimeter wall 42 and theouter perimeter wall 32 form a continuous wall as can be seen inFIG. 2 . Also shown inFIG. 2 , should the securingmember 34 comprise a plurality ofstraps 38, at least some of thestraps 38 may be attached to and extended between theouter perimeter wall 32 and theinner perimeter wall 42. - It should be understood that while the
assembly 10 may be a fitted bed sheet, it may also comprise a mattress pad, bed protector or the like. Additionally, there may multiple ones of theassemblies 10 utilized simultaneously wherein, for example, oneassembly 10 is a mattress pad and another is a bed sheet. -
FIG. 10 includes an embodiment wherein a flap 48 is attached to thepanel 12 for the purpose of covering the opening 30. This flap 48 may or may not be attachable to thehousing 70 and may not be needed should an outer covering of thehousing 70 match thepanel 12. - In use, the
assembly 10 is used in a generally conventional fashion to protect amattress 74 and serve as a barrier between a user of themattress 74 and the mattress outer surface. However, the opening 30 allows ahousing 70 to be placed in a discreet manner within a person's bed while providing for an overall function and appearance of a conventional bed. - With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
- Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
