There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
  • The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.

  • FIG. 1 is a top perspective view of a mattress cover assembly according to an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 2 is a bottom perspective view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 3 is a rear view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 4 is a front view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 5 is a side view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 6 is a top view of an embodiment of the disclosure.

  • FIG. 8 is a bottom perspective view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 9 is a top perspective view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 10 is a top perspective view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 10 thereof, a new bed covering device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.
  • As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 10, the mattress cover assembly 10 generally comprises a panel 12 that is comprised of cloth material and has top side 14, a bottom side 16 and a perimeter edge 18. The perimeter edge 18 includes a first end edge 20, a second end edge 22, a first lateral edge 24 and a second lateral edge 26. The top side 14 has an opening 30 therein configured to allow a housing 70 to be extended through the panel 12. The housing 70 may be extended through the panel 12 such that it is retained within a well 72 in a mattress 74 upon which the panel 12 is positioned. The opening 30 has a geometric shape and in particular will typically have a rectangular shape. The opening 30 is spaced from the first 24 and second 26 lateral edges and may be equally spaced from the first 24 and second 26 lateral edges. Typically, the opening 30 will be adjacent to the first end edge 20, which will align generally with a head of the mattress 74, so that the opening 30 is within 1.5 feet of the first end edge 20. While the opening 30 may be spaced from the first end edge 20, it may instead be extended into the first end edge 20 such that it forms a “notch” in the first end edge 20 as is shown in FIG. 1. The panel 12 may have any required size, but typically the panel will have a length and width to cover a standard mattress and thus will be sized depending on the size of the mattress, most typically a queen size, king size or California king size.
  • An outer perimeter wall 32 is coextensively attached to and extends downwardly from the perimeter edge 18. The outer perimeter wall 32 comprises a cloth material. The panel 12 and the outer perimeter wall 32 comprise a unitary structure and the cloth material may comprise any conventional material used for mattress protectors, mattress pads and bed sheets, for example.
  • A securing member 34 may be attached to a bottom edge 36 of the outer perimeter wall 32. The securing member 34 is configured to releasably secure the outer perimeter wall 34 to the mattress 74. The securing member 34 may include a plurality of straps 38, such as shown in FIG. 2, attached to and extending between various points along a bottom edge 36 of the outer perimeter wall 32. The straps 38 would be positioned under the mattress 74 and would typically be comprised of a resiliently stretchable material to pull the panel 12 tight against a top side of the mattress 74. Alternatively, the securing member 34, as shown in FIG. 8, may include a resiliently stretchable material 40 being attached to and extending along the bottom edge 36 as shown in FIG. 8 and would be conventional to fitted sheets and mattress pads used to hold such securely to a mattress.
  • An inner perimeter wall 42 is coextensively attached to and extends downwardly from an opening edge 44 in the panel 12. The opening edge 44 at least partially bounds the opening 30 in the panel 12. Thus, the opening edge 44 may only include three sides if the opening 30 extends into the first end edge 20 or four sides should the opening 30 be spaced from the first end edge 20. The inner perimeter wall 42 comprises a cloth material and will form a unitary structure with the outer perimeter wall 32 and the panel 12. Should the opening 30 extend into the first end edge 20, the inner perimeter wall 42 will join the outer perimeter wall 32 at junctures 46 of the opening edge 44 and the first end edge 20 such that the inner perimeter wall 42 and the outer perimeter wall 32 form a continuous wall as can be seen in FIG. 2. Also shown in FIG. 2, should the securing member 34 comprise a plurality of straps 38, at least some of the straps 38 may be attached to and extended between the outer perimeter wall 32 and the inner perimeter wall 42.
  • It should be understood that while the assembly 10 may be a fitted bed sheet, it may also comprise a mattress pad, bed protector or the like. Additionally, there may multiple ones of the assemblies 10 utilized simultaneously wherein, for example, one assembly 10 is a mattress pad and another is a bed sheet.
  • FIG. 10 includes an embodiment wherein a flap 48 is attached to the panel 12 for the purpose of covering the opening 30. This flap 48 may or may not be attachable to the housing 70 and may not be needed should an outer covering of the housing 70 match the panel 12.
  • In use, the assembly 10 is used in a generally conventional fashion to protect a mattress 74 and serve as a barrier between a user of the mattress 74 and the mattress outer surface. However, the opening 30 allows a housing 70 to be placed in a discreet manner within a person's bed while providing for an overall function and appearance of a conventional bed.
  • With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
