albertogrisaeano, ronkrsf; N. Y. 7 ApplicationSeptember-29, No. 743,126 7 I 1 i ix ig ei- The invention relates to a device by means of, which a spinning or rolling toy may be'rotated andfrom which the toy may be released so asrto spin or rollby. itself. It has for itsmain object to provide a device whichcan be used with a great many toys of this type and in which the releasemay be positivelyland practically instantaneously effected without slowing down the speed which has been imparted to the toy. An other object is to. provide a device which-can be used with such toys without the exercising of any great skill in attaching it or in manipulating it. A further object is toprovide a device of very simple and inexpensive construction.
This and various other objects and advantages will be readily understood from the following description and from the accompanying drawing of a preferred embodiment of the invention in which, however, modification may be made-without departing from the scope of the invention.
in the present instance a spinning top I0, having a spindle II' which extends to both sides of the disc, hasbeen selected to illustrate the device. Two openings l2 and I3 are provided in the disc of the top.
The device itself consists of two side plates I4 and IE to each of which a looped" cord I6 and I1 is secured. The .sideplates are also providedwith snap fastening members. In the present case the female parts I8 are'shown attached to the plate V I4, while the male parts I9 are shown attached to the plate I5.
When it is desired to impart rotary motion to the top, the snap fasteners are inserted through a the openings I2 and I3 and snapped together sothat. the'plates I4 and I5 are located on and clamped against each side of the disc of thetop. Circular openings 20 being provided in the plates to accompany the ends of the spindle II. operator now inserts his fingers in the outer loops of the cords I6 and I1 and twirls the top, the cords will be twisted as shownon the drawing.
By alternately pulling on the cords and relaxing I the pull a great speed may be imparted'to the top, in the manner well known'tothe art.
If the ,,hen .the required. been obtained, an additional million the cord-will causethe snapfastenerst to separate'and thus release." the top,
as illustrated in"Fi'g...2-- In this instance, the .top 1 fall tothe floonand roll alongson its edge..
' It. will besen, that'if-rd-tative motion is impartedtoi the: top 'andithe' top andthecordsare held as shown in Fig, 1 that when thetop is re- V leased, it will alight on the end of its spindle and thus spin on the floor.
It will be evident to those skilled in the art that a great many difierent kinds of spinning and rolling toys may be used with this.device.- It will v limit the device to any "particular kind of top or e I toy, but to employ it with any device to which it may be found adaptable. 1
Having described my invention and its objects, what I claim as new and wish to protect by Letters Patent is:
l. In combination with a circular disc having a plurality of openings spaced equi-distant from cured to one side of each of said side plates, members of snap fastening devices secured to the other sides of said plates, said snap fastening members 1 insertible through the openings in said disc and engageable with each other so as to clamp the disc while it is being rotatedby the manipulation of the looped cords; the snap fastening members being of smaller diameter than the openings in. the circular. disc so that the disc is held solely by the clampingaction its sides.
35. of the side plates against j Y 2. In combination with a circulardisc having aplurality of openings spaced equidistant from its center, a pair of side plates, a looped cord see cured to one side of each of said side plates with its attached ends spaced a considerable distance apart, members of snap fastening devices secured to the other side of said plates, said snap fasten:- 4
ing members insertible through the openings in said disc and engageable' with each other so as to clamp the disc while it is being rotated by the manipulation of the looped cords; the snap fastening members being of smaller diameter than 3. In combination with a spinning tophaving a spindle and a body member provided with a plu- 25 its center, apair of side plates, a looped cord se- 'rality of openings, a pair of side .platesQone of said plates having acentral opening for accommodating the spindle of the; top, a looped cord secured to one side of each of said side plates,v
members of snap fasteningdevices secured to the other side of said plates, said snap fastening members insertable through the openings in saidbody member and engageable with each other so as to clamp the top while it is being rotated by the manipulationof the looped cords; the snap fastening members being of smaller diameter than the openings in the spinning top so that the top said side'plates, members of snap fastening devices secured to the-otherside of said p1ates, 'said' snap fastening. members insertible through: the
openings in said body member 'and engageable with each other so 'asflto clamp 'the toywhile it j is being. rotated by the manipulation oi the looped cords; the snap'fastening' members being of smaller diameter. than the openings the spinning toy so that'the toy is'held solely by the clamping action of the side plates against its sides.
5; In-combination with a'circular disc having a plurality of openings placed equi-distant from its center, a pair of side plates, a looped cord se-' cured to one side of each ,of said side plates,
means for clamping the side plates against the sides of the disc, said means being insertable through cthe openings in the circular disc and being separ'a'table by a pull on the cords, and said means being of smaller size than the openings in the disc so that the disc will be held by the clamping action of the .side'plates only.
-6."In combination with a spinning top having a plurality of openings placed equi-distant from its center, a pair of side plates, said side plates having central openings for accommodating the spindles of the top, a looped cord secured to one side .ofeach of said side plates, means for clamping the "side plates against the sides of the top,
said means'beinginsertable through-the openings in -the top and-being separatablebya'pull on the cords, and said means being of smaller sizes than the openings in the top so that the top will be held by the clamping action of the side plates only.
