Further, said invention hasfor its object to provide an adjustable joint construction which may be interposed between the edges of a bath tub, lavatory, sink or otherstructure, and which may be readily conformed to the contour of'the article to which it is applied to form a fluid-tight joint. Further, said invention 'has for its object to provide a joint which may be conveniently secured to the edge. or rim of abathtub; sink or other structure, and be capable of receiving the lower edge of an adjacent wall portion-of a room insuch manner as to compensate for, any irregularities in the surface of the article, andfor any variations which may be initiallypresent or subse'--.

Further, said invention has for its-object to provide a joint having a pliable molding member which may be easily co'nformed to the contour of the bath tub or article with whichiit contacts, and then secured to adjusted position with a portion of the adjacent wall of; the splash board embraced between the molding member and the means for securing the .same to the bath tub or other article.

Other objects will in part be obvious, and in part be hereinafter described.

To the attainment of the aforesaid objects and 7 ends my invention consists in the novel features of construction, and in the combination, connection and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and then pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawing Figure l is a front elevation of a bath tub with one form of joint applied thereto embodying my said invention;

In said drawing ID designates a bath tub of well-known general form having a laterally projecting rim portion 1 I along its upper edges, and

In--the drawing the splaslr board. 23 is shown formed of sheet metal comprising a vertical wall portion 23 having a rearwardly and downwardly extending flange 24 at its upper rear end, and having the free lower end of its front wall portion 23* received by the longitudinal channel 22 formed between the quadrant-shaped portion I 4 of the molding I3 and the vertical flange 2|, in such a way that if the rear edge or rim of the bath tub should sink slightly the parts will give and permit the molding l3 to sink accordingly without becoming disengaged from the lower edge of the wall of the splash board 23, or permit the entire splash board 23 or the front wall thereof to which it is attached, as the case may be, to drop slightly and enter further into the channel 22.

To secure the several parts of the joint to adjusted position the horizontal lower portion IQ of each clamping member I! is provided with a screw 25 which engages with the underside of the rim or flange ll of the tub, and thereby serves to draw the upper end 20 of the clamping member l1, and the base M of the molding strip I3 down against the upper side of the rim or flange of the tub and hold the parts firmly secured together.

jzn onse 5 It is to be understood, of course, that the clamping member ll may be of any desired. width, and that any number thereof may be employed to secure the finishing strip or molding l3 in position between the rim or flange H of the tub or other article and the splash board or wall portion adjacent thereto.

Having thus described my said invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A water-tight joint for bath tubs and similar articles comprising a recessed molding adapted for support upon the flange of a bath tub or the like, and clamping means engaging the rear edge of said molding and the edge of the bath tub; said clamping means extending only partway over the rear edge of said molding to provide a channel extending longitudinally of the molding for receiving the lower edge of an adjacent wall portion.

2. A water-tight joint for bath tubs and similar articles comprising a molding having a rearwardly projecting recessed portion along its upper rear edge, and clamping means engaging the rearwardly projecting portion of said molding and the edge of the bath tub; said clamping means extending forwardly partway only over the rear edge of the rearwardly projecting portion of said molding to provide a channel extending longitudinally of the molding for receiving therein the lower edge of an adjacent wall portion.

3. A Water-tight joint for bath tubs, and similar articles comprising a pliable molding having a rearwardly projecting recessed portion along its upper rear edge, and clamping means engaging the rearwardly projecting portion of said molding and the edge of the bath tub; said clamping means extending forwardly partway only over the rear edge of the rearwardly-projecting portion of said molding to provide a channel extending longitudinally of the molding for receiving therein the lower edge of an adjacent wall portion.

4. A water-tight joint for bath tubs and similar articles comprising a molding adapted to rest upon and conform to the upper edge of the rim of the tub or other article and having a front portion provided with a vertical rear side and a portion extending horizontally rearwardly from said front portion, a clamping member embracing the rearwardly extending portion of said molding and said bath tub rim, and means carried by said clamping member and adapted to engage with the underside of the rim of the bath tub for securing said parts to adjusted position; said clamping means having a portion extending only partway over the rear edge of said molding to provide a channel between the same and the front portion of said molding extending longitudinally of the molding for receiving therein the lower edge of an adjacent wall portion.

5. A water-tight joint for bath tubs and similar articles comprising a pliable molding adapted to rest upon and conform to the upper side of the rim of a bath tub or other article, said molding having a front portion provided with a vertical rear side and a base portion extending horizontally rearwardly from said front portion and provided with a forwardly and downwardly sloping upper surface, a substantially U-shaped clamping member having an upper end extending downwardly and forwardly and terminating in a vertical flange disposed parallel to but spaced from the vertical rear edge of the front portion of said molding to form a longitudinal channel therebetween, a forwardly extending lower edge disposed below the rim of said bath tub, and a screw extending through said lower edge and engaging the underside of said bath tub rim.

6. A water-tight joint for bath tubs and simi lar articles comprising a pliable molding adapted to rest upon and conform to the upper side of the rim of a bath tub or other article, said molding having a front portion provided with a vertical rear side and a base portion extending horizontally rearwardly from said front portion and provided with a forwardly and downwardly sloping upper surface, a substantially U-shaped clamping member having an upper end extending downwardly and forwardly and terminating in a vertical flange disposed parallel to but spaced from the vertical rear edge of the front portion of said molding to form a longitudinal channel therebetween, a forwardly extending lower edge disposed below the rim of said bath tub, a screw extending through said lower edge and engaging the underside of said bath tub rim for securing said molding to said bath tub rim, and a splash board having the lower edge of its vertical wall portion loosely disposed within said longitudinal recess.
