Abstract

A cosmetic lip symbol and design applicator having protruding symbols and design patterns embedded into the rod of the applicator which produces a non-permanent imprinted design on the lip surface. The applicator has a corresponding cylindrical encasement which contains liquid or semi-liquid cosmetic material in a reservoir within the encasement. A preferred embodiment includes a roller-type mechanism at the base of the applicator and a wiping mechanism that is integrated into the orifice of the encasement.

Description

  • This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application Ser. No. 61/217,520, filed Jun. 1, 2009 as the priority for this Non-Provisional Utility Patent Application.
  • FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • This invention relates generally to the field of devices for applying cosmetic products to the lips, and more particularly for applying non-permanent symbols and designs to the lips for cosmetic or fashion purposes.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • Cosmetic lip applicators are available in many applications in a wide variety of embodiments and materials, such as plastic, silicon or aluminum based materials. These may include, for example lip sticks, lip glosses, lip balms and others. Some lip products may be applied by a brush or finger, many more are dispensed through the use of a lip applicator in the form of a stick or rod mechanism that protracts or retracts the lip product from the base of the container. Other products utilize a device that pushes liquid or semi-liquid material through an applicator which is then applied to the lip surface. Yet another current application utilizes a container and rod system that allows for the product to be applied to the lips with a porous sponge or brush, much like a mascara brush is used for the eyes. All of these application systems allow for various methods for applying cosmetic product to the lips for the purposes of color, gloss, moisturization, wiping, rolling, etc., but the prior art does not provide a means for the application of lip fluid or semi-fluid products to the lip surface in the form of symbols, designs or patterns.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The primary object of the invention is to provide a new and improved cosmetic lip applicator with protruding symbols and design patterns embedded into the rod of the applicator which produces a non-permanent imprinted design on the lip surface.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide a roller-type applicator rod that rolls over the lip surface or spins easily at the base of the rod allowing for a more precise application and more finely detailed design.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide an evenly and fastidiously distributed amount of liquid or semi-liquid material onto the applicator rod as it is being removed from the encasement.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide a compact, cylindrical encasement that is more convenient, stylish and less-messy than a stamp and pad system of applying cosmetic products.
  • A further object of the invention is to provide a cosmetic lip symbol and design applicator that is durable and highly reliable.
  • Yet another object of the invention is to provide a cosmetic lip symbol and design applicator that has a minimum number of discrete parts and is inexpensive to manufacture.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following descriptions, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein, by way of illustration and example, an embodiment of the present invention is disclosed. The drawings constitute a part of this specification and include exemplary embodiments to the invention, which may be embodied in various forms. It is to be understood that in some instances various aspects of the invention may be shown exaggerated or enlarged to facilitate an understanding of the invention.
  • FIG. 1 is a side view of the invention with the applicator rod removed from the encasement. FIG. 1 also depicts a front perspective view of the rolling mechanism of the applicator rod.
  • FIG. 2 is a side view of the invention encasement. FIG. 2 also depicts a front perspective view of the wiping orifice that is integrated into the encasement.
  • FIG. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the invention that depicts the applicator of FIG. 1 enclosed in the encasement of FIG. 2.
  • FIG. 4 is a frontal view of a finished design imprint on the surface of the lips.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
  • Detailed descriptions of the preferred embodiment are provided herein. It is to be understood, however, that the present invention may be embodied in various forms. Therefore, specific details disclosed herein are not to be interpreted as limiting, but rather as a basis for the claims and as a representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art to employ the present invention in virtually any appropriately detailed system, structure or manner.
  • Preferred exemplary embodiments of the present invention will hereafter be described in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and description that follows. It will be understood that the details provided herein is for illustration purposes only and that the subject invention is not so limited.
  • As illustrated in FIG. 1, there is a lip applicator rod 2 that has a roller-type mechanism 1 at the base of rod. The lip applicator rod contains protruding symbols or design patterns 2 that are embedded in the lip applicator rod 2. The liquid or semi-liquid material is then applied to the lip surface. The cap to the encasement is integrated into the lip applicator rod 1 and is sealed by either a threaded connection or other suitable means.
  • As illustrated in FIG. 2, the lip applicator rod has an elongate, cylindrical encasement 4 with a closed end and an open end that has a wiper mechanism integrated into the orifice 3, that forms a seal preventing the liquid or semi-liquid material from escaping from the encasement. The wiper can be constructed of a rubber or pliable material in a known way that effectively removes any excess liquid or semi-liquid substance prior to application.
  • As illustrated in FIG. 3, the lip applicator rod 2 is fully inserted through the wiping mechanism seal 3 and into the encasement 4 using the lip applicator handle or base 6. Once the lip applicator rod 2 is inserted into the liquid or semi-liquid reservoir 5, the lip applicator rod 2 is reloaded with liquid or semi-liquid material which can then be applied once again to the lip surface if desired by the user.
  • FIG. 4 illustrates the finished lip design imprint 7, which is produced when the user rolls the cosmetic lip applicator rod depicted at 2 in FIG. 1 over the lip surface.
  • Although particular embodiments of the invention are described and illustrated herein, it is to be understood that various changes and modifications may be made to the invention without departing from the intent or principles of the present invention or the scope of the claims defined herein.

Claims (3)

1. A cosmetic lip applicator that produces a non-permanent imprinted design on the lip surface, comprising:
an applicator rod embedded with protruding symbols and design patterns.
a corresponding, cylindrical encasement that houses the applicator rod and, when inserted into the encasement, replenishes the applicator rod with liquid or semi-liquid cosmetic material, which is contained in a reservoir within the encasement.
2. A cosmetic lip applicator as claimed in claim 1, wherein:
a roller-type mechanism at the base of the applicator rod allows the applicator rod to easily roll over the lip surface, in either direction, enabling a more precise application, resulting in a more finely detailed design pattern on the lip surface.
3. A cosmetic lip applicator as claimed in claim 1, wherein:
a wiper mechanism that is integrated into the orifice of the encasement allows for an evenly and fastidiously distributed amount of liquid or semi-liquid material onto the applicator rod as it is being removed from the encasement.
