Abstract
A reversible pocket wrap is a garment comprising a pocket and a band on a loop. The reversible pocket wrap is made of a base piece of stretchable material such that the reversible pocket wrap fits well to a subject around body parts. The pocket is preferably in square shape disposed in an angle such that two lower edges are closed to form a v-shaped container to hold articles. An opening to the pocket is on the outside of the garment. A reversed opening is on the inside of the garment such that the pocket is accessible from the outside when the garment is reversed. The reversible pocket wrap is worn about the head and/or the neck. The reversible pocket wrap is used as a pocket, a band, a warmer, a scarf, a visor, etc.
Description
- The present invention relates to a clothing accessory featuring a pocket which is suitable for use by men, women, children, dolls, stuffed toys, and pets.
- Conventional clothing accessories wearable around neck and/or head use holding mechanisms that are not easily adjustable and cumbersome. Also, conventional clothing accessories featuring a pocket have problems with keeping objects inside the pocket. Therefore, there is a need for a clothing accessory featuring a pocket that reliably keeps objects inside the pocket and conveniently worn.
- According to one embodiment of the present invention, the reversible pocket wrap comprises a pocket and a band on a loop formed from a base piece, a first pocket area at a first end of the base piece and a second pocket area at a second end of the base piece and a third area for forming the band positioned between the first and second pocket area, wherein the first pocket area has a first edge, a second edge and a third edge, a first face and a second opposite face and the second pocket area has a first edge, a second edge and a third edge, respectively corresponding to the first edge, the second edge and the third edge of the first pocket area, a first face and a second opposite face corresponding to the first pocket area, and wherein the second edge of the first pocket area is attached to the third edge of the second pocket area and the third edge of the first pocket area is attached to the second edge of the second pocket area such that the first face of the first pocket area is attached to the second opposite face of the second pocket area.
- According to one embodiment of the present invention, the reversible pocket wrap has predefined dimensions for fitting and various purposes to utilize the invention.
- According to one embodiment of the present invention, a method for making the reversible pocket wrap is disclosed.

In this specification, the term “pocket” may be used interchangeably with terms such as, inter alia, receptacle, holder, container, compartment, sack, cavity, pouch, etc. Also, the term “band” may be used interchangeably with terms such as, inter alia, circle, loop, strap, etc. The reversible pocket wrap, 30 and 40, of the present invention is used as, inter alia, a fashion accessory, a warmer, a pocket, a band, a visor, and a combination thereof. The reversible pocket wrap, 30 and 40, is gender-neutral and age-neutral article of garment that can be worn about head, neck and/or chest area. The reversible pocket wrap, 30 and 40, is suitable for anyone who has anatomical structures comparable to head, neck, chest, and shoulder. Thus, the reversible pocket wrap, 30 and 40, is suitable for men, women, children, dolls, stuffed toys, and pets, etc. The reversible pocket wrap, 30 and 40, may vary in size, decoration, and proportion for a respective usage and/or scale of each wearer.
- The reversible pocket wrap, 30 and 40, is made of any flexible material that can be stretched in directions shown in
FIGS. 1A and 1B with a bidirectional arrow referred to as a direction A, such that the reversible pocket wrap, 30 and 40, is comfortably worn and well-fitted to a subject. One embodiment of the reversible pocket wrap, 30 and 40, is made of knitted yarn. More specifically, this embodiment of the reversible pocket wrap, 30 and 40, is manually knitted using garter stitch to form a base piece of the reversible pocket wrap, 30 and 40. See descriptions ofFIG. 2A , infra, for details of the base piece. - The right-
handed pocket embodiment 30 of the reversible pocket wrap has a right-hand side opening 35 to a pocket of the right-handed pocket embodiment 30. Two 33 and 34, forms the pocket of the right-edges handed pocket embodiment 30. See descriptions ofFIGS. 2A , 2B, 3A, and 3B, infra, for details of the right-handed pocket embodiment 30. - The left-
handed pocket embodiment 40 of the reversible pocket wrap has a left-hand side opening 45 to a pocket of the left-handed pocket embodiment 40. Two 43 and 44, forms the pocket of the left-edges handed pocket embodiment 40. See descriptions ofFIGS. 2A , 2B, 4A, and 4B, infra, for details of the left-handed pocket embodiment 40. - The pocket of the reversible pocket wrap, in both right-handed and left-handed pocket embodiments, 30 and 40, holds articles better than ordinary pockets in garments because the pocket are stretchable and have a deep V shape defined by said two edges, 33 and 34, or 43 and 44. The opening to the pocket is diagonally stretched on both inside and outside when the reversible pocket wrap is worn by the subject such that the reversible pocket wrap fits well to the subject and the pocket is tightened at the opening. Depending on size of the opening to the pocket, an extra covering mechanism to contain articles inside of the pocket may be employed. The pocket holds any personal items that are ordinarily held in pockets such as, inter alia, keys, money, eyeglasses, etc.

FIGS. 2A and 2B illustrate a front elevation view of abase piece 10 for the reversible pocket wrap, 30 and 40 ofFIG. 1 , supra, in accordance with the embodiments of the present invention. -
FIG. 2A . illustrates thebase piece 10 for the reversible pocket wrap, 30 and 40, in accordance with the embodiments of the present invention. Thebase piece 10 is common to the right-handed pocket embodiment 30 and the left-handed pocket embodiment 40 of the present invention. A direction A indicates that thebase piece 10 is bidirectionally stretchable in the direction A. Thebase piece 10 comprises afirst pocket area 100, asecond pocket area 200, and aband area 300. - The
first pocket area 100 at a first end of thebase piece 10 is outlined by a first edge of thefirst pocket area 11, a second edge of thefirst pocket area 12, and a third edge of thefirst pocket area 13. The first edge of thefirst pocket area 11, the second edge of thefirst pocket area 12 and the third edge of thefirst pocket area 13 are of a common length referred to as a pocket width P. The second edge of thefirst pocket area 12 is perpendicular to the first edge of thefirst pocket area 11. A third edge of thefirst pocket area 13 is perpendicular to the second edge of thefirst pocket area 12. - The
second pocket area 200 is at a second end of thebase piece 10 that is opposite to the first end. Thesecond pocket area 200 is outlined by a first edge of thesecond pocket area 21, a second edge of the second pocket area 22, and a third edge of thesecond pocket area 23. The first edge of thesecond pocket area 21 symmetrically corresponds to the first edge of thefirst pocket area 11. The second edge of the second pocket area 22 symmetrically corresponds to the second edge of thefirst pocket area 12. The third edge of thesecond pocket area 23 symmetrically corresponds to the third edge of thefirst pocket area 13. The first edge of thesecond pocket area 21, the second edge of the second pocket area 22 and the third edge of thesecond pocket area 23 are of the same common length of the pocket width P as the edges in thefirst pocket area 100. The second edge of the second pocket area 22 is perpendicular to the first edge of thesecond pocket area 21. A third edge of thesecond pocket area 23 is perpendicular to the second edge of the second pocket area 22. - The
band area 300 couples thefirst pocket area 100 and thesecond pocket area 200 within thebase piece 10. Theband area 300 is outlined by a first line C, a first edge of theband area 301, a second edge of theband area 302, a third edge of theband area 303, a second line D, a forth edge of theband area 304, a fifth edge of theband area 305, and a sixth edge of theband area 306. The first line C is a border between theband area 300 and thefirst pocket area 100. The second line D is a border between theband area 300 and thesecond pocket area 200. - The
band area 300 has the same common length of the pocket width P at the first line C and the second line D. The first edge of theband area 301 and the sixth edge of theband area 306 form an angle B respectively with the first line C. A first end of theband area 300 that is outlined by the first line C, the first edge of theband area 301 and the sixth edge of theband area 306 is symmetrical to a second end of theband area 300 that is outlined by the second line D, the third edge of theband area 303 and the forth edge of theband area 304. - A band width of the
band area 300 is defined as a distance between the second edge of theband area 302 and the fifth edge of theband area 305. A band length of theband area 300 is a measurement along the second edge of theband area 302 that is equal to a length of the fifth edge of theband area 305. - In one embodiment of the present invention, the angle B is 45 degrees. In the same embodiment, the band width is a half of the pocket width P, which is (0.5P). In the same embodiment, the band length is predefined as a neck circumference of an intended subject.
- In the same embodiment, the
base piece 10 is knitted beginning from the first end of thebase piece 10 with the pocket width P and is continued until thefirst pocket area 100 is completed as a square having the pocket width P on all edges. Then theband area 300 begins on the first line C by tapering in at 45 degrees from both ends of thefirst pocket area 100 until the band width becomes a half of the pocket width (0.5P). Theband area 300 continues until the band length is reached while maintaining the band width. Upon accomplishing the band length, the band area continues by tapering out at 45 degrees from both ends of theband area 300 until the band width becomes the pocket width P. Upon achieving the pocket width P on theband area 300, thebase piece 10 continues to thesecond pocket area 200 on the second line D and continues until thesecond pocket area 200 becomes another square having the pocket width P on all edges. In the same embodiment, thebase piece 10 is knitted by garter stitch to make thebase piece 10 stretchable in the direction A. - In the right-handed pocket embodiment of the present invention, the
first pocket area 100 forms a bottom layer of a right-handed pocket and thesecond pocket area 200 forms a top layer of the right-handed pocket. SeeFIGS. 3A and 3B , infra, for details. - In the left-handed pocket embodiment of the present invention, the
first pocket area 100 forms a top layer of a left-handed pocket and thesecond pocket area 200 forms a bottom layer of the left-handed pocket. SeeFIGS. 4A and 4B , infra, for details. - Because the embodiments are reversible, the bottom layer of either the right-handed pocket or the left-handed pocket may be worn on the outside.
-
FIG. 2B . illustrates a front elevation view of thebase piece 10 for the reversible pocket wrap with two folding lines, in accordance with the embodiments of the present invention. - The
base piece 10 is folded twice along a first folding line E and a second folding line F to form a pocket by overlaying two pocket areas. See descriptions ofFIGS. 3A and 3B , infra, for sequences applicable to thebase piece 10 for a right-handed pocket embodiment. See descriptions ofFIGS. 4A and 4B , infra, for sequences applicable to thebase piece 10 for a left-handed pocket embodiment. -
FIGS. 3A and 3B illustrate a method for making a right-handed pocket embodiment 30 of the reversible pocket wrap with thebase piece 10 ofFIGS. 2A and 2B , supra. - The first pocket area of the
base piece 10 on the left side of the first folding line E is placed as shown inFIG. 3A by folding thebase piece 10 along the first folding line E. As a result, the first pocket area forms a bottom layer of a pocket of the right-handed pocket embodiment 30. The second pocket area of thebase piece 10 on the right side of the second folding line F is overlaid on top of the placed first pocket area by folding thebase piece 10 along the second folding line F. As a result, the second pocket area forms a top layer of the pocket of the right-handed pocket embodiment 30. - An
edge 33B of the second pocket area is overlaid along anedge 33A of the placed first pocket area to form anedge 33 of the pocket inFIG. 3B . Anedge 34B of the second pocket area is overlaid along anedge 34A of the placed first pocket area to form anedge 34 of the pocket inFIG. 3B . The 33 and 34 are closed together to form the pocket. Anedges edge 35 of the second pocket area inFIGS. 3A and 3B is an opening to the pocket of the right-handed pocket embodiment 30. The bottom layer and the top layer are switched once the right-handed pocket embodiment 30 is reversed. When reversed, an outer surface of the bottom layer that is opposite to the top layer of the pocket is visible from the outside of the right-handed pocket embodiment 30. When reversed, a reversedopening 36 provides a right-handed opening to the pocket from the outside. - In one embodiment of the present invention, the
33 and 34 are attached by sewing the first pocket area and the second pocket area together along theedges 33 and 34. In another embodiment of the present invention, the opening on theedges edge 35 has closing mechanism such as, inter alia, a button, a zipper, a clasp, a clip, etc., to secure articles inside the pocket and/or for decorative purposes. In still another embodiment, any outer surface of the right-handed pocket wrap 30 is decorated with various materials and methods such as, inter alia, interwoven patterns, stitches, embroidery, beads, buttons, etc. -
FIGS. 4A and 4B illustrate a method for making a left-handed pocket embodiment 40 of the reversible pocket wrap with thebase piece 10 ofFIGS. 2A and 2B , supra. - The second pocket area of the
base piece 10 on the right side of the second folding line F is placed as shown inFIG. 4A by folding thebase piece 10 along the second folding line F. As a result, the second pocket area forms a bottom layer of a pocket of the left-handed pocket embodiment 40. The first pocket area of thebase piece 10 on the left side of the first folding line E is overlaid on top of the placed second pocket area by folding thebase piece 10 along the first folding line E. As a result, the first pocket area forms a top layer of the pocket of the left-handed pocket embodiment 40. - An
edge 43B of the first pocket area is overlaid along anedge 43A of the placed second pocket area to form anedge 43 of the pocket inFIG. 4B . Anedge 44B of the first pocket area is overlaid along anedge 44A of the placed second pocket area to form anedge 44 of the pocket inFIG. 4B . The 43 and 44 are closed together to form the pocket. Anedges edge 45 of the first pocket area inFIGS. 4A and 4B is an opening to the pocket of the left-handed pocket embodiment 40. The bottom layer and the top layer are switched once the left-handed pocket embodiment 40 is reversed. When reversed, an outer surface of the bottom layer that is opposite to the top layer of the pocket is visible from the outside of the left-handed pocket embodiment 40. When reversed, a reversedopening 46 provides a left-handed opening to the pocket from the outside. - In one embodiment of the present invention, the
43 and 44 are attached by sewing the first pocket area and the second pocket area together along theedges 43 and 44. In another embodiment of the present invention, the opening on theedges edge 45 has closing mechanism such as, inter alia, a button, a zipper, a clasp, a clip, etc., to secure articles inside the pocket and/or for decorative purposes. In still another embodiment, any outer surface of the left-handed pocket wrap 40 is decorated with various materials and methods such as, inter alia, interwoven patterns, stitches, embroidery, beads, buttons, etc. -
FIGS. 5A , 5B, 6A, and 6B illustrate the right-handed pocket embodiment of the reversible pocket wrap worn in a wide variety of styles for a respective purpose. -
FIG. 5A illustrates the right-handed pocket embodiment 30 of the reversible pocket wrap worn about the neck as a scarf having a neck/chest pocket with a subject illustrated in phantom. - The right-
handed pocket embodiment 30 is worn by pulling the right-handed pocket embodiment 30 down to the neck. Anopening 35 shows an access point to the pocket of the right-handed pocket embodiment 30. The left-handed pocket embodiment of the reversible pocket wrap is worn analogously to the usages of the right-handed pocket embodiment 30. -
FIG. 5B illustrates the right-handed pocket embodiment 30 of the reversible pocket wrap worn about the head as a head band and/or an ear cover having a pocket with a subject illustrated in phantom. - The right-
handed pocket embodiment 30 is reversed upward to the head while being worn about the neck as shown inFIG. 5A , supra. A reversedopening 36 to the pocket of the right-handed pocket embodiment 30 is used as an access point to the pocket. The left-handed pocket embodiment of the reversible pocket wrap is worn analogously to the usages of the right-handed pocket embodiment 30. -
FIG. 6A illustrates the right-handed pocket embodiment 30 of the reversible pocket wrap worn about the head as a visor having a pocket with a subject illustrated in phantom. - The right-
handed pocket embodiment 30 is worn by pulling the right-handed pocket embodiment 30 down from the top of the head and around the head. Atip 37 of the pocket protrudes because the right-handed pocket embodiment 30 is stretched around the head. The pocket forms a visor such that thetip 37 of the pocket blocks upward views as in a brim of a conventional cap. The right-handed pocket embodiment 30 can be worn in combination with a conventional cap as a band around the conventional cap to provide a pocket and/or an extra brim to block upward views/sun rays, etc. The left-handed pocket embodiment of the reversible pocket wrap is worn analogously to the usages of the right-handed pocket embodiment 30. -
FIG. 6B illustrates the right-handed pocket embodiment 30 of the reversible pocket wrap asymmetrically worn about the head as a fashion accessory and/or a side pocket with a subject illustrated in phantom. - The right-
handed pocket embodiment 30 is worn by pulling the right-handed pocket embodiment 30 down around the head placing the pocket on the left side of the head to make the pocket easily accessible through anopening 35 from the front and from the outside. Atip 37 of the pocket points downward for stably holding articles inside the pocket, while asymmetrically covering the left side of the ear, the face, and/or the head. The left-handed pocket embodiment of the reversible pocket wrap is worn analogously to the usages of the right-handed pocket embodiment.
Claims (19)
1. A reversible pocket wrap comprising:
a pocket and a band on a loop formed from a base piece, a first pocket area at a first end of the base piece and a second pocket area at a second end of the base piece and a third area for forming the band positioned between the first and second pocket area,
wherein the first pocket area has a first edge, a second edge and a third edge, a first face and a second opposite face and the second pocket area has a first edge, a second edge and a third edge, respectively corresponding to the first edge, the second edge and the third edge of the first pocket area, a first face and a second opposite face corresponding to the first pocket area, and
wherein the second edge of the first pocket area is attached to the third edge of the second pocket area and the third edge of the first pocket area is attached to the second edge of the second pocket area such that the first face of the first pocket area is attached to the second opposite face of the second pocket area.
2. The reversible pocket wrap of claim 1 ,
wherein the base piece has a direction that is stretchable along the base piece such that the loop is easily wearable and fitted around a subject,
wherein the pocket has an opening parallel to the direction such that the pocket is easily accessible by stretching the opening and such that the pocket enables stably holding articles inside the pocket, and
wherein the pocket has a reversed opening, the reversed opening being symmetrical to the opening on the inside such that the reversed opening is used analogously to the opening when the loop is reversed.
3. The reversible pocket wrap of claim 2 , wherein a band length along the direction of said band is determined by a measurement of a body part of the subject.
4. The reversible pocket wrap of claim 3 , wherein the measurement of the body part of the subject is the neck circumference.
5. The reversible pocket wrap of claim 4 , wherein the first edge, the second edge, and the third edge of the first pocket area and the first edge, the second edge, and the third edge of the second pocket area have same length of a pocket width (P) at both the first end and the second end of the base piece, and wherein the band has a band width (B) that is a half of the pocket width, the band width resulting from gradually decreasing the pocket width (P) in a predefined angle symmetrically on both sides of the band.
6. The reversible pocket wrap of claim 5 , wherein the base piece is made of a knitted yarn by garter stitch.
7. The reversible pocket wrap of claim 5 , wherein the pocket is right-handed, wherein the opening is on the right side of the reversible pocket wrap.
8. The reversible pocket wrap of claim 7 , wherein the reversible pocket wrap is worn about the neck of the subject to provide at least one functionality chosen from the group consisting of a pocket, a scarf, a warmer, an accessory, and a combination thereof.
9. The reversible pocket wrap of claim 7 , wherein the reversible pocket wrap is worn about the head of the subject to provide at least one functionality chosen from the group consisting of a visor, a pocket, a warmer, an accessory, a band, and a combination thereof.
10. The reversible pocket wrap of claim 7 , wherein the reversible pocket wrap is worn about the head of the subject by pulling down the reversible pocket wrap to the neck and subsequently reversing the reversible pocket wrap upward to the head to provide at least one functionality chosen from the group consisting of a visor, a pocket, a warmer, an accessory, a band, and a combination thereof.
11. The reversible pocket wrap of claim 5 , wherein the pocket is left-handed, wherein the first pocket area forms an outer layer of the pocket, and wherein the second pocket area forms an inner layer of the pocket.
12. The reversible pocket wrap of claim 11 , wherein the reversible pocket wrap is worn about the neck of the subject to provide at least one functionality chosen from the group consisting of a pocket, a scarf, a warmer, an accessory, and a combination thereof.
13. The reversible pocket wrap of claim 11 , wherein the reversible pocket wrap is worn about the head of the subject to provide at least one functionality chosen from the group consisting of a visor, a pocket, a warmer, an accessory, a band, and a combination thereof.
14. The reversible pocket wrap of claim 11 , wherein the reversible pocket wrap is worn about the head of the subject by pulling down the reversible pocket wrap to the neck and subsequently reversing the reversible pocket wrap upward to the head to provide at least one functionality chosen from the group consisting of a visor, a pocket, a warmer, an accessory, a band, and a combination thereof.
15. A reversible pocket wrap comprising:
a pocket and a band on a loop formed from a base piece, a first pocket area at a first end of the base piece and a second pocket area at a second end of the base piece and a third area for forming the band positioned between the first and second pocket area,
wherein the first pocket area has a first edge, a second edge and a third edge, a first face and a second opposite face and the second pocket area has a first edge, a second edge and a third edge, respectively corresponding to the first edge, the second edge and the third edge of the first pocket area, a first face and a second opposite face corresponding to the first pocket area,
wherein the second edge of the first pocket area is attached to the third edge of the second pocket area and the third edge of the first pocket area is attached to the second edge of the second pocket area such that the first face of the first pocket area is attached to the second opposite face of the second pocket area,
wherein the base piece has a direction that is stretchable along the base piece such that the loop is easily wearable and fitted around a subject,
wherein the pocket has an opening parallel to the direction such that the pocket is easily accessible by stretching the opening and such that the pocket enables stably holding articles inside the pocket,
wherein the pocket has a reversed opening, the reversed opening being symmetrical to the opening on the inside such that the reversed opening is used analogously to the opening when the loop is reversed,
wherein the first edge, the second edge, and the third edge of the first pocket area and the first edge, the second edge, and the third edge of the second pocket area have same length of a pocket width (P) at both the first end and the second end of the base piece, and
wherein the band has a band width (B) that is a half of the pocket width, the band width resulting from gradually decreasing the pocket width (P) in a predefined angle symmetrically on both sides of the band.
16. A method for making a reversible pocket wrap comprising:
constructing a base piece, said base piece comprising a first pocket area on a first end of the base piece, a band area immediately adjacent to the first pocket area, and a second pocket area immediately adjacent to the band area at a second end of the base piece,
wherein the first pocket area has a first edge, a second edge and a third edge, a first face and a second opposite face and the second pocket area has a first edge, a second edge and a third edge, respectively corresponding to the first edge, the second edge and the third edge of the first pocket area,
wherein the first edge, the second edge, and the third edge of the first pocket area and the first edge, the second edge, and the third edge of the second pocket area have same length of a pocket width (P) at both the first end and the second end of the base piece, and
wherein the band area has a band width (B) that is a half of the pocket width, the band width resulting from gradually decreasing the pocket width (P) in a predefined angle symmetrically on both sides of the band area.
17. The method of claim 16 , wherein said constructing is selected from the group consisting of knitting the base piece with a yarn, cutting the base piece from a flexible fabric material, and a combination thereof.
18. The method of claim 16 , the method further comprising:
determining that a pocket of the reversible pocket wrap is right-handed;
folding the first pocket area of the base piece downward in an angle that disposes the second edge and the third edge of the first pocket area to form a V-shape in front of the band area;
folding the second pocket area of the base piece over the folded first pocket area such that the second edge of the second pocket area is aligned with the third edge of the folded first pocket area and such that the third edge of the second pocket area is aligned with the second edge of the folded first pocket area; and
attaching the first pocket area and the second pocket area along the aligned second edge and the aligned third edge of the second pocket area such that a cavity between the first pocket area and the second pocket area formed by two attached edges resulting from said attaching hold articles, wherein said attaching is selected from the group consisting of sewing the base piece with a thread, applying a chemical bonding agent, coupling with a closing mechanism, and a combination thereof, pursuant to the material of the base piece.
19. The method of claim 16 , the method further comprising:
determining that a pocket of the reversible pocket wrap is left-handed;
folding the second pocket area of the base piece downward in an angle that disposes the second edge and the third edge of the second pocket area to form a V-shape in front of the band area;
folding the first pocket area of the base piece over the folded second pocket area such that the second edge of the first pocket area is aligned with the third edge of the folded second pocket area and such that the third edge of the first pocket area is aligned with the second edge of the folded second pocket area; and
attaching the first pocket area and the second pocket area along the aligned second edge and the aligned third edge of the first pocket area such that a cavity between the first pocket area and the second pocket area formed by two attached edges resulting from said attaching hold articles, wherein said attaching is selected from the group consisting of sewing the base piece with a thread, applying a chemical bonding agent, coupling with a closing mechanism, and a combination thereof, pursuant to the material of the base piece.
