Abstract
Exercise garment made from a thin, lightweight fabric that is free of lead, cadmium, chromium and mercury. The exercise garment may be a vest, jacket, shirt, pants, shorts, one-piece bodysuit or similar suitable garment. The exercise garment may be form-fitting for a man or woman and is suitable for a user to wear underneath other garments during exercise. An exercise garment of the present invention promotes weight reduction through increasing generation and retention of heat and perspiration by a user during exercise.
Description
- The present application is related to European Design 000929450-0001 filed on May 6, 2008. European Design 000929450-0001 is incorporated herein by reference and is not admitted to be prior art with respect to this invention by its mention in the background. The present application claims the benefit of Provisional Application No. 61/192,729 filed Sep. 19, 2008, which is incorporated herein by reference.
- 1. Field of the Invention
- This invention relates generally to garments that may be worn by a user during exercise to enhance weight-loss effects.
- 2. Background Discussion
- Among individuals who value physical fitness and appearance, there typically is a desire to maximize the weight-loss benefits of exercise. To meet this desire, the art has developed a variety of garments to increase the efficiency of exercise and to maximize weight loss when a user wears the garment during exercise.
- However, garments known in the art are bulky and loose-fitting and therefore are not suitable for a user to wear underneath other garments during exercise. According to this invention, a garment adapted to be worn underneath other garments and next to the user's skin during exercise can increase heat retention and perspiration by a user, thereby enhancing weight-loss effects. For the foregoing reasons, a need exists for a form-fitting garment that may be worn by a user during exercise to enhance weight reduction.
- An object of this invention is a form-fitting exercise garment comprising a thin, lightweight fabric, wherein the fabric is impermeable to water and water vapor. A garment of the present invention is suitable to be worn by a user underneath other garments during exercise.
- In some embodiments, the garment is a vest, jacket, shirt, pants, shorts or one-piece bodysuit.
- In some embodiments, the thickness of the fabric is equal to or less than about 75 microns.
- In some embodiments, the thickness of the fabric is equal to or less than about 25 microns.
- In some embodiments, the weight of the fabric is equal to or less than about 0.95 g/cm2.
- In some embodiments, the fabric comprises polyethylene.
- In some embodiments, the fabric is free of lead, cadmium, chromium and mercury.
- In some embodiments, the fabric contains 0% by weight lead, cadmium, chromium and mercury.
- In some embodiments, the garment is form-fitting for a man.
- In some embodiments, the garment is form-fitting for a woman.
- Another object of this invention is a form-fitting exercise vest comprising thin, lightweight polyethylene fabric that contains about 0% by weight lead, cadmium, chromium and mercury.

It is intended that all such additional systems, methods, features, and advantages be included within this description, be within the scope of the invention, and be protected by the appended claims.

FIGS. 1 , 2, 3 and 4, in some embodiments, anexercise garment 100 of the present invention is a vest. In some embodiments, theexercise garment 100 may be a jacket, a shirt, pants, shorts, a one-piece bodysuit or any garment suitable for being worn by auser 200 during exercise. - In some embodiments, the
exercise garment 100 is form-fitting for either a man or a woman. The form-fitting shape of theexercise garment 100 closely fits the contours of the user's body. The form-fitting shape of theexercise garment 100 reduces the volume of air held between the interior surface of theexercise garment 100 and the skin of theuser 200, which reduces convective heat losses to air surrounding the user's body and increases heat retention. Additionally, embodiments of theexercise garment 100 adapted to enclose a user's 200 upper body or torso further enhance heat retention. According to this invention, increased heat retention promotes reduction of body weight. - In some embodiments, the fabric comprising the
exercise garment 100 is impermeable to water and water vapor. Auser 200 wearing theexercise garment 100 during exercise will generate heat and also water and water vapor in the form of perspiration. According to this invention, the impermeable fabric comprising theexercise garment 100 provides a significant advantage over permeable fabrics in reducing convective heat losses from the user's body to the surrounding air. Accordingly, the impermeable fabric comprising theexercise garment 100 provides increased retention of heat generated by theuser 200 and promotes perspiration, thereby promoting the reduction of body weight. - An
exercise garment 100 of this invention that is made of a thin, lightweight fabric may advantageously be worn by auser 200 underneath other garments during exercise. Additionally, vest embodiments of theexercise garment 100 provide reduced bulk and material, increasing ease of movement and facilitating wearing theexercise garment 100 underneath other garments. According to this invention, wearing theexercise garment 100 underneath other garments next to the skin of auser 200 promotes heat retention and perspiration, which promote reduction of body weight as discussed previously. - In some embodiments, the fabric comprising the
exercise garment 100 is thin. In some embodiments, the thickness of the fabric comprising theexercise garment 100 is equal to or less than about 75 microns. In some embodiments, the thickness of the fabric comprising theexercise garment 100 is equal to or less than about 25 microns. - In some embodiments, the fabric comprising the
exercise garment 100 is lightweight. In some embodiments, the weight of the fabric comprising theexercise garment 100 is equal to or less than about 0.95 g/cm2. - In some embodiments, the fabric comprising the
exercise garment 100 is made of one or more materials such as polyethylene or any other suitable material impermeable to water and water vapor. In some embodiments, the material used to make the fabric comprising theexercise garment 100 is advantageously free of lead, cadmium, chromium and mercury. According to this invention, lead, cadmium, chromium and mercury may cause skin reactions such as rashes, spots and other irritations that would adversely affect the user's 200 comfort during exercise. In some embodiments, the material used to make the fabric comprising theexercise garment 100 contains about 0% by weight lead, cadmium, chromium and mercury. - In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the
exercise garment 100 is a form-fitting vest comprising thin, lightweight polyethylene fabric that contains about 0% by weight lead, cadmium, chromium and mercury. An example of the polyethylene fabric provided for in this embodiment is sold by Elite Plastics Limited and is advantageously biodegradable and disposable. - Although the present invention has been described in considerable detail with reference to certain embodiments thereof, other embodiments are possible. Therefore, the spirit and scope of the appended claims should not be limited to the description of the embodiments contained therein.
Claims (13)
1. An exercise garment comprising a thin, lightweight fabric, wherein the fabric is impermeable to water and water vapor and wherein the garment is form-fitting.
2. The exercise garment of claim 1 wherein the garment is selected from the group consisting of vests, jackets, shirts, pants, shorts and one-piece bodysuits.
3. The exercise garment of claim 1 wherein the thickness of the fabric is equal to or less than about 75 microns.
4. The exercise garment of claim 1 wherein the thickness of the fabric is equal to or less than about 25 microns.
5. The exercise garment of claim 1 wherein the weight of the fabric is equal to or less than about 0.95 g/cm2.
6. The exercise garment of claim 1 wherein the fabric comprises polyethylene.
7. The exercise garment of claim 1 wherein the fabric is free of lead, cadmium, chromium and mercury.
8. The exercise garment of claim 1 wherein the fabric contains about 0% by weight lead, cadmium, chromium and mercury.
9. The exercise garment of claim 8 wherein the fabric comprises polyethylene, the thickness of the fabric is equal to or less than about 25 microns and the weight of the fabric is equal to or less than about 0.95 g/cm2.
10. The exercise garment of claim 1 wherein the garment is form-fitting for a man.
11. The exercise garment of claim 1 wherein the garment is form-fitting for a woman.
12. An exercise garment comprising thin, lightweight polyethylene fabric, wherein the garment is form-fitting and wherein the fabric contains about 0% by weight lead, cadmium, chromium and mercury.
13. An exercise vest comprising polyethylene fabric, wherein the vest is form-fitting and wherein the fabric is equal to or less than about 25 microns thick, weighs about 0.95 g/cm2 or less and contains about 0% by weight lead, cadmium, chromium and mercury.
