Description

Aug. 6, 1935. w. i-l. LEI-NWEBER FROPELLER Fil ed Jan. 21, 1953 5 mvENTbiz. William H. Leinweber HIS ATTORNEYS Patented Aug. 6, 1935 rnoPELLEB k g William H. Leinweber, Chicago, Ill. Application January 21, 1933, Serial No. 652,829 v 1 Claim. This invention relates to a propeller.
It is an object of this invention to provide an improved propeller which is relatively simple and inexpensive in construction and efiicient in use.
Other objects will. appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel comblnation and arrangement of parts to be' hereinafter describedand claimed. The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying. drawing, showing the preferred cm of construction and in which:
Fig. l is a perspective view of a preferred embodiin'ent of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line {-2 in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is an elevational view of the same; and- Fig. 4 is a top plan view thereof. The new propeller comprises a hub l and blades 2 and 3 extending radially therefrom.
Formed integrally with, or converted in any suitable manner tending transversely thereacross, is a series of fins 4. These fins 4 are curved throughout their extent and they have a convex curvature ln'the direction of the hub I, or'a concave curvature in the direction of the radially outer ends .or tips of the blades '(Figs. 3 and 4); the height of the fins 4 increasing gradually from the leading edges 5 of the blades to the trailing edges 8 thereof.
The present propeller is especially designed for use as a ventilating fan and when in use improves to, each of the blades, and exgenerally the circulation of the air 'in which it operates, one reason for this being that the construction of the fins 4 directs the air therefrom toward the radially, outer ends or tips of the blades.
' While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into efiect, this is capable of variation and modification, without departing from the spirit of the invention. I,- therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precisedetails of construc-. tion set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim. a Having thus described my inventionwhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A propeller including a blade having a series of fins extending transversely thereacross between the leading and trailing edges thereof; said blade having a substantially uniform and fiat surface throughout its main extent on the side thereof on which the said fins are arranged; each of said fins being curved throughout its extent and having a concave curvature in a direction toward the radial tip of the blade; said fins gradually increasing in height from the leading edge of the blade to the trailing edge thereof.
