IMPROVEMENT IN JOINING SHEET METAL T0 WIRE-CLOTH FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF FLY-TRAPS, 61c.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,130, dated February 12, 1878; application filed June 14, 1877.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SAMUEL M. COOK, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new inga connection or union of sheet metal and wire-cloth, the parts of which are formed in separate pieces, and united together, as heretofore, by means of solder, or staples of bent or twisted wires inserted in holes in the sheet metal; and it consists of the combination and arrangement of struckup points from the surface of the sheet-metal disk, bottom, flange, or rim in pairs, which enter the woven-wire meshes of the article when pressed together,

and are secured thereto by bending over such polnts, so as to secure one or more of the said wires underneath or between the point and the body of such sheet metal, as hereinafter more fully set forth and described.

Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.

A represents a sheet-metal disk, flange, or bottom of a fly-trap or other article, and having two or more pairs of points, E, punched or struck up out of the body of the flange or bottom disk A, and near each other. These are pointed or V-shaped, so as to permit of being inserted between or into the meshes of the Woven-Wire portion B, and then turned down or over the wires and clinched, as shown, thus firmly and cheaply uniting or soouring thetwo portions A (of sheet metal) and B (of wire-cloth) together.

Instead of arranging the points E in pairs,

they may be struck up from the sheet-metal portion A at intervals, so as to be bent down in opposite directions over the wires B, and thereby accomplish the desired result.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- The combination of the sheet-metal disk or bottom A, having struck-up points E, with the woven-wire part B, the said points being bent or clinched over the wire, as and for the purposes set forth.
