Description
Patented Nov, E16,, 193? his stares @WHQE 2 Claims.
This invention has to dowith the art of toilet seats which are commonly included in the construction of a toilet assembly, and availed of by persons so that they may assume a sitting position while having a movement of the bowels.
It is well recognized by medical authorities that the ordinary comfortable sitting position is not nearly so helpful to a proper movement of the bowels as is the so-called squatting position. Accordingly, this invention has in view, as an important objective, the provision of a toilet seat of the character described which is designed primarily to cause one to assume a squatting position when sitting on the same.
This end is attained by making the seat structure of a curved or bowed construction, and in order to further assure that the proper squatting position will be maintained by one using the seat the invention has in view, as a further more detailed objective, the provision of a back member which constitutes, for all effective purposes, a continuation of the seat structure. This back member is preferably detachably mounted in the structure of the toilet.
Various other more detailed objects and advantages will in part become apparent, and in part be hereinafter stated, as the .description of the invention proceeds.
The invention, therefore, comprises a toilet assembly which includes a seat of a bowed or curved construction, and a back member which blends in and cooperates with the seat to cause one using the latter to assume a squatting position.
For a full and more complete understanding of I the invention reference may be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a side view, in elevation of a toilet assembly, made in accordance with the precepts of this invention,
Figure 2 is a front elevational view of the toilet shown in Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a top plan view.
Referring now to the drawing, wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts, a conventional toilet assembly is shown as comprising a toilet bowl l0, flush tank I I, and the (@l. lk-98) novel seat of this invention, which is desighated l2.
As shown in the drawing, the bowl lit is formed at its lower end with a flange 53 through which extend fastening elements it that anchor the 5 bowl immovably in position. The upper edge of the bowl i6 is referred to as It, and is of a curved or bowed formation; the bow extending from the front to the rear of the seat. I
At the rear side the upper edge l5 of the bowl 10 l0 terminates in .a flatportion 56 on which is fastened, as by the fastening members indicated at ill, a back member l8.
The toilet seat l2 has a curvature corresponding to the top l5 of the bowl l0, and this seat l5 i2 is hingedly mounted, as indicated at l9. From Figure 1 it can be readily seen that the back it merges in with the seat I2 and constitutes what is substantially a continuation thereof.
Figure 1 develops in dotted lines the squatting 20 position assumed by one using the seat, and. which position is caused by the construction of the seat l2 and back l8. Dotted lines also bring out the position of the seat I? when it is swung upwardly out of the way.
While a preferred specific embodiment of the invention is hereinbefore set forth, it is to be clearly understood that I am not to be limited to the exact construction illustrated and described, because various modifications of these details 30 may be provided in putting the invention into practice within the purview of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A toilet assembly of the character described comprising a toilet bowl formed with an upper edge curved from the 'front to the rear, a toilet seat conforming in curvature to the upper edge of the bowl, and a back member carried by the bowl.
2. A toilet assembly of the character described comprising a toilet bowl formed with an upper edge curved from the front to the rear, a toilet seat conforming in curvature to the upper edge of the bowl, and a back member detachably. 45 mounted on the bowl and constituting a. substantial continuation of the curved construction of the seat.
,GEORGE WINTER KENNEDY.
