Company, New Haven, Conn., a corporation Application February 2, 1932. Serial No. 590,342
2 Claims. (Cl. 20-564) This invention relates to an improvement in store-front constructions and particularly to constructions which include a rear member and a front member, the two being connected by a screw passing through the front member and into a window-casing. In such constructions, it is desirable that some means should be provided for preventing the edge of the glass from coming in contact with the screws and it is also desirable that the outer member should be reinforced to hold the outer edge of the outer member against the glass.
The object of this invention is to provide means for accomplishing this purpose and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter -described and particularly recited in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. 1 is a front view of a store-front construction embodying our invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a portion of an outer member;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a portion of an inner member;
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a brace for the outer member, detached;
Fig. 6 is a front view of a modified form of our invention; I
Fig. '7 is an edge view of the same;
Fig. 8 is a sectional view on the line 8-8 of Fig. 6;
Fig. 9 is a perspective view of a section of the outer member of a modified form, detached; I
Fig. 10 is a perspective view of a section of the inner member shown in Figs. 6, 7 and 8; and
Fig. 11 is a perspective view of the brace used with the construction shown in the figures last mentioned.
In carrying out our invention, we employ an inner member 15 of substantially usual form except that from the base 16 a stop 17 is provided, this stop being cut from the base and turned outward therefrom. The outer member 18 is of any approved design and includes a base 19, a shoulder 20 and a pocket 21, which bears against a sheet of glass 22.
To reinforce the outer member, we employ a brace 23 having an upwardly-extending arm 24 to enter the pocket 21, an outwardly-extending arm 25 to engage with the shoulder 20, with a transverse notch 26 in its under-face into which is entered a rib 27, struck upward from the base 19, and an inwardly-extending finger 28 to engage with the stop 1'7. The parts are connected together by a screw 29 extending through the front, through a hole 30 in the brace, .and into the window-casing 31.
The brace is also preferably formed with a shelf 32 which may not only form a support for the glass, but prevents the edge of the glass from coming in contact with the screw.
Instead of forming the stop 17 as an integral part of the inner member, the stop for the finger 28 may be a tubular member 33, as shown in Figs.
7, 8 and 10 of the drawings.
This tubular member forms a support for the glass and prevents it from coming in contact with the screw and the lower wall 34 forms a stop for the finger 28 and so tends to hold the outer member in close contact with the glass, as in the construction first described.
Instead of forming the rib 27, the outer strip may be formed at its inner edge with a lip 35 to enter the notch 26 in the brace.
In either We claim:
1. A store-front construction comprising inner and outer members, a brace connected with the outer member and interlocked therewith, said brace formed with an inwardly-projecting finger and an inwardly-projecting shelf, and the inner member provided with a stop to be engaged by said finger, and means for clamping the outer member against the inner member.
2. A store-front construction comprising inner and outer members, the outer member comprising a base, a shoulder and a pocket, a brace comprising an arm extending into said pocket, a base interlocked with the base of the said outer member and formed with an outwardly-extending arm engaging with the said shoulder, said brace also formed with an inwardly-extending bowed finger, the inner. member having a base formed with an upwardly and forwardly extending bowed stop. beneath which said finger extends so as to be engaged therewith, and means for securing the outer member in place and crowding it against a sheet of glass.
