Description

Patented Aug. 14, 1928.
UNITED STATES CORNELIUS SULLIVAN, 0F BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
FLAG ATTACHMENT.
Application ledMay 7, 1928. Serial No. 275,770.
My invention relates to a device for preventing the flag going over the pole in a strong wind. The same consists of a chain which always swings with the flag. lrVhen l5 the wind lifts the flag the chain or links slip into each other` which causes the flag to drop on the same side of the pole. The chain is the length of the field. `The upper end of chain is attached to a swivel that is attached le to a yoke, around this yoke the pull in cord is fastened, and then extends upward and around pulley on flag pole. Between the yoke and pulley on the pull in cord I attach the end of the cord that runs through the 35i top of the flag. The bottom of the chain is fastened to a swivel hook, this swivel hook is then attached to rawhide strip which is stitched to the bottom of the field. lVhen the flag is taken down, the chain is detached 20 from the swivel hooks.
All the flags now in'use will twist around the pole in a strong wind. Vth my attachment it is impossible to do so.
I attain these objects by the mechanism 25 illustrated in the accompanying drawing. Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the drawing.
1 is the flag pole, 2 the flag, and 3 the field of the flag. 4 is the chain which prevents they twisting of the flag around the pole. 5 and 6 are swivel hooksto which chain 4 is attached. Swivel hook 5 is attached to yoke 7, around yoke 7 runs the pull in cord 8 and is fastened thereto. This yoke 7 prevents wear on the pull in cord 8. 9 is the pulley around which the pull in cord runs. This pulley is attached to the pole 1. rlhe cord l0 which runs through the top of the flag is fastened to the pull in cord at l1, between the yoke 7 and pulley 9. The swivel 6 at the bottom of chain is attached to the rawhide piece l2, this piece is stitched to the bottom of the field of the flag.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim is A chain attached to the pull in cord of a flag at top by swivel and yoke connection and at bottom by swivel, the same being attached to projecting piece at the bottomof the field of the flag.
