Description
Aug. 18, 1936.
V. T. CROW MONEY Rri'EPTAcLE Filed April 2, 1934 797 720701. 07 01 anumiu Patented Aug. 18, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a receptacle designed for use with portable trays of the curb-service type, the primary object of the invention being to provide a receptacle which may be readily and easily clamped to the rim of a curb-service tray, providing a definite place for the customer to place money for the payment for articles, and to receive his change, eliminating the necessity of having to place the money or change in the tray to handle.
A further object of the invention is to provide a coin receptacle having means thereon for se curing the check to the receptacle, thereby in suring against the check blowing away.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a receptacle which may be readily and easily stamped from a sheet of metal by a single operation of a stamping machine, thereby reducing the cost of manufacture, to a minimum.
With the foregoing and other objects in view,
i the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made Within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a coin receptacle constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a View disclosing a blank from which the receptacle is formed.
40 Referring to the drawing in detail, the device comprises a body portion indicated generally by the reference character 5, the body portion being stamped from a length of sheet metal material, preferably aluminum.
In the construction of the body portion or receptacle, after the blank, as shown by Figure 4 of the drawing, has been formed, the side edges 6 thereof are bent downwardly, the flanges 6 being of widths equal to the width of the rim of the tray with which the receptacle is used, the rim being indicated by the reference character 1.
The forward flange 8 is also bent downwardly,
where it usually becomes wet and objectionable the flanges 6 and 8 providing a support for the body portion.
The flange 9 formed along the rear end of the body portion or receptacle is also bent downwardly, and the rear corners of the flanges 6 5 are cut away at H), providing a clearance, so that when the flange 9 has been bent to its active position, the flange 9 together with the rear ends of the flanges 6, will clamp the rim of the tray, supporting the receptacle against ac- 10 cidental displacement.
Formed in the upper surface of the receptacle, is a depressed portion II that has an inclined bottom l2, so that coins may be positioned therein, but readily removed by sliding the coins over 15 the inclined bottom l2.
The reference character l3 designates a tongue which is stamped from the body portion, the tongue being curved, as shown by Figure 2 of the drawing, lending resiliency to the tongue, 20 so that the tongue will clamp a check or paper money to prevent it from blowing away.
In the use of the device, the receptacle is positioned over the rim of a tray in a manner as shown by Figure 2 of the drawing. It will thus 25 be seen that due to this construction, the coins used in paying for the articles received on the tray, may be placed in the depressed portion, where the coins are held out of contact with the tray, eliminating the possibility of the coins be- 30 coming wet or hidden under dishes held on the tray, where the coins are not only hard to locate, but due to the wet condition are objectional to handle.
Having thus described the invention, what is 35 claimed is:
The combination with a supporting member having an upstanding inclined flange, of a receptacle comprising a substantially rectangular body portion having a depression therein, said 40 body portion being formed of yieldable sheet material, portions of the body portion being bent at right angles providing parallel supporting flanges along the sides thereof, the ends of the flanges near one end of the body portion being inclined towards the opposite end of the flanges, one end of the body portion being extended at substantially right angles to the inclined ends of the flanges cooperating with the inclined ends of the flanges, providing a clamp, and the oppo- 50 site end of the body portion being extended at right angles providing a supporting flange.
