Description
E. J. HANSEN NAPKIN DISPENSING DEVICE Oct. 25 1927.
Filed Dec. 9. 1925 W4 PM 7 G ttow w 1 Patented Oct. 25, 1927.
UNITED snares mean 3'. HANSEN, or GREEN 'saYpw-rsoonsrn.
NAPKIN-DISEENSING DEVICE.
Application filed December Thein-uention irelates to a device for dispensing paper napkins, towels, or the like,
:andfhas as an object ithe provision of a deance from whlch naplnns may be readlly removed-one rat;aitime, and having means to prevent access of the :user to the edge of the pile of napkins in the device, whereby more than-one napkin couldbe removed at a time.
The invention is an improvement on that described and claimed in United States Letters Patent No. 1,550,544, issued to me 'on August 18, 1925.
An illustrative embodiment of the inven tion is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a plan view.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation, partly 1n central'vertical section, and
Fig. 3 is a plan view showing a modified position of the side bars.
As shown, the device comprises a receptacle 10, which may be mounted upon a pedestal 11. To render access to the interior of the contents easy, the sides of the receptacle 10 are shown as cut away at 12.
To retain sheets in the receptacle, there are shown a pair of rollers 13, 1 1 placed transversely of the sheets and desirably guided in their movement by vertical slots 15 in the sides of the receptacle.
It will be obvious that the exact location of these slots is a matter of choice but they are conveniently placed adjacent the ends of the receptacle.
The present invention would be apphcable to adevice of this nature it the weights resting upon the sheets were to extend longitudinally of the receptacle, and if the ends of the receptacle were cut aw'ay after the manner shown at 12.
To retain the traveling weights 13, 14: in
the slots 15, the ends of the weights are shown as reduced in diameter and as provided with heads 16 positioned exteriorly of the side walls of the receptacle 10 and thereby retaining the weights in the slots.
In the manner shown in my patent above referred to, provision for removal of the weights when the receptacle is substantially empty is shown in the form of openings 17 at the bottom end of the slots 15 of sufficient size to allow the passage of the heads 16 and of the body of the roller there through. Also, as shown in the patent, provision is shown for retaining the weights 9, 1925. :fierial No. 174,255.
in elevated position 5111 the form of offsets .18, at-therupperendsof-the slots.
If ,preferred, the reduced portions of the rollers, together with the heads 16 thereof, may be removablyattached Ito therollersqas by being inserted into a screw-threaded opening therein, in which event :the prowisionzof the openings 17 would be unnecessary.
According to the present invention, to prevent access of users to the edge of the pile of sheets in the receptacle 10 there are shown bars 19, 20, each rovided with a slot 21 at each end, which Is adapted to receive a reduced portion of an end of a roller 13, 14. The bars may be placed as shown in Fig. l, interiorly of the sides of the receptacle, or as shown in Fig. 3, exteriorly thereof, as desired.
The bars being thus loosely associated with the rollers will partake in the vertical travel of the rollers as the sheets in the receptacle are reduced in number and will at all times stand opposite to the edges of the upper sheets.
When the receptacle is substantially empty, the bars may be removed or placed in position by the elevation of one of the rollers, whereby to increase the distance between the rollers when a bar which has its slot in contact with an end of one of the rollers, may be inserted to a position where it will engage the end of the other roller as the roller is moved to bring the level of the two rollers into the same plane.
Minor changes may be made in the physical embodiment of the invention without departing from its spirit.
I claim:
1. A device for dispensing paper sheets, comprising a receptacle, weights guided for travel within said receptacle and adapted to rest upon sheets therein, a pair of bars connected with said weights to travel therewith, and means to hold said bars at all times at the edges of and in a plane substantially perpendicular to and in overlapping relation with the upper sheet in the receptacle.
2. A device for dispensing paper sheets, comprising, in combination, areceptacle, weights adapted to lie upon the contents of said receptacle in spaced relation, means to guide said weights for vertical travel in the receptacle, a pair of bars having slots in their ends adapted to engage the ends of each of said weights, whereby to retain the bars in vertical positions at the edges of and in overlapping relation to the upper sheets of the pile, said bars traveling with the Weights in their vertical movement as the pile of sheets is reduced.
3. A device'for dispensing paper sheets, comprising, in combination, a receptacle, a pair of Weights having reduced end portions, said Weights adapted to lie upon a pile of sheets in the receptacle, sides of said receptacle having vertical slots to receive said reduced portions whereby to guide the Weights forvertical travel, a pair of bars having slots in their end portions, said slots eagaging the reduced portions of said 'Weig'htS adjacent said guiding slots and said last named mean-s retained in planes 7 perpendicular to the planes of the sheets i and in positions at the edges of and in overlapping relation to the plane of the'topmost sheetat all times. r I i EMIL J. HANSEN.
