MEASURING BOARD OR CHART FOR PORTABLE GARMENT DRIERS Filed Sept, 13, 1928 INVENTOR.
TEZa im? 1752221?? BY E@ TTORNEY' Patented Oct. 3.1, 1933 MEASURING BOARD .OR CHART FOR 'PORT- ABLE vGIARMENT DRIERS Blaine Kelley, Charlotte, N. C.
Application september 13, 192s Serial No. 305,803 I 1 Claim. (Cl. 337-2) This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in measuring boards or charts for portable garment driers or the like and has for its primary object to provide a measuring chart to determine the exact dimensions of a garment such as its length, bust, waist and sleeve measurements before being cleaned so that when the garrnient is placed on the portable drier, the same may be'- stretched, if shrunk during the cleaning operation, to its original dimensions to insure delivery or return of the garment after the cleaning operation in its orginal size.`
In addition,A the chart may be used for measuring garments separate from a cleaning or drying apparatus, such as in the tailoring art, and in each instance after measurements are taken of the original garment, a card or tag to be attached to the garment carries indicia that may be suitably marked to determine various proportions or measurements of the garment.
With the above and other objects that will be-` come apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists of a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be more fully described in detail and then claimed.
In the accompanying drawing which shows the.v
preferredv embodiment of the present invention,
Figure 1 is a front elevational view'of a, chart or measuring board for a garment for use inv connection with a portable garment drier showing the suspended garment in dotted line position for determining bust and Waist measurements and in full line position for determining the length of the garment and sleeves, f
Figure 2 is an edge elevational view of the measuring chart,
Figure 3 is a plan View of a garment tag .havingY length, bust, waist and sleeve measurements printed thereon to be properly marked and associated with the garment to be later cleaned.
The measuring chart comprises a standard 1 supported upon feet 2 with a measuring chart .or boardl 3 suitably secured to the standard 1 adjacent its upper end. The measuringv face of Vthe board may be finished in any desired material, preferably ofr a waterproof nature and is crosslined as at 4 both horizontally andl vertically representative of linear measurements, the vertical lines preferably indicating half inch measurements while the horizontal lines represent one inch measurements, the upper edge of the board 3 and the left side thereof having graduations 5.'
Before cleaning the garment G, the same is first measured as illustrated in Figure y1 so that should any vshrinkage occur during the cleaning operation, the .garment may be thereafter stretched toits normal measurements. The garment G is suspended over the `face of the chart or board 3 by the hanger 6 that is engaged by a hook 'I carried by the chain 8 which passes over the vpin l9 at the upper end of the standard 1 with the end of the cord or chain 1 anchored as at 10 to the upper edge of the measuring board. The transverse measurements on the board extend or begin from the rightvhand side thereof While thev length measurements begin at the upper end thereof and in order to obtain a bust or waist measurement of the garment G, the
latter is' shiftedlaterally as indicated by dotted 'l lines in Figure 1 to obtain the correct measurements. When the garment is vertically sus- 'pended as illustrated by full lines in Figure 1,
the length of the garment and alsothev sleeves is determined, it being noted that the standard 1 is graduated in inch measurements as at 11. 'A block 12 is carried by an upper corner of the measuring boardy 3 with a pencil 13 suspended therefrom, the block` 12 carrying a pin 14 upon which the garment tag 15 shown in Fig. 3, is suspended. The vgarment tag 15 is vertically lined and captioned to represent measurements of the garment comprising lthe length, bust;
waist and sleeve measurements with each column of the garment tag having suitable `characters printed `designating standard measurements with spaces for special measurements. The several garment measurements may be either checked opposite the desired character or the card perforated with a hand punch so that after the garment has beenacleaned, original measurements thereof are found on the garment tag associated therewith.
While there are herein described the preferredv `from the upper end of the standard with the standard graduations located below the lower end of the chart, means for holding a garment in front of said chart whereby its measurements may be read from the chart andthe over-al1 length of the suspended garment extending below the chart may be determined.
