Description

0a. 3, 1933. R. L MASON 1,929,364
DI SPLAY DEVICE Original Filed Oct. 13, 1930 a 3\[ I I aa v SPA (3E F012 AD Robert L.Masolz A :9 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Oct. 3, 1933 mural).
"r, :92;es 1* DISPLAY DEVICE Robert L. Mason, Pittsburgh, Pal, assignbr'to 7 James W. Critchfield, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Application October 13, 1930, Serial No. 488,446 Renewed August 22, 1933 2 Claims.
This invention relates to display devices, and its general object is to provide a tray for displaying merchandise on a storeor shop counter and the like, as well as for the purpose .of re- 7 5 ceiving change for a customer after a sale or the 7 1 5 Another object of the invention is to providea device of the character set forth, that is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and V efiicient in operation and service.
This invention also consists in certain other. features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure l is a top plan view of the device which forms the subject matter of the present invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 22 of Figure 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is a front elevation of my device.
Figure 4 is a sectional view illustrating a manner of connecting a portion of the device with the base thereof.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the refer- 1 ence numeral 1 indicates the base of my device which is preferably formed from rubberor similar resilient material or composition, and as will be noted upon inspection of Figures 1 and 2, it is relatively thin and flat, as well as being substantially rectangular in shape, with converging side 4 walls and rounded ends.
The forward end which for distinction is indicated by the reference numeral 2 is rounded to a greater degree than therearward end'so that the forward end can be readily distinguished as :Wlll
be apparent.
Formed with the base 1 in a manner tobe dis posed adjacent the side edges thereof as well as the rearward edge, and also rising from adjacent the center of the base are knobs 3 which include shanks and enlarged heads as will be noted upon inspection of Figure 4. These knobs are formed from the same material as the base, and are adapted to detachably receive lugs 4 which are formed with the'body member 5 of the device, the lugs being provided with openings to 'accommo- -6 0 date the knobs as clearly shown in Figure 2 of the drawing. v
The body member may be formed of sheet metal and includes an inclined top wall 6 which merges at its forward end into a forward extending front wall '7. The side walls of the body member follow the shape of the side walls of the base, and the rear wall follows the shape of the rearward edge of the base as will be noted upon inspection of Figure l. I
The top wall 6 asshown is provided with elongated openings Sand these openings are adapted to receive like shape container members 9, the latter being provided with lugs 10 which are riveted-or'otherwise secured to the top wall 6. by 7 suitable securing means 11 in a manner whereby these container members are disposed below the surface of the top wall and held suspended in spaced relation with respect to the base as clearly shown in Figure 2. The container members may. be formed from the same material as the body member, but in any event are adapted to receive package confections such as chewing gum or the like. I
While advertising matter may be placed on the 8 device at any appropriate place desired, it ismy intention that suitable advertising matter be. disposed upon the forwardly extending front wall 7, as well as upon a space 12 primarily designed for that purpose, thespace being retained in a smooth condition, while the remaining portion of the base especially forwardly beyond the body member is serrated as at 13, it being. apparent that the serrations will have a tendency to retain change such as silver and the like and therefore I prevent the latter from rolling or casually sliding from the base.
From the above description'and disclosure of the drawing, it will be obvious that I have pro- 100 vided a combined merchandise display and change receiving device that is extremely useful for thefore the device will callthe attention'of a casual observer tolthe merchandise.
It is thought from the foregoing description '110 that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is: I I 1. A combined merchandise display and change receiving device comprising a base, a body member detachably secured to the base and having an inclined top wall formed with openings, con
tainer members disposed below said openings, lugs formed with said container members and ace openings therein, resilient pliable knobs formed 1 withthe base andreceived in said openings for detachably securing the body member to said base, and open top containers arranged in said body member and secured to and depending from the top of the latter.
ROBERT L. MASON.
