RECEPTACLE FOR SAFETY RAZOR BLADES Filed Jan. 30, 1931 A7- NE) Patented May 23, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PHILIP I. WILLIAIS, OI GLASTONBUBY, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOB TO THE J. B.
WILLIAMS CODA, OI GLASTONBUBY, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION 01' CON- BECEPTAOLE FOB SAFETY RAZOR B ADE Application fled January 30, 1831. serial No. 512,278.
My invention relates to receptacles arranged to receive unused safety razor blades so that they may bereadily accesslble and also to receive safety razor blades after they have become worthless from use.
One form of a receptacle embodying my invention and in the construction an use of which the objects herein set out, as well as others, may be attained, is illustrated in the accompanyin drawing, in wh1ch Figure 1 is a ont view of my improved receptacle.
Figure 2 is an edge view of the same.
Figure 3 is a rear view.
Figure 4 is a view in central vertlcal section.
Figure 5 is an isometric view, scale enlar ed.
1%; the accompanying drawmg the numeral 6 denotes the box of my improved receptacle that may be of any desired shape, that herein shown having rounded corners, and it is preferably composed of metal. A bottom 7 is provided in any ordinary manner and a slot 8 is formed in the front wall. This slot is ositioned at a distance from the bottom su stantially equal to the length of the safet razor blades in common use, that is, so t at said blades may be inserted throu h the slot without one end pro'ecting theret rough when the other end reac bottom of the box,
A supplemental receptacle 9 is formed in the top of the box, the bottom of this supplemental receptacle being located somewhat above the slot 8. This supplemental receptacle is preferably formed from a single sheet of metal that is stamped to proper shape to fit within the top of the box 6, and the receptacle is secured to the box by means of a seamed joint. This supplemental receptacle is of a depth to receive a package 10 usually consisting of ten ordinary safet razor blades 20. A cover 11 is attached to the box near its upper edge as by means of a hinge which, in the form herein shown, comprises a knuckle 12 formed by pressing a portion of the box outwardl as shown in Figure 4. Knuckles 13 are ormed on the edge of "the cover, extending downwardly es thetherefrom and on o posit sides of the knuckle 12, and a pintle 14 extends through the knuckles to pivotally attach the cover in place. I catch 15 may be formed in a manner similar to that of the knuckle 12, this catch being located in the flan e 16 and on the front edge of the cover. his catch will be sufiiciently resilient to enga e the bead 17 formed on the upper edge of the cover, and as shown in Figure 5 of the drawing. A finger tab 18 projects downwardly at the front edge of the cover adjacent to the catch 15, this finger tab being slightly outturned at its lower end so that it may be grasped by the fingers for the purpose of disengaging the catch from the bead.
While the depression com rising the supplemental receptacle 9 may be of a depth to completely receive the safety razor blade package, yet, in that form of the structure shown herein and which is preferred by me, the recess 19 in the cover 1s of a depth to receive and enclose a portion of said package, this recess in. the cover being of such depth as to, in connection with the receptacle 9 in the box, complete the receptacle so that it will be large enough to receive the package 10.
In accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes I have described the principles of operation of my invention, to ether with the device which I now consi er to represent the best embodiment thereof; but I desire to have it understood that the device shown is only illustrative, and that the invention may be carried out by other means and applied to uses other than those above set out.
I claim:
1. A safety razor blade receptacle including a metallic box having a permanently closed bottom and an upper end, a cover hinged. to the upper end of the box, a supplemental shallow receptacle set into the upper end of the box with the edges of the receptacle permanently beaded with the upper edges of the box to provide a closed compartment at the lower end of the box,, the cover overlying the edges when in closed position on the box, the cover cooperating with the shallow receptacle to provide an article receiving chamber and a side wall of the box having a slot therein below the supplemental receptacle for the passage of razor blades into the closed compartment.
2. A safety razor blade receptacle including a metallic box having a permanently closed bottom and an upper end, a cover hinged to the upper end of the box, a supplemental shallow receptacle set into the upper end of the box with the edges of the receptacle permanently beaded with the upper edges of the box to provide a closed compart-ment at the lower end of the box the cover overlying the edges when in close position on the box, the cover cooperating wlth the shallow receptacle to provide an article receiving chamber and a side wall of the box having a slot therein below the supplemental receptacle for the passage of razor blades into the closed compartment, the cover having a centrally raised portion to increase the depth of the article receiving chamber and a resilient catch on the free edge of the cover adapted-to be engaged with the beaded edges of the box and receptacle for holding the cover in closed position.
PHILIP KQ WILLIAMS.
