11 Claims.
This invention relates to containers or boxes adapted to hold commodities suchastablets or pills, the principal object of the invention being the production of a box ofsimple construction having means permitting ready access to the contents'of the box, without the necessity of removing or opening a cover member.
To the above. ends the invention consists in the novel box and parts thereof hereinafter more particularly described and then'specifled in theclaims. v g
In the accompanying drawings showing a practical embodiment of the invention:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the box of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the three parts of the box before they have been assembled together.
Fig. .3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1'. Fig. 4 isa section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is aplan view, of a modification.
Fig. 6 is a horizontal section on the line 6-8 of Fi 5. t
Fig. 7' is a vertical cross-section on the line 7-7 of Fig. 5.
Fig. 8 is a perspective view of the three parts of the box of the invention of Fig. 5 before they have been assembled together.
Fig. 9 is a. plan view of a further-modification.
12. 40 Fig. 15 is a perspective view of a further modification.
. Fig. 16 is a perspective view of the three parts of the box shown inFig. 15 before they have been assembled together.
Fig. 17 is a section on the line 17-17 of Fig. 15. Referring in detail to the several figures of the drawings: I 5o 10 indicates the box. body comprising a base flanges 11 while 12 indicates the box cover also comprising a base providedwith'the usual depending flanges 13 adapted to interfit over the flanges 11. The cover. 12 is provided with a slot 14 and an annular opening 15 adjacent a corner thereof as well as with a downwardly projecting lug 16. The flanges 11 of the box body are provided with inwardly extending lugs 17 positioned as illustrated.
A closure plate is indicated at 18. It is pro- Fig. 10 is a horizontal section on the line Fig. 14 is a section on the line 14-14 of Fig.
as shown provided with the usual upstanding vided with. downwardly extending flanges 19 slidablyengaging the base or bottom of the box body as well as the opposed side walls thereof. It hasan upwardly extending pin 20 constituting a linger piece and extending through the slot 14 and it is also provided with a depression 21 forreceiving the lug 16 on the box cover, the two members constituting a detachable lock to hold the closure plate 18 in closed position to cover the opening 15 asshown in Fig. 1. .,When the parts are assembled together the .cover is held to the box body by a very tight frictionalengagement or it is otherwise clinched over said body it being understoodand will be apparent that it is not necessary to remove said cover to obtain access" to the contents of the box. When access is desired, pressure is applied against the finger piece '20 whereuponthe lug v16 will snap out of the depression 21 and the closure plate 18 may then be slid to open position within the box to uncover the opening 15. When the.cover plate is closed. the lug 16 again automatically snaps within the depression 21 to de tachably lock said closureplate in closed'position. Assuming the contents of the box to be pills or tablets, the lugs 17 have been provided to prevent the pill or tablet to be removed from lying in thecorner of .the box and tomake it assume a position in alignment with-theopening In the modification illustrated in Figs. 5 to 8 inclusive we provide the sides offlthe box body ,withshouldered portions 22 within which portions the flanges 19 of the closure plate ride. Otherwise the operation is similar to that ofthe preferred form of the invention.
In the modification illustrated in Figs. 9 to 11 inclusive weprovide a slot 23 somewhat wider than theslot 14 of the preferred form of the invention and having a finger piece 24 mounted on the closure plate for enclosing the opening 15, said finger piece being, by preference, of a shape and size simulating the tablets contained in the box. with advertising matter if so desired.
In the modification illustrated in Figs. 12 to 14 inclusive the box body is provided with a slot 25 registering with a slot 26 in the box cover and the flnger'piece 27 for the closure member is attached to one of its depending flanges '19 and.
rides in said slots.
In the modification illustrated in Figs. 15 to 17 inclusivethe box cover is slotted as at 28 in one of its side members which registers with a similar slot 29 in the box body. In this case we dispense with the opening 15 in the box cover and obtain access to the contents of the box through said slots. The closure member is provided with a finger piece 30 which rides in said slots as in Said finger piece could be markedtightly the case of the modiflcation illustrated in. Figs. 12 to 14 inclusive.
It will be understood also that in some cases we propose to reverse the parts shown in the preferred form of the invention and place the slot 14 and opening 15 in the body portion of the box instead of the cover portion in which case, of course, the position of the closure member 18 would be reversed and its flanges 19 would then ride on the underside of the cover member instead of on the body member. This construction would be used when it was desired to retain all the space on the top of the cover member for lithographing material.
The invention claimed is:
1. A box comprising a cover member and a body member interfltting with each other and provided with an opening in one of said members, a slidable closure member in said box. means for detachably holding said closure member in closed position and means for both depressing the slidable closure for releasing the holding means and for sliding said closure.
2. A box comprising a cover member and a body member interfltting with each" other and provided with an opening in one of said members, a slidable closure member in said box, means for actuating said closure member to open or close said opening and inwardly pressed lugs at opposite sides of said opening adjacent thereto for preventing an article contained in the box from lying in the corner thereof.
3. A box comprising a cover member and a body member interfltting with each other and provided with an opening in one of said members adjacent a corner of the box, a slidable closure member in said box, means for actuating said closure member to open or close said opening, said box providing side walls meeting at the corner provided with said opening, and inwardly pressed lugs in said meeting side walls adjacent said opening for locating an article contained in th box at the opening and cause it to assume a position in alignment with said opening.
4. A box comprising a cover member and a body member interfltting with each other and provided with an opening in one of said members adjacent a corner of said box, a slidable closure member in said box, means for actuating said closure member to open or close said opening and inwardly pressed lugs in said box adiacent the corner in which said opening is located.
5. A box comprising a flanged cover member and a flanged body member interfltting with each other and provided with an opening in one one of said members adjacent a corner of said box and with a slot in one of said members, a
slidable closure member slidable against opposite flanges of one of said members, a pin extending from said closure member and through said slot and providing an actuator to cause said closure-member to open or close said opening, cooperating means on said closure member and on one of said body or cover members to detachably hold said closure member in closed position and inwardly pressed lugs on one of said body or cover members in the corner of said box adjacent the aforesaid opening.
6. A box comprising a flanged cover member and a flanged body member interfltting with and engaging each other" substantialLv throughout the depth of said flanges with a flange of each member provided with a slot registering with a slot in the other member, a slidable closure member in said box and means extending laterally from said closure member and through said slots to move longitudinally thereof for opening and closing the same.
7. A box comprising a cover member and a body member interfltting with each other, one of said members being provided with an opening therein and one of said members being provided with a shouldered portion, a slidable closure member in said box, means for actuating said closure member to open or close said opening and a flanged guiding member on said closure member extending within said shouldered portion and adapted to ride therein and on the base of one of said members when said closure member is actuated.

I
9.'A box comprising a cover member and a body member interfltting with each other and provided with an opening in one of said members, each of said members comprising a base having flanges extending therefrom to form walls, a slidable closure member inside of the inner of said members and flanges thereof and comprising a plate having projecting flanges slidably engaging flatwise against the inner sides of a pair of the opposedflanges of the inner member and with longitudinal edges of the closure flanges slidably engaging the base of one of said members, and means for actuating said closure member to open or close said opening.
