aclaims. (Cl. 206-42) This invention relates to containers adapted to two depressions l6 adjacent either end of the hold tablets or other commodities and hasfor its groove l5. 1 The base ofthe body is also pressed principal object the production of a container of upwardly to form a runway I1 coinciding with novel and simple construction, and preferably the;opening l3.
formed of sheet metal, which shall be so designed The cover is indicated at l8. It is provided 5 as to permit easy access to its contents when so with a downwardly depending flange l9 adapted desired and which may be closed at will by a to i'nterfit over the flange I2 and it is cut away to simple movement to prevent loss of its contents. form an opening 20 adapted to registerwith the A further object of the invention is the proopening 13 and with pins or lugs 2| which are duction of a container of ,the above character adapted to ride within the grooves l4 and which 16 which shall be provided with automatic holding also serve the function of preventing removal of means for holding it in open or closed position. the cover from the body without the application To the above ends the invention consists in the of considerable force. adapted to register with a similar opening cut through the flange of the cover.
Inthe modification of Figs. 8 to 11 inclusive the grooves or slots in the. body members and the lugs or pins in the cover members are not shown as they have heretofore been fully described in connection with the preferred form of the invention. One of the lugs or pins in the flange of the cover is indicated at 29 and-the opening in the cover is indicated at 30. These modifications merely show different assemblies between the covers and bodies.
In Fig. 8 the lower body is beaded as at 3| and the flange adjacent said bead is grooved as at 32. The lower end of the flange of the cover is inwardly turned as at 33 and rides within said groove 32 whilethe upper end of the flange of the body is straight and rides against the corner of the cover.
The construction of Fig. 9 is somewhat similar with the exception that the upper end of the flange of the body is headed as at 34, the lower end of the flange of the cover being also beaded as at 35.
In the construction of Fig. 10 the flangeof the body is depressed inwardly as at 36, its extreme end being turned inwardlyas at 31 and riding against the underside of the cover. The flange of the cover is rounded as at 38 to engage the shoulder formed by the end 31- and then straightened as at 39 to form a straightened portion which rides within the depression 36.
In the modification of Fig. 11 the flange of the body is grooved as at 40 and its extreme end is turned. inwardly as at 4| and rides against the underside of the cover. The lower end of the flange of the cover is beaded as at 42 and rides within the groove 40.
In themodiflcation of Figs. 12 and 13 one retaining member only -is provided comprising a lug or pin 43 onthe flange of the cover and a depression 44 on the flange of the body. On
either side of the depression are the grooves 45 so that the lug or pin 43 may be snapped into the depression 44 and to ride in either of the grooves 45 depending on the direction of rotation of the cover. In'this case also the contents of the container is removed through an opening 46 in the top of the cover which is closed or opened when the cover is rotated by a closure member 41 extending inwardly from the top edge of the flange of the body.
Various other modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
What we claim as our invention is:
1. In a metallic container, a body member provided with an upstanding flange and base and a rotatable cover member provided with a depending flange interfitting with said first-named flange, one of said flanges being provided with a plurality of spaced grooves pressed from the metal of said flange and the other with lugs riding within said grooves to limit the degree of rotation of said cover member and to prevent removal of said cover member from said body memher, said flanges each being provided with openings adapted to register with each other to permit access to the contents of the container and means extending from and forming a portion of the base of said body member and'meeting the opening in said upstanding flange to facilitate the removal of the contents of the container when both openimgs are in registry.
2. In a. container, a body member provided with an upstanding flange and base and a rotatable cover member provided with 21. depending flange interfltting with said first-named flange, said flanges each having openings therein adapted to register with each other, means on said flanges cooperating with each other to permit rotation of said cover member and to prevent removal of said cover member from said body member and means extending from and forming a portion of the base of said body member and meeting the opening insaid upstanding flange to facilitate the removal of the contents of the container when both openings are in registry.
3. In a container, 2. body member provided with an upstanding flange and a rotatable cover member provided with a depending flangeinterfitting with said flrst-named flange and both of said flanges having openings adapted to register with each other, said body member having an inclined runway pressed upwardly from its base and directed toward the opening in itsflange.
