SAMPLE DISPLAY FOLDER Filed Aug. 15, 1934 2 sheets-Sheet 2 ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 12, 1935 PATENT fvortici?.
` SAMPLE DISPLAY FOLDER ',tto Kretchmer, Newark, N. J., assigner to Imperial Manufacturing poration of New Jersey as a folder for conveniently and readily displaying samples of stationary, carbon, paper and the like.
Heretofore, various grades of carbon paper have been carried by salesmen in a folder in a manner such that a prospective purchaser had no ymeans for readily determining the qualities and advantages of various grades of paper and consequently was at a loss as to which grade would be the most effective for his particular purpose. Such a manner of selling carbon paper or stationary has been found objectionable, and many times through no fault of the salesman or the purchaser, a purchaser has been supplied with a grade of paper which was decidedly unsuited for his particular business.
It is an object of this invention to provide a folder for conveniently displaying various grades of carbon paper or stationary so that a customer can ascertain at a glance the qualities and advantages of the grades of paper displayed and thereby choose the paper best suited for his particular use. y
A further object is the provision of a folder in book form having a plurality of pages of varying heights so that the designation of all the pages can be visible simultaneously, and each page having a pocket carrying samples of the merchandise designated on that page.
These and other advantageous objects, which will later appear, are accomplished by the simple and practical construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and exhibited in the acompanying drawings, forming part hereof, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the folder when opened,
Fig. 2 is a view of a blank used for forming a sheet and pocket for the folder,
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a sheet and pocket indicating the manner in which they are formed from the blank shown in Fig. 2,
l Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a display folder when opened,
Fig. 5 is a prespective view of the folder when closed, and
Fig. 6 is a plan view of the folder looking downwardly from the top thereof when the folder is opened.
Referring to the drawings, the display device is shown to comprise a folder in book form having a cover 1, a first set of leaves 2, and a second set of leaves 3, the leaves being secured along their center lines to the cover, thereby providing sub- Co., Newark, N. J., a cor- 1934, serial No. '139,522 (o1. 12s-1) stantially four leaves, when the folder is closed.
The leaves 2 extend substantially the full length of the cover, while leaves 3 are shorter than leaves 2 so that portions of leaves 2 are visible at all times when the book is open.
Each of the leaves is provided with a pocket 4 in which are carried various samples of carbon paper or stationery which are offered for sale. On the pocket is printed the characteristics of the various samples carried by the top of the sheet there is designated the general class of goods carried in the pocket.
As will be seen from the drawings, when the folder is open, on sheets 3 at the top thereof, there is designated the general class of merchandise carried in the pocket in that sheet. At the same time, a portion of sheet 2 is visible, bearing a designation of the general type of merchandise carried in the pocket of sheet 2.
In each pocket there is carried a plurality of small folders 7, eachl folder carrying samples of a particular grade of carbon paper or stationery, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4 of the drawings. In selecting a grade of paper, the customer reads the characteristics of the various papers as printed on the pocket, and then removes from the pocket the small folder carrying the particular grade of paper selected, the small folder having printed thereon the grade of paper which is carried. The customer can then conveniently examine and, if desired, try out the particular grade he has selected to determine if such a grade would be satisfactory for his particular need.
In constructing the display folder, Va sheet of paper is provided with side fiaps 5, and a bottom fiap 6, which flaps are folded back upon the sheet to forma pocket by adhesively securing flaps 5 onto flap. 6. Two or more of the sheets are then placed one upon the other, and folded upon the center lines thereof, after which they are attached along said center lines,4 by means of staples or the like, to a cover. By this means, fromeach sheet there is formed two leaves and two pockets of a display folder. The upper portions of the sheets are simultaneously visible when the folder is opened, as shown in the drawings.
While I have described my folder as containing only the sheets 2 and 3, it is obvious that any number of sheets carrying'. pockets can be used without departing from the spirit of the invention.
From the above description, it will be seen that I have provided a simple and convenient folder the pocket, and at for readily and effectively displaying samples of carbon paper, stationery or the like, so that a customer can readily select the grade or type of paper best suited for his business. By means of my display folder, confusion in selecting grades of paper is avoided as the various grades are separated into small groups, and it is not necessary to finger through a great many grades of paper in order to pick out the proper grade.`
While I have described the folder as being applied to the sales and display of carbon paper and stationery, obviously it can be readily used for the display of other types of iiat merchandise. The foregoing disclosure is to be regarded as descriptive and illustrative only, and not as restrictive or limitative of the invention, of which obviously an embodiment may be constructed including many modifications, without departing from the general scope herein indicated and denoted in the appended claim. y
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a display folder, a cover, a plurality of sheets, each of said sheets having a pocket formed thereon. said cover and sheets together with the pockets thereon being attached and folded along their longitudinal center lines, each pocket adapted to carry a plurality of samples of various grades of thearticle being displayed, each sheet having printed on aportion of the upper part thereof a designation o f the general class of articles carried by the pocket, said sheets decreasing in height from the cover so that when the folder is open the designations on the upper parts of all the sheets are simultaneously visible. and each pocket having printed thereon designations of the various grades of the article carried by the pocket.
