l '6 claims'. (ol. 1084-16) This invention relates to improvementsin skylight bars used in supporting glass panesv and the like in skylight constructions. Y
An object of the invention is to provide an improved form of skylight bar which may be easily and cheaply constructed and installed in position and which is adequately strong for the'purpose intended.
Another object of the invention is to provide a skylight bar, a portion of which is T shaped in cross section and which is fabricated from several parts, one of which provides not only flanges and a web for the bar but also provides gutters to rei ceive condensate.
With the foregoing and other objects in View, which will be made manifest in the following detailed description, and specifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference is had to the accompanying drawing for an illustrative embodiment of the invention, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a partial view in side elevation, illustrating the improved skylight bar.
Fig. 2 is a partial view in perspective, illustrating the improved construction.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, wherein similar reference characters designate similar parts throughout, the improved skylight bar consists of a section of sheet metal bent to provide a bottom 10, upwardly extending parallel sides 11 and 12 constituting web forming portions which have their upper ends bent outwardly as at 13 and 14 to provide anges. A relatively heavy strip of metal 15 is vertically disposed between the parallel sides 11 and 12 and forms the web proper, serving to stiffen the entire construction. The outer ends of the flange forming portions 13 and 14 are reversely bent as at 16 and 17 so that the flanges are of double thickness and these portions are then bent downwardly adjacent the web forming portions 11 and 12. They are then bent outwardly as indicated at 18 and 19 to form gutters which project outwardly beyond the anges. The flanges are fastened together by a flange embracing sheet metal member 20 positioned on top of the flange forming portions 13 and 14 and having its sides bent around the reverse bends 16 and 17. On top of the flange embracing sheet metal member 20 there may be positioned one or more layers of felt or equivalent material 21 which support i the adjacent edges of adjacent glass panes 22 and 23. A cover 24 formed of sheet metal is positioned over the joint between the edges of the panes, this cover being in the form of an inverted channel, the edges of which are bent upwardly and inward- 'g' ly as at 25, over which lead flashings 26 extend.
Bolts 27 have their heads positioned on top of the web 15, these heads being countersunk in the yder side of the flange embracing member 20. The Shanks of the bolts extend upwardlybetweenthe panes 22 and 23 and vthrough the cover 24 at about the center. Nuts 28 are screwed onto the bolts and serve to tighten the cover and panes on the lower structure.
From the above described construction it Will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that the improved skylight bar is of relatively simple construction and may be easily manufactured and the parts assembled. A skylight bar comprising a vertically disl posed web forming bar, a sheet metal member positioned beneath the bottom edge of the bar andextending upwardly against its sides, said sheet metal member being bent outward from the top of the bar providing flanges extending transversely from opposite sides of the bar, a second sheet metal member connecting the flanges over the top thereof and on which panes may be positioned, a cover over the panes, and connectingmeans connecting the cover to the second sheet metal member.
2. A skylight bar comprising a vertically disposed web forming bar, a sheet metal member positioned beneath the bottom edge of the bar and extending upwardly against its sides, said sheet metal member being bent outward from the top of the bar providing horizontal flanges on opposite sides of the bar, a second sheet metal member positioned on top of the flanges and bent around the edges of the lianges over which panes .may be positioned, a cover for the joint between the panes, and means connecting the cover between the panes to said second sheet metal member.
3. A skylight bar comprising a vertically disposed Web forming bar, a sheet metal member positioned beneath the bottom edge of the bar and extending upwardly against its sides, said sheet metal member being bent outward from -the top of the bar providing horizontal flanges loo its

member being reversely bent at the outer edges of the flanges and then downwardly adjacent the sides of the web and iinally outwardly forming gutters, means connecting the flanges across the top of the web adapted to have panes positioned thereover, a cover for the joint between the panes, and connecting means connecting the cover to the flange connecting means.
4. A skylight bar comprising a vertically disposed web forming bar, a sheet metal member positioned beneath the bottom edge of the bar and extending upwardly against its sides, said sheet metal member being bent outward from the top of the bai` providing horizontal flanges on opposite sides of the bar, said sheet metal member being reversely bent at the outer edges of the anges and then downwardly adjacent the sides of the web and nally outwardly forming gutters located above the bottom of the web, means connecting the anges across the top of the web adapted to have panes positioned thereover, a cover for the joint between the panes, and connecting means connecting the cover to the flange connecting means.
5. lA skylight bar comprising a sheet metal member bent to provide two vertical web forming portions having outwardly bent horizontal Iianges at their tops, said flanges being reversely bent and having portions extending downwardly adjacent the web forming portions which are bent outwardly to form gutters, means connecting the flanges, said flanges serving to support adjacent edges of adjacent panes, a cover over the joint between the edges, and means connecting the cover to the flange connecting means.
6. A skylight bar comprising a sheet metal member bent to provide two vertical web forming portions having outwardly bent horizontal anges at their tops, said flanges being reversely bent and having portions extending downwardly adjacent the web forming portions which are bent outwardly to form gutters, means connecting the flanges, said anges serving to support adjacent edges of adjacent panes, a cover over the joint between the edges, means connecting the cover to the flange connecting means, and stiffening means between the web forming portions.
