1 Claim. (01. 173-259) The present invention relates to a battery terminal clamp and has for its prime object to provide a device of this nature which is exceedingly simple in its construction, easy to manipulate,

5 thoroughly efiicient and reliable in use and operation, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.

Referring to the drawings'in detail it will be seen that numeral 5 denotes an elongated body formed on the inner side adjacent one end with a semi-cylindrical pocket or recess 6 and from said end extends an ear '7 which is provided with a threaded aperture. The other end of the body 5 extends laterally and terminates in an overlapping hook like extension 8. From said other end suitable coupling 10 may be used for engaging a cable with the clamp. Numeral 11 denotes a detachable section having on its inner side a semicylindrical recess or pocket 12 to be disposed opposite the pocket 6 so that battery post 14 may be received therein. From the end adjacent the recess 12 the detachable section 11 is provided withan ear 15 having an opening 16 therethrough larger in diameter than the threaded ope i of countersunk as at 17. This opening is oblong rather than round as clearly illustrated in Figure 6. Numeral 18 denotes a bolt having the usual head 19' and the usual threaded portion 20. It is thought that the construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be clearly understood by those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.

It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is: A battery post clamp comprising a pair of elongated members having straight inner faces and each member having a recess in an intermediate part of its inner face, said recesses being adapted to receive a battery post, a hook formed on one member at one end thereof, the hook extending outwardly from the straight or flat face of the member, with the inner wall of the hook curving outwardly and toward the recess from said flat face, with the end of the hook rounded, the corresponding end of the other member curving outwardly and toward the recess therein from the flat or straight face of said other member andthe outer face of said other member having a recess therein adjacent its curved end for receiving the rounded end of the hook when the two members are swung away from each other, the curved end of said other member engaging the curved wall of the hook, the hook and said curved end beingspaced a considerable distance from the recess parts to permit swinging movement of said other member toward and away from the post, and a bolt passing through the members adjacent the other ends thereof, said bolt passing through a plain elongated hole in one member and a threaded hole in the other, said bolt having a collar thereon for engaging a part ofthe inner face of the member having the plain hole therein, the inner end of the elongated hole being formed with a rounded countersink and the collar having a rounded face fitting in the countersink.
