FIGURE WHEELED TOY Filed July 18, 1935 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Inventor Iii? fiaw flllomey Patented Jan. 9, 1934 UNITED S ATES Application July 18, 1933.
2 Claims.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in figure toys.
It is the principal object of my invention t provide a simple, strong and instructive figure toy which will imitate both the body and leg movement of an animal such as a rabbit when running. The parts of the toy by which these movements are achieved are few in number, and are simply made and connected so that it may be constructed at small cost.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section through a toy embodying the features of my invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view thereof.
Figure 4 is a front elevation thereof, and
Figure 5 is an enlarged detail section taken substantially on the line 55 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes a body platform with longitudinal side depending flanges 6 and end depending flanges 7. An axle 8 extends through the flanges 6 and has front wheels 9 rotatable thereon. A crank shaft 10 is rotatably mounted in the flanges 6 with the crank portion therebetween. Rear wheels 11 are fixed to the ends of this crank shaft.
Numeral 12 denotes a body formed to simulate an animal such as a rabbit and has depending therefrom a front leg structure 14. Numerals 1515 denote rear leg structures one to each side of the body pivoted to the body as at 16 and pivoted as at 17 to a bracket 18 rising from the body 5. The body platform 5 is provided with a longitudinally extending slot 19 in the forward portion thereof. Numeral 20 denotes a connecting rod with a sleeve 21 at one end about the crank portion of the crank shaft 10. The other end of the connecting rod 20 is split as at 22 and terminates in a pair of spaced alined sleeves 23 disposed about a pin 24. A pair of plates P are slidable in the slot 19. Each plate P oomprises a lower vertical portion 25 merging into an intermediate outwardly extending portion 26 folded on itself and terminating in a rising extension 27. The leg structure 14 is fixed between the extension 27. The portions 25 are in abut ment and the pin extends through alined openings therein.
When this structure is pulled along, obviously, the rotation of the rear wheels imparts a sliding movement to the plates P thereby imparting a sliding. movement to the rabbit like animal body Serial No. 681,009
12 and the pivotal connection of the rear leg structure 15 with the platform 5 and the animal body gives the animal body a movement similar to the hop like running of a rabbit.
It is thought that the construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for w the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. In a wheeled figure toy of the class described, a platform having a slot, wheels, means for mounting the platform on the wheels, a pair of plates slidable in the slot, each plate comprising a lower vertical portion merging at its upper end into an outwardly extending portion folded on itself and terminating in arising extension, the first mentioned portions being in abutment with each other and a pin extending therethrcugh, means operatively connecting the pin with the wheel structure to impart a sliding movement to the plate in the slot when the toy is moved, and a figure mounted on the platform and having a portion extending between the extensions of the plate to move therewith, rear leg structures, means for pivoting the structures on the platform, and means for pivoting the structures on the body.
2. A saddle for use on a wheeled figure toy wherein the toy has a platform formed with a slot, a figure, wheels, means for mounting the platform on the wheels, and means operatively connecting the saddle for reciprocating movement by the wheels when the toy is in motion; comprising a pair of plates slidable in the slot, each plate comprising a lower vertical portion merging at its upper end into an outwardly extending portion folded on itself and terminating in a rising extension, the first mentioned portions being in abutment with each other, and the pin extending therethrough, said last mentioned means being connected with the pin, and the figure having a portion extending between the extension to move therewith.
