rl`his invention relates to toy airplanes and has for its object the production of a simple and efficient construction which will be light and durable and which may be manufactured 5 at a minimum cost.
Another object of this invention is the production of a simple and ecient toy airplane which is provided with a special tail structure especially designed for cheapness of 30 structure and also especially designed for stability.
A further object of this inventionris the production of a simple and efficient means for forming and bracing the. tail piece of the 2.5 toy airplane so as to provide a wide flaring fin at the rear end of the body to add stability to the airplane and facilitate the proper sailing thereof through the air.
With these and other objects in view, this `2G invention consists in certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be. hereinafter fully described and claimed.

Figure 5 is a section taken on line 5 5 of Figure 1.
By referring to the drawing, it will be seen that 1 designates the fuselage or body of the airplane which supports near the front end thereof the transversely extending wing' structure 2. The body 1 is provided with a depending forward portion 3 which carries a rearwardly extending arm 4, which rearwardly extending arm 4 supports the axle 5 upon which the wheels 6 are carried. The
forward end of the body 1 carries an imitation air-cooled engine 7 and a suitable rotating propeller blade 8.
The body or fuselage 1 comprises a longitudinally extending plate 9 which extends the full length of thel fuselage or body 1 and entends well into the tail 10. The'wing structure 2 is braced upon the body by means of a pair of vertically extending bracing members 11 which lit upon the opposite sides of the longitudinally extending plate 9 and supports ananchoring pin 12, which anchoring pin 12 extends through the bracing strip 13 carried by the wing structure 2, as shown clearly in Figure 5. The bracing member 13 extends longitudinally of the length of the wing struc-ture 2 and is provided with tapering ends 14 which are secured tothe trans-- verse bracing ribs or strips 15 which ribs 15 are secured across the ends of the wing structure 2. The entire wing structure 2, as well as the body 1 is covered with a suitable paper or other covering 16, to provide the desired shape for the wings and body structure. Upon thebody structure 1 may be mounted suitable decorative pictures 17 as shown clearly in Figure 1 of the drawing.
y' A tail skidl 18 is secured near the rear end of the body and at the point of `junction yof the tail piece 10 with the body, and this tail skid 18 is inclined rearwardly toward its lower end and provided with a curved underface 19 upon the lower end of the tail skid.Y The upper end of the tail skid 18, however, is bifurcated to straddle the plate 9 of the body 1, the bifurcated `portion being indi- Y cated by the numeral 20. The bifurcated end is wrapped, as indicated at 21, with cord or other flexible means, and is also wrapped at its upper A end with a suitable cord or other flexible means 22. A pin 23 also passes through the upper bifurcated end of the tail skid 18.
The tail piece 10 flares outwardly toward its rear end, as clearly shown in Figure 2, and is preferably formed of a pair of bendablev strips 24 which extend longitudinally of either side of the body 1, as shown clearly in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing, from a point near the front end of the lbody toward i a point adjacent the tail skid 18. These bendable-strips 24 are then bent to extend upon either side of the tail skidv 18 and lia-re voutwardly-to constitute side braces for the ,-tail piece 10. tail piece l0, as well as the rudders 27 and 28 are covered by a suitable paper covering 29, as clearly shown in the drawing.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that a very simple and eicient means has been provided for constructing a toy airplane which will be cheap and durable in its construction. For the purpose of operating the toy airplane, a swinging loop 30 is employed having diverging ends 3l which are secured near the front and rear portions of the body l. A suitable loop 32 is provided at they end of the swinging cord 30 and in operation, an operator will place hisfinger through the loop 32 and by swinging the cord 30 around and over his head, the airplane will Hy and glide through the air as it is in this manner propelled, and at the sametime produce somewhat of a zooming sound, simulating the sound of an airplane motor.
It should be understood that certain detailed chanesin the mechanical construction may be emptloyed without departing from the spirit of the invention so long as these changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
