My invention relates toa gun stock recoil pad andiparticularly to a recoil pad having resilient cushioning means at the rear or shoulder side of thegaiter and also having .resilient ,means longitudinally adjacent the proximal edges of the gaiter sides and on the inside surface thereof, said gaiter being adaptedto be fitted and secured upon the rear end of a gun stock.

.The object ofthis invention is the provision of a gun recoil pad having convenient means Yfoi-.seeming the pad on the gun stock such as azipper.

A further'object of my invention is the provision of means to render a recoil pad of al uniform and unchanging dimension adaptableto snugly and firmly fit gun stocks ,of

'varying taper.

Anotherimportant object of the invention is `the :provision of a gun recoil pad lia-ving resilient cushioning means adjacent its clos ingfmeans and on; its sides to hold the sides of the `pad 4gait'er taut and firm about a gun stock, thereby preventing movement of the .gun -s'toclrwithinthe pad when the gun is be- ;ing fired.

A further important object of the'invention is the provision of means within the pad gaitertoprotectrthe gun stocksurface against scratching of vari ousk fastening means.

As shown on the drawings:

The reference numeral 10 indicates a portion of a gun stock of conventional shape protruding from ya recoil device 11. Lying against the end of the gun stock 10 and heldiirmly thereagainst is a cushion. 12 of sponge rubber or like resilient material., said cushion 12 being secured to and held in place'within a ga-iter-l by' gluing or other securingfmeans.

Corresponding in size and shape to therear face of the cushion 12 is a gaiter-backvla which is preferably glued vvto the rearffa'ce of cushion 12 and has its peripheral edge secured to the circumferential edge' of lthe gaiter 13, thereby forming a receptacle for-- the gun stock 10.

The gaiter 13 is of smaller circumference at its forward than at its rearend to conform to the shape of the butt portion 'of a gun stock and is preferably' made of soft pliable material such as leather'. Said gaiter has a longitudinal opening 15 extending from'the forward peripheral edge to a point' near the forward face of cushion 12. The opposing members 16 and 17 of a zipper are attached to the proximal edges of said fgaiter side in the following manner..v To each ofthe opposing zipper members 16 and 1-7 are stitched fabric strips 18 and 19"resp`ectively, which extend the full length of each zipper member, said strips 18 and 19 having' their kfree longitudinal edges stitched to the adjacent edges of the gaiter side. The zipperis` closed in a manner well known in the'art. The foregoing construction provides a convenient closing means for connecting the adjacent edges of the gait'er sideto secure the'recoil `device upon a gun stock. y

As shown in Fig.v 3, resilient pads 23:, preferably of sponge rubber, 4are cemented or glued to the inside surface of the g'aiter 41??, on each side thereof and serve as additional means to hold the gaiter and recoil devicetaut about the gun stock and to 'render ift adjustable to fit varying sizes of gun stocks.

til() Gun stocks of different manufacturers differ 1n size and taper, and 1n order to provide an adjustable recoil device having zipper closing and securing means and which will snugly it gun stocks of varying taper I provide the following construction.
