Description

\ O. ALTENBACH NAIL FILE AND SHEATH THEREFOR Dec. 8, 1931.
Filed Aug. 3, 1927 awuewtoz @gaW 33913 QMMMW Patented Dec. 8, 1931 UNITED STATES OTTO ALTENBACH, oF ofiLIGs RHl'NELAND, GERMANY NAIL FILE AND SHEATH THEREFOR Application filed August 3,1927. Serial No. 210,263.
This invention relates to nail files and particularly to nail files provided with handles adapted to serve other related purposes and also to means for retaining protecting sheaths upon the blades of the files.
The objects of this invention and certain features of novelty residing in the particular embodiment disclosed herein by way of example, will be apparent from the the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a nail file with a sheath in position thereon;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the nail file with the sheath removedyand Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1..
Referring more particularly to the drawings wherein like reference characters apply to like parts throughout the several figures, the numeral 10 denotes the blade of a nail file and 11 the handle thereof.
In order that the handle may comfortably fit the hand of the user the same is formed with a curved longitudinal groove; that is, if the stock of the handle is of uniform thickness, a transverse section at any point along its length will be concavo-convex in outline. The handle, as will be readily apparent from the drawings, is well adapted to serve as a shoe horn and it is intended to be used for such purpose.
A sheath 12 of a flexible material provided r with a resilient binding member 13 for keepin g the sheath flat, is adapted to fit upon the blade of the file to prevent the possibility of injury thereby. A flap 14 of the sheath extending beyond the ends of the binding member 13 is provided with a member 15, preferably in the form of asnap button serving in conjunction with an aperture 1.6 in the file to secure the sheath in place.
The instrument, when used as a nail file, is convenient because of the comfortable conmodifications and changes are contemplated and it is desired that the invention be not regarded as limited except by the prior art I and the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A device of the kind described, comprising in combination, a nail file and a sheath therefor, said file having an aperture therein, and said sheath being provided with a member adapted to enter and firmly engage the interior circumferential walls of said aperture to retain the sheath in position.
2. A device of the kind described, comprising in combination, a nail file, a sheath therefor, said file having an aperture therethru and a snap button on said sheath adapted to engage the interior edges of said aperture to retain the sheath on the file.
3. A device of the kind described, comprising in combination, a nail file provided with an aperture in the butt end of the blade thereof, an open-ended closed-pocket sheath for said file, said sheath at its open end including a flexible tab, and a member on said tab adapted to engage the edges of said aperture to retain said sheath in position.
4. The combination of a carrier comprising an elongated member having one end portion thereof provided with a pocket and having a. compressible resilient head projecting from the other end portion thereof, and an instrument comprising an elongated, platelike body having one end portion thereof inserted into said pocket and having an opening in another portion thereof of less diameter than the normal diameter of the head, said head extending through said opening and being exposed beyond the outer surface of 5 said body, and the portion of said body provided with the opening extending outwardly beyond the end portion of said member provided With the head.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification this 1st day of August 1927.
