Another object of the invention is to provide a lock of the spring pressed draw-bolt' type wherein the draw-bolt serves the additional function of a housing or casing for the other operative elements of the lock.

Perforation Z1o which is of substantially U-shape in form provides the draw-bolt with a pin-like lip Z13, in alignment with the axis of recess Z, said lip Z13 being 'adapted to engage within the. end convolutions of spring Z11, while the convolutions at the opposite end of the spring are adapted to engage over the hookslike lip a on the cover plate. e
The tumbler E is preferably in the form of a flat metal stamping having parallel edges c, e', the latter terminating in a shoulder e2. Formed along one edge of the tumbler' is a number of detents e3, e* and e5. The detent e3 is adapted to receive the bit of a key F and the detents e* and e5 are adapted to engage the struck-up lip Z5 of the draw-bolt to ook the tumbler therewith so that both the drawbolt and the tumbler will be movable as a unit. A flat leaf spring e is secured in a kerf e" in the tumbler and said spring is adapted to bear against the left hand flange d so as to maintain the tumbler in spring pressed engagement with the lip Z5- From the assembly of the lock parts as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, it will be apparent that the draw-bolt D in its assembled relation on the cover plate incloses the tumbler E, the tumbler spring c6 and the draw-bolt spring d and hence constitutes a housing for said elements. i
In the operation of the lock the spring UZ normally holds the drawbolt projected upwardly through the opening a in the lip a', in which position it is adapted to latch the hasp B. When the tumbler is in the full line position shown in Fig. 4 the draw-bolt may be retracted or moved downwardly against the tension of the spring d, in which movement it carries with it the tumbler E as.
above explained. Vhen the key F is turned to move the tumbler to the dotted line position, further movement of the tumbler in said direction is arrested by its engagement with the lip a on the cover plate and in view of the engagement of the lip Z5 in the detent e5 the draw-bolt will then be prevented from moving downwardly and willbe locked in latching position.
From the foregoing description it will be appreciated that I have provided a lock which is extremely simple yet sturdy in construe tion, one which is of relativel thin dimensions, and one which in view o the few num ber of elements readily lends itself to machine assembly.
While I have shown but a single embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that I do not Wish to be limited to the details of construction disclosed, since modifications thereof may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Vhat I claim is:
l. A lock comprising a cover plate, a key operable elongated tumbler slidable against the back of the cover plate, and a spring pressed draw-bolt movable over the back of the cover plate enclosing the tumbler, said draw-bolthaving longitudinal flanges, the edges of which engage the back of the cover plate and struck up lips which project toward the cover plate spaced from one of the flanges, said struck-up lips and flange serving to guide the tumbler in its movements when operated by a key.
2. A lock according to claim l having spring means disposed between the guiding flange and theV tumbler urging the latter against one of the struck-up lips.
A lock comprising a cover plate, a tum bler slidable against the back of the cover plate, a spring pressed draw-bolt having longitudinal flanges the edges of which slidably engage the back of the cover plate, struck-up lips on the draw-bolt projecting toward the cover plate and spaced from one of the flanges and providing therewith guiding means for the tumbler, a spring between the guiding flange and the tumbler urging the latter against one of the struck-up lips, said drawbolt enclosing the tumbler, the tumbler spring, and the draw-bolt spring, and providing with the back of the cover plate a housing for said elements.
